Default Scoop: New Mercedes C-Class Coupe Resembles a Mini S-Class Coupe

Click here to view more photos

Being that the new C-Class sedan shows a clear family resemblance to the S-class saloon, it's no surprise that the two-door version apes the styling of the S-Class Coupe.

Even the C-Class Coupe's rear end is expected to have a similar feel, despite the fact that you cannot see it here, as this prototype was fitted with a fake, BMW 6-Series E63-style rump to keep it safe from prying eyes.

Compared to the new C-Class Sedan, codenamed W205, only the fascia appears to be unaffected, as the rest of the body looks unique, with Mercedes even moving the exterior mirrors to the doors, which themselves, are frameless.

We haven't captured the interior yet, but in these cases, the norm is for manufacturers to share the dashboard, instrument binnacle and center console with the parent model.

As per the other C-Class body styles, the Coupe's engine lineup will be similar to the sedan, so expect turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel (in certain markets) units, along with a 362hp turbocharged V6 petrol for the C450 AMG and a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 for the flagship C63 AMG (470hp / 476PS) and C63 AMG S (503hp / 510PS) models.

We should see the new C-Class Coupe later this year, possibly at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Mercedes' C-Class plans also include a soft-top Convertible version.

Default Chris Harris Drives The AMG C63 S, Says It's All About Torque

Objectively, there isn't anything bad you can say about the Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 S. Whether you're Chris Harris or Jeremy Clarkson or anybody who is able to appreciate a fast AMG saloon, this thing will blow your mind.

We're talking about a 4.0 liter twin turbo V8, with an output of 510 HP and 700 Nm of torque. In comparison, the BMW M3 only has 550 Nm, while the RS4 Avant makes due with 430 Nm. So yes, what we have here is a torque monster, which is exactly what Harris is going on about in his review.

He came away quite impressed with the fact that no matter what gear you're in, the torque is just there at all times. Of course, this car isn't just about torque and burning rubber. It can hit 62 mph in just 4.0 seconds and it does it while sounding amazing. Which is indeed another advantage it has over the M3.

Another excellent aspect of the C63 S is it's road demeanor. Harris talks about how composed it is as a road car thanks to its adaptive dampers and electronic differential.

He does make a very interesting point when he talks about the looks of the car as being rather conservative compared to the M3. In a way he's right. The old gen C63 AMG was a bit more visually outspoken, while this is more elegant.

Does this mean that the BMW M3 is a better looking car than the C63 S? Hard to say. It's certainly not faster in a straight line.

Default Mercedes introduces the details of the C450 AMG 4Matic

Mercedes-Benz C 450 AMG 4MATIC: Second AMG sports model with V6 power

Driving Performance – the AMG brand claim and typical character traits can now be experienced by an even broader target group. The new C 450 AMG 4MATIC expands the product range of the sports car and performance brand within Mercedes-Benz with another new AMG sports model. As an attractive entry into the world of AMG, the C 450 AMG 4MATIC combines a 270 kW (367 hp) 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine with a permanent Performance all-wheel-drive system and sophisticated suspension technology adopted from the Mercedes-AMG C 63. This all results in fascinating driving performance and the hallmark emotional expressiveness of the brand. The new AMG sports model is available as a Saloon and an Estate model, and makes the extensive product line-up within the C-Class range even more attractive.

Stuttgart, Feb 24, 2015 -- The new AMG sports models boast impressive product features. Even at first glance, the characteristic AMG body styling leaves no doubt that this model is part of the Mercedes-AMG model family. Another indication of the new model strategy is found in the form of a special AMG badge on the front wings. From an engineering standpoint, the AMG sports models deliver perfectly on the visual promise of a sporty character, with a powerful engine, the standard-fit AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive system with rear-biased torque split, and sophisticated suspension solutions.

In addition to the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG Coupé, the C 450 AMG 4MATIC represents the second stage of the new model initiative. Further emotionally inspiring AMG sports models will follow.

Authentic driving dynamics thanks to hallmark AMG DNA
The new C 450 AMG 4MATIC is based on the most powerful production model of the C-Class, the C 400 4MATIC. The engineers have revised many technical features of the new AMG sports model. Their objective: a high level of authentic driving dynamics that uses the Mercedes-AMG C 63 for reference. To this end, a host of suspension components were adopted from the top-of-the-line V8 model. The driver also feels the DNA of the C 63 in the application of the engine and transmission management. Agility and sportiness dominate the intense driving experience in the C 450 AMG 4MATIC every mile of the way.

The new 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine is part of the BlueDIRECT engine family from Mercedes-Benz. Technical advances including a modified boost pressure allowed the AMG engineers to increase the engine's power output and torque. With 270 kW (367 hp) and 520 Newton metres the V6 engine sets new standards in its segment – as demonstrated by its impressive performance: acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds (Estate: 5.0 seconds) underscores the sporty temperament of the C 450 AMG 4MATIC. With combined fuel consumption of 7.6 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions of 178 grams per kilometre (Estate: 7.7 litres and 180 g CO2 per km) the new top-of-the-line V6 model defines an absolute top position in the competitive environment.

