Default Lamborghini previews new Huracán Super Trofeo

The new Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo ready for shakedown

Sant'Agata Bolognese, 15 July 2014. The new Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo today on track for its first shakedown on the "Piero Taruffi" Vallelunga (ITA) circuit.

Chief Test Driver of Automobili Lamborghini Research and Development Department, Giorgio Sanna, will start the delicate task of fine-tuning the new Super Trofeo race car, along with the two official Lamborghini Squadra Corse test drivers Adrian Zaugg and Fabio Babini, and supported by drivers from the Young Drivers Program.

From 2015, Lamborghini's newest 'raging bull' super sports car, the Huracán, will be the car raced in all of the three Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series (Europe, Asia and North America). Next season's Series will feature both the Gallardo and the Huracán which will share the grid but will race in different classes.

"The first shakedown is always a very special moment. I've followed the development phase step by step in Sant'Agata Bolognese, and we are all enthusiastic about this very important moment. We have full confidence in both Zaugg and Babini, as well as in the young drivers who will contribute to refining the new car. The new Huracán Super Trofeo will ensure Lamborghini a key role in International motor sport," commented Giorgio Sanna.

Default Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo shows its metal [video]

Debuts tomorrow

Instagram user carspotterjeroen has managed to capture on camera the Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 Super Trofeo.

Scheduled to be officially revealed tomorrow, the track-only Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo has lost the cool army camouflage seen in teasers but now we get the chance to look at its aggressive body sporting a matte light grey paint with red accents seen on the carbon fiber front splitter, side skirts and menacing rear diffuser.

Other ingredients on the menu include vented front fenders, huge fixed rear wing and black wheels wrapped around in Pirelli P Zero racing slicks. In previous teasers we saw it will feature a stripped out interior cabin boasting a roll cage with a race-spec steering wheel and a digital display.

The Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo will be revealed on August 15 at The Quail in Monterey, CA and is set to participate in next year's Blancpain Super Trofeo where it will compete separately from the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo.

Developed in collaboration with Dallara

Lamborghini has unveiled the Huracan LP 620-2 Super Trofeo at this year’s edition of "The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering."

The track-only Huracan was developed in collaboration with Dallara Engineering with direct input from Gian Paolo Dallara who also was involved in Miura's development. The vehicle has received a more aerodynamic wide body featuring adjustable front air intakes, front & rear diffusers as well as a rear wing featuring no less than ten positions. Pirelli was in charge of creating a special set of tires designed specifically for the Huracan Super Trofeo.

Compared to the road going car, the naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine delivers an extra 10 PS (7.3 kW) at 620 PS (456 kW) sent to the rear axle. Thanks to a number of weight saving measures, Lamborghini was able to shave off 151 kg (332 lbs) so the Huracan Super Trofeo now tips the scales at 1,271 kg (2,800 lbs) and has a weight/power ratio of 4.5 lbs/PS.

The vehicle will take part in next year's Blancpain Super Trofeo series but it will not compete in the same class as its predecessor, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo.

Features an upgraded engine and rear-wheel drive

Lamborghini has taken the wraps off the new Huracan LP 620-2 Super Trofeo.

Set to debut at the Quail Motorsports Gathering later today, the Super Trofeo is a GT3 racer that a front slitter, canards and revised skid skirts. The model also has ventilated front fenders, a rear wing, a massive diffuser and a center-mounted dual exhaust system.

Detailed specifications are still pending but Autocar is reporting the model is 250 kg (551 lbs) lighter than the standard Huracan and features an upgraded 5.2-liter V10 engine that produces 611 bhp (455 kW) - a modest increase of 9 bhp (6 kW). As the name suggest, power is sent exclusively to the rear-wheels.

Press Release

Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo makes Global Debut at 'The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering'

Carmel, California 15th August 2014 – Automobili Lamborghini unveiled its next-generation motorsports machine: the new Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo. The car will debut in all three (Europe, Asia and North America) of the brand's one-make 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series.

The Huracán Super Trofeo marks a new benchmark for the race series. "The Huracán Super Trofeo is an all-new car built from scratch with a clear racing concept," said Maurizio Reggiani, Board Member and Director of Research and Development for Automobili Lamborghini. "We believe the car will be as fun for fans to watch as it will be rewarding for our racers to drive."

The redesigned Huracán Super Trofeo was developed in collaboration with Dallara Engineering, with direct involvement by founder Giampaolo Dallara. Dallara's history with Lamborghini dates back to 1963 when he worked as a Lamborghini engineer and later led the development of the legendary Miura.

The Huracán Super Trofeo adopts the direct-injected V10 engine from the road car, delivering 620 horsepower in race trim, and a rear-drive set-up meant to accelerate the series racers' transition into GT racing. The vehicle weighs an ultra-light 2,800 lbs, attributed to the hybrid carbon fiber/aluminum chassis and strict motorsports weight reduction. The weight/power ratio is 4.5 lbs/hp.

