After yesterday’s leaked photos, Mercedes-AMG has officially unveiled the all-new C 63, which is available in two body styles and two power levels with up to 510PS (503hp).

The new C63 sources the 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine from the Mercedes AMG GT and gets it in two states of tune – 476PS (470hp) and 650Nm (479lb-ft) for the C 63 and 510PS (503hp) and 700Nm (516lb-ft) for the C 63 S.

In sedan form, the C 63 S sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.0 seconds, while the less powerful C 63 does it in 4.1 seconds. Both figures are improvements of 0.4 seconds compared to the previous generation’s corresponding models. Acceleration figures for the new estate are 0.1 seconds slower than the sedan, while top speed is electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph).

The engine is mated to the AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed sport transmission with paddle shifters that has been updated from the previous model, delivering shorter shift times.

Despite the performance stats, Mercedes says the C 63 averages 8.2 l/100 km (28.7 mpg US) and emits 192 g/km CO2, making it the most fuel-efficient eight-cylinder car in the high-performance segment. Compared to the previous model, the new C 63 is around 32 percent more fuel-efficient, despite delivering even more performance. Power-to-weight ratios of 3.4 kg/hp (C 63 S) and 3.6 kg/hp (C 63) also put the new C 63 at the head of the rankings.

Besides technical and styling modifications, the new model also receives a new nomenclature, going from C 63 AMG to C 63. Standard equipment includes the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, the mechanical rear locking differential and the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs.

Styling-wise, the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 adopts redesigned bumpers with larger air intakes and a splitter and the front and two chrome-plated twin end pipes integrated into a diffuser at the rear, 14mm (0.5in) wider aluminum wings with V8 Biturbo lettering, twin-blade radiator grille with AMG lettering and other details. C 63 S models get additional cosmetic tweaks, but overall, the styling package for both the C 63 and C 63 AMG manages to combine aggressiveness with elegance.

The new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S in sedan form will be the first to arrive in European dealerships in February 2015, while the C 63 and the C 63 S Wagons will follow in April 2015. An exclusive “Edition 1” will be available from market launch.

Default Review Finds Mercedes C-Class' Renault-Sourced Diesel Underpowered


The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class has a downsized diesel engine as its base oil burning option. It’s called the C200 BlueTEC, but the unit itself actually only displaces 1.6-liters – it’s based on the Renault DCi 130 that’s been longitudinally mounted.

While still fairly new and not all that common, it’s known to be a flexible, strong unit that has the feel and punch of a 2.0-liter. However, it seems that when powering the C-Class, it’s not strong enough, at least not if you base your opinion on this WhatCar review.

The car in question is a fairly low-spec one, so it gets a manual (six-speed) gearbox. Unlike Mercedes of old, though, the shifter action is reportedly very snappy and positive, so it’s not a chore to use (like it is for some on the rival BMW 3-Series). It probably needs to be, as the engine needs to be kept within its power band in order for progress to be linear and lag-free.

After the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and its more powerful sibling, the C63s AMG, here are the first photos of the special launch model dubbed Edition 1.

For some twisted reason, Mercedes has shared photos and preliminary details on its consumer site in Germany and nowhere else, but it will have to do for now and until the big public reveal in Paris.

"Edition 1" is a name that Benz gives to the first special series of a new model, usually available in limited quantities for the first year.

It’s not clear from the text if the Edition 1 is available only on the pictured 510PS (503hp) C63s AMG or if buyers can also order it on the base 476PS (470hp) C63 AMG. We'll remind you that both models get a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 linked to a seven-speed sports transmission driving the rear wheels.

On the outside, what you get with the cosmetics-only Edition 1 is graphite grey stripes on the body, red accents on the front grille, the 19-inch alloy wheels and mirror, a gloss black front lip spoiler, and the Night package with gloss black exterior trims and chrome tailpipes.

Interior upgrades include a flat bottom steering in Alcantara with silver accents and a red 12 o'clock -marking, AMG Performance seats, carbon fiber trim elements, Designo red belts, special floor mats and full upholstery in black nappa leather with diamond pattern and red contrast stitching.

C63 AMG range arriving next week in Paris

Following yesterday's accidental and brief reveal, Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the all-new C63 AMG which will premiere next week at the Paris Motor Show.

Both the sedan and estate will be offered in C63 AMG and C63 AMG S flavors with power coming from a newly developed V8 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine. In the C63 AMG it develops 476 HP (350 kW) between 5,500 rpm and 6,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) available in the 1,750 rpm and 4,500 rpm range. Upgrade to the C63 AMG S and you get 510 HP (375 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) in the same rpm ranges.

In terms of performance, the C63 AMG Sedan needs 4.1 seconds until 62 mph (100 km/h) whereas the Estate is 0.1s slower. The C63 AMG S Sedan covers the run in 4 seconds compared to its wagon sibling which does it in 4.1 seconds. A 155 mph (250 km/h) electronic limiter will be installed in all four versions.

Power is channeled to the wheels through an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission which promises to be faster than before, especially in manual and Sport+ modes where it brings an improved response via hardware and software optimization. Mercedes-Benz says that even the aluminum shift paddles on the steering wheel are quicker than before.

The C63 AMG comes with a rear mechanical locking differential whereas the C63 AMG S is equipped with an electronic rear locking differential while an optional performance exhaust system will be available for both versions. The C63 AMG S also has dynamic engine mounts sourced from the AMG GT that can adapt their stiffness in fractions of a second depending on the driving conditions and style.

18-inch ten-spoke alloy wheels with a titanium grey finish are installed on the C63 AMG whereas the C63 AMG S has larger 19-inch rims featuring a five twin-spoke design and a titanium grey polished look. The C63 AMG S can also be had with optional ceramic composite brakes and sport tires.

Mercedes-Benz will be offering an "Edition 1" of both variants that will be available with the following exterior paints: polar white, palladium silver metallic, iridium silver metallic, designo diamond white bright, obsidian black metallic and the AMG-only designo iridium silver magno. The Edition 1 gets 19-inch cross-spoke alloys and a night package bringing several elements in high-gloss black.

The C63 AMG / C63 AMG S Edition 1 will also be distinguished by red accents on the wing mirrors and radiator grille, black chromed exhaust pipes, matte graphite grey sport stripes above the sill cladding along with other similar enhancements on the inside.

All four flavors of the C63 AMG will be shown starting October 2 at the Paris Motor Show where Mercedes-Benz will also bring the AMG GT.

So a few of the new C-class cars on the street and they look very plain IMO.
AWD sits really high compared to last generation that had almost no fender/wheel gap.

Lexus IS is by far the best looking car in this segment.
3series with Msport looks great as well.

I agree Even after owning my 3IS Fsport for a little more than a year now I can't help but still get all ummmmmm tingly when I approach my car and hop into it !! Living close by a MB dealer I'm starting to see the new W205 C Class and so far I've seen mostly base cars without the Sports Package and larger wheels which do look soooooo plain IMHO !?

I find this to be an issue with a lot of MB designs without the sport trim. For instance, the base E Class with no sport trim looks terribly cheap and plain IMHO, even the base S Class with the base wheels looks a little plain I think.

Since most of them running around are base models...makes them look plain.