High-tech for dynamism and efficiency
The cutting-edge six-cylinder has a bore/stroke ratio of 88.0 x 82.1 millimetres, and develops its peak torque between 2000 and 4000 rpm. High output and a powerful torque curve combined with high efficiency and the lowest emissions in this class – sheer high-tech provides the basis for the exhilarating characteristics of the V6 biturbo engine: The V6 member of the BlueDIRECT engine family shares many technologies with the new V8 biturbo. The high volumetric efficiency is ensured by the turbocharger package configured to the engine and the piezo injection technology.

Serene or dynamic: the choice is yours
Thanks to hefty torque, the new AMG sports model is agile, direct and dynamic. With the help of various AMG-specific drive programmes the driver is able to tailor the character of the C 450 AMG 4MATIC to his or her personal preferences: The modes "Eco", "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport +", plus "Individual" are available. The drive modes adjust the suspension, steering and powertrain as desired, and are selected conveniently with the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT switch to the left of the touchpad. Below it are the buttons for the 3-stage Ride Control sports suspension and ESP®. The button for the ECO start/stop function is located on the right.

Especially the "Sport+" mode delivers impressive hallmark AMG dynamics and enhances the emotional appeal: partial cylinder suppression during gear changes by means of a momentary and precisely defined retardation of ignition and injection under full throttle speeds up the gear changes, and is also audible to the driver. The emotional double-declutching functions during downshifts and the "exhaust rumbling" in overrun mode provide the fitting accompaniment. The throaty engine sound – a hallmark AMG experience – also plays a crucial role in the most powerful V6 model: to this end, the engineers have developed a new sports exhaust system with lower back-pressure and reduced weight.

The driving sensation is also characterised by the set-up of the accelerator pedal: The more the driver changes the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT settings from "ECO" towards "Sport+", the more spontaneous and dynamic is the throttle response of the V6 biturbo engine. The driver can also experience authentic and emotional dynamics during engine start if desired: when the twin-turbo V6 engine is started in the "Sport+" drive programme, the engine speed quickly jumps to 2000 rpm for a moment before immediately settling back down to idle speed. Whether the driver wants to experience the engine start accompanied by a sporty or a more subdued sound depends on the most recently activated drive programme – this remains stored for four hours.

The "Eco" programme integrates an ECO start/stop function and a sailing function to reduce fuel consumption: when the driver releases the accelerator in the speed range between 60 and 160 km/h, the clutch of the transmission is disengaged and the engine is decoupled from the powertrain. The electronics reduce the engine speed to idle level, and the driving resistance is reduced by the compression and frictional forces of the engine in overrun mode.

7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission with short response times
The 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission responds with superior composure or maximum spontaneity depending on the driver's preference and selected transmission mode. "Sport+" mode delivers thrillingly short response times: the driver's shift commands are implemented at lightning speed – the powertrain responds spontaneously and precisely. The development engineers have also taken advantage of numerous hardware and software solutions of the C 63 in this regard. The 'M' button on the centre console allows savouring the high pulling power across the entire rev range. In manual transmission mode the 7G-TRONIC PLUS no longer shifts to the next-highest gear on its own, even when prompted by kick-down or upon reaching the redline speed. The driver alone makes the decisions about shifting via the steering-wheel paddle shifters.

The momentary 'M' mode offers another feature: it combines the performance of manual gear changes with automatic upshifts and downshifts. The driver has the option to shift up or down at any time with the paddle shifters. If no gear change is requested, the transmission independently reverts to the automatic shift mode after a defined period of time has passed.

The 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission features a dual-turbine torsional damper with a speed-sensitive centrifugal pendulum, which minimises vibrations and enhances the occupants' perceived comfort.

AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with special axles and adjustable dampers
Agility and sportiness: in the new C 450 AMG 4MATIC the driver can experience every mile of the way why AMG has been successful in motor racing as the sports car and performance brand of Mercedes-Benz for more than four decades. The basis for this intense experience is the combination of permanent Performance all-wheel-drive system and the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension. The 3-stage damper adjustment borrows features from the top-of-the-line V8 model Mercedes-AMG C 63, and combines high agility with superior everyday practicality.

The highlight of the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension is the combination of independently developed axle components with high aluminium content and electronically controlled shock absorbers with 3-stage adjustment range. The driver of the C 450 AMG 4MATIC can select a tailor-made suspension set-up using the transmission modes or at the push of a button. The spectrum ranges from balanced long-distance comfort to maximum sportiness.