The aerodynamics provide better efficiency, traction and downforce using a ten-position rear wing, front and rear diffusers as well as adjustable front air intakes. The Huracán Super Trofeo will be exclusively-equipped with Pirelli tires engineered specifically for this application.

Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo - North America – Upcoming Dates: August 22-24 (Virginia International Park, Alton, VA); October 1-4 (Road Atlanta, Atlanta, GA); and November 20-21 (Sepang, Malaysia, World Finals)

Also at The Quail, Lamborghini presented its Aventador LP 700-4 in a new version by Ad Personam. The vehicle, which will be shown as well at Concorso Italiano and the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, highlighting Lamborghini's "made-to-order" program.

Clients of Ad Personam-equipped cars avail themselves of personalized materials, custom colors and exclusive trim for exterior and interior fitment. The display model highlighted semi-aniline leather, Alcantara, Forged Composite, a Lamborghini patented carbon-fiber material, to custom stitching and beyond. The program caters to those who love to engage with their dream car – even before they take delivery.

Default Lamborghini Huracan Spyder coming next year, RWD version also planned – report

Company boss says "we need lots of derivatives"

Lamborghini’s boss Stephan Winkelmann has revealed the company could soon offer several new variants of the Huracan.

Speaking to Autocar during last weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours event, he said “We need lots of derivatives. Customers expect it and we always need something new to talk about”.

Most likely, first will be a Spyder version, which is expected sometime next year. No details about this car are available yet, but it will probably be nothing more than an open-top version of the standard Huracan with no major design changes.

Next will be a rear-wheel-drive modification. As Winkelmann explains, “we did it with the Gallardo so it might be an option. We are a four-wheel-drive super-sports car (producer) but why should we not do a rear-drive option”.

Autocar says a lighter and more extreme Huracan is also in the cards and could wear the Superleggera moniker.

It's our first chance to test Lamborghini's new 602bhp, V10-engined successor to the Gallardo on UK roads. Is the reputedly more user-friendly Huracan a proper Lamborghini? Steve Sutcliffe finds out.

Default Lamborghini's Huracan quicker than its costlier Aventador?

Car and Driver threw a leg over the Lamborghini Huracán and rode it hard all around the 16-turn Circuito Internationale Nardò, next to the banked oval that's brought us many a top-speed video. On the way to discovering the bull calf sweetly eclipses the Gallardo it replaces, CD also discovered that – comparing their own tests – it is faster from zero to 60 miles per hour than its paterfamilias, the Aventador.

Now, we should all know that 0-60 tests are an imprecise discipline, but CD's Eric Tingwall torched the sprint in the Huracán in 2.5 seconds – yes, faster than a whole lot of other very expensive super-coupes. In the magazine's last instrumented test of the Aventador Aaron Robinson ran 3.0 seconds, and for more Aventador perspective we can compare Motor Trend's 2.8 seconds, also scored at Nardo, Road & Track at 2.7 seconds and Lamborghini's estimated 0-62 mph time of 2.9 seconds. Any way you chop that up, 2.5 seconds beats it. A bit of a shock, then: Lamborghini lists the Huracán's 0-62 mph time as 3.2 seconds.

We'll get a more precise idea of the discrepancy when more tests come online, but for the moment - and in this one respect - we've got the $241,945, 602-horsepower Huracán showing its angry backside to the $397,500, 691-hp Aventador. Even if it remains true, though, we're not sure it matters; in a figurative case of Predator versus Alien, it's arguable that the only way to be wrong is not to own one.

Even if that were the case, I'm sure the Aventador and it's successor will reach 800hp soonish. Some cars like the Z06, GT-R, Viper, Hellcat(s) make the car rest on it's laurels (badge) to carry it through. One might say the Huracan/Aventador is similar to the Cayman/911 in that the former is so good it's hard to make a case for the latter. Also with cars like the LaFerrari, 918 and P1 I don't think it's much longer until they make the move at least for their flagship supercar to go electric like the aforementioned (unless they go the hyper exclusive route like Pagani)

fitting wheels

Why's the title say fastest though? They didn't do anything to the powertrain

Default Lamborghini Huracan gets black chrome vinyl wrap

Click here to view more photos

Features black wheels

Munich-based Print Tech has applied a matte chrome vinyl wrap onto a Lamborghini Huracan.

So far we have seen the Lamborghini Huracan in many official colors including Arancio Borealis, Bianco Monocerus, Giallo Midas, Rosso Red, Verde Mantis and Nero Noctis and now the Gallardo's successor has been wrapped around in a matte chrome vinyl wrap, thus covering the original black paint.

Fortunately the matte look doesn't make it as flashy as cars featuring regular chrome wraps and on this Huracan the special look applied by Print Tech is matched with black aero parts and 20-inch Mimas forged wheels making the car even more of an eye-catcher than before.

Changes are limited to these visual tweaks as the Huracan seen here is equipped with the standard naturally aspirated V10 5.2-liter rated at 610 HP (448 kW) and 413 lb-ft (560 Nm) of torque.
