Next Mercedes-Benz C-Class getting worked out at the 'Ring

Not too much is certifiably known about the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, but putting together various snippets presents a sedan that will be moving the bar in various directions. Caught at the Nürburgring under comprehensive camo, it's said the styling underneath will take plenty of sculpting cues from the aggressively styled CLS, suggested here by the camo grille covering.

Under the hood, powerplants are expected to stick with the turbocharged four-cylinder currently available and expand into a gasoline hybrid model, with rumors of a diesel or even a diesel hybrid, and even three-cylinder and four-cylinder engines with displacement-on-demand technology.

In addition to the sedan bodystyle, a coupe, convertible and wagon are coming, but the latter might not come to the U.S.

Too soon for an all-new model. This has to be just a restyling effort to make it look the part of their new design theme.

^^ Not likely, they just redesigned the entire interior dash last year for a refresh and also redid the front headlights, engine, front and rear bumpers, and rear lights. I cant see them putting any more money into another mid cycle refresh.

I believe what they mean is a 2015 model coming out in 2014. The current W204 came out in 2007 as a 2008 model.

Autocar reveals 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class details

The clouds around the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class are still as thick as those on a morning in Borneo, but Autocar has worked up a passel of details on the Mercedes that will no longer be an entry-level offering when it arrives. With the CLA sliding into the Mercedes starter-kit slot, the C-Class will, according to insiders, "discard the idea that the C-class is a car bought by your grandfather" and "meet the expectations of a younger generation of buyers, both visually and technically."

That means throwing out almost everything that we're used to with the current car. Looks-wise the 2014 sedan is expected to be "far more dramatic" and more sporty. It will also be larger; the CLA is predicted to be a couple of inches longer than the current C-Class, so the coming C-Class will grow by nearly four inches on its MRA platform, with three inches of that growth between the wheels. If accurate, the new length would make it longer than the BMW 3 Series and about the same as the Audi A4. Track and overall width likewise expand, the result being the cabin will provide more room in every direction. Still, the new architecture should make it lighter than the current car.

Standard engines will come in the familiar mix of four-cylinders and V6s in gas and diesel forms, spanning the chart from 120 to 330 horsepower to and all equipped with stop/start tech and brake energy recuperation. Top of the line will be the AMG version with the new twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8, expected to be available in every iteration of the C-Class: sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. They will be mounted lower and further rearward than at present, and there are rumors of a plug-in hybrid with an 18-mile all-electric range. Those powerplants will be worked through a six-speed manual or updated seven-speed automatic.

The hard-edged side is predicted to get a boost from a switch to a double-wishbone suspension in front and an "extensively redesigned" multi-link setup in back, with all models getting adaptive damping. Outside of spy shots, we don't think we'll see it until the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

So the 6.2L goes away. It is one of the meanest sounding V8's I've heard. First time I heard it was from a stop light, guy flew like a bat from hell.

The 6.2 is a hell of an engine

I was at an AMG event and they had a C63 up on a Dyno type stand and they were letting anyone interested get in and rev / shift and GOD the noise was something else man!!!

I am however looking fowrard to the 4.0 Twin Turbo and it's potential but fear the sound won't be anywhere near close to the 6.2

They did a good job of tuning the AMG 5.5L V8 twin turbo motor they're using now. Nothing will ever sound as good as the 6.2L but I have confidence they can get close. Interested to see this new, expressive C-class.

Revamped 2014 Mercedes C-Class looks dapper in camo

With the all-new CLA-Class getting ready to stake its claim as the entry-level Mercedes-Benz sedan, the next-generation C-Class will have a little room to expand its lineup and move up market. And nothing says up market more than the S-Class. Comparing these new spy shots of the 2014 C-Class to recent shots of the next-gen S-Class, we can see that newest version of Mercedes' top-selling model (in the US) will have styling that borrows heavily from the automaker's redesigned flagship.

There is far less camouflage covering the new sedan than the last time we saw it, allowing us to see how the car is shaping up. Up front, we can expect the familiar grille and headlight treatment we've seen on other recent Mercedes introductions, and it also looks like it will also get an aggressively styled front fascia similar to what we saw on the new E-Class models. The rear end will get vertical taillights and integrated exhaust finishers.

The sedan version of the new C-Class is expected to launch first followed shortly by the wagon and then eventually a coupe and a new convertible model as well, but it isn't clear if all the different variations will be built at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa, AL.

Technology wise it is looking very impressive especially if MB can reach their weight reduction target of 300 lbs. That means a base model C class will weight in at only 3300 lbs.