The technical features of the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension are characterised by components with sophisticated design: the four-link front axle is fitted with special steering knuckles and load-bearing joints; all components have been optimised in terms of rigidity. A more negative camber on the front axle and on the multi-link rear axle enhances lateral dynamics. Stiffening of the body shell improves steering behaviour, feedback during cornering, and tyre noise. The elastokinematics of both axles have been designed to be more rigid in general. All these measures improve the precision and agility, and boost the dynamics. In addition, the driver benefits from reduced body roll, higher lateral acceleration, better traction, and strong neutral handling at the limit. In short: the C 450 AMG 4MATIC is a very agile sports model on the one hand, while optimised pull rods and front-axle carrier mounts ensure the hallmark Mercedes long-distance comfort on the other.

Optimum traction thanks to AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive
The all-wheel drive system familiar from a number of AMG high-performance cars is also used on the C 450 AMG 4MATIC. The perfect grip during acceleration effectively prevents losses caused by slip. For thrilling driving dynamics 33 percent of the engine power is allocated to the front axle and 67 percent to the rear axle. The rear-biased torque split results in higher agility around the vehicle's vertical axis. Another major factor here is the sportier set-up of the ESP® with Curve Dynamic Assist. The tangible effects for sporty drivers are lateral dynamics and cornering performance increased to an above-average level.

Steering and braking system support a dynamic driving style
The electromechanical, speed-sensitive sports steering assists in finding the ideal line and enjoying a dynamic driving style. The agile handling benefits from the direct and constant AMG-specific steering ratio including optimised tuning and response. The steering forces are adapted electronically to the given vehicle speed in optimal fashion. In addition, the optimal steering characteristics are selected depending on the activated drive programme – in the "Sport" and "Sport Plus" modes to deliver a sporty steering feel for a dynamic driving style on twisty roads or to deliver a comfortable steering feel in the "Eco" or "Comfort" modes. The "Individual" programme offers an additional choice. For example, it allows combining sporty firm steering characteristics with a comfortable suspension set-up – or vice-versa.

The sports braking system of the C 450 AMG 4MATIC impresses with fade-free and effective stopping power. Standard equipment includes vented brake discs all-round measuring 360 millimetres in diameter at the front and 320 millimetres at the rear, as well as grey brake callipers with "Mercedes-Benz" lettering at the front.

Design features bear the unmistakable imprint of AMG
The fascination of motor racing in everyday life – the C 450 AMG 4MATIC incorporates this combination visually as well: The second AMG sports model is based on the AMG Line equipment package, and immediately signifies that it is part of the unique AMG family. Defining design elements are the AMG body styling, the light-alloy wheels and the special AMG badge on the front wings. They underscore the progressive nature and performance of the brand. The engine cover with red aluminium insert likewise visualises the strengths of the new twin-turbo six-cylinder engine.

The AMG body styling includes the front apron with sporty, distinctive air intakes, diamond meshes and silver chrome trim, as well as the rear apron with matt iridium silver diffuser insert. The simulated air vents on the sides are not only reminiscent of the top C 63 V8 model, they also form defined spoiler lips to improve the Cd figure. Two twin exhaust tailpipes in a special design accentuate the sporty look.

The Saloon features a new, expressive spoiler lip on the boot lid, the Estate a roof spoiler. Both additionally improve road adhesion at the rear axle. The model badges "C 450" (left) and "4MATIC" (right) are affixed to the boot lid or tailgate.

Silver chrome and high-gloss black exterior elements lend the C 450 AMG 4MATIC a sporty and expressive character. The radiator grille sports a high-gloss black louvre and chrome inserts. The diamond grille adorned with chrome pins adds special flair. Other highlights include the exterior mirror housings, waistline trim strips and window surrounds in high-gloss black.

Customers are also able to order the optional Night package: this includes dark-tinted thermal insulation glass from the B-pillars to the rear, a trim element in the front apron, the diffuser-look insert at the rear in high-gloss black and two twin exhaust tailpipes in black chrome.

5-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in black with a high-sheen finish round off the design perfectly. Size 225/45 R 18 tyres on 7.5 x 18 light-alloy wheels are fitted at the front, while the rear axle comes with 245/40 R 18 tyres on 8.5 x 18 wheels. Attractive 48.3-cm (19") light-alloy wheels in various designs are optionally available for even greater individualisation.

Interior with exclusive, sporty flair
The C 450 AMG 4MATIC fascinates with exclusivity and sportiness in the interior as well. The pleasant touch and feel of the materials and the quality of workmanship ensure an impressively classy setting and an emotional passenger experience. A high-quality start-up display welcomes the driver: the central screen in the dashboard displays AMG lettering in the style of the AMG badges on the front wings, which are specific to the sports models.

The ARTICO/DINAMICA upholstery and the instrument panel trimmed with black ARTICO man-made leather convey the sporty ambience in superior fashion. ARTICO is also used on the upper edges of the body, the armrests, the door centre panels and the centre console. Red contrasting topstitching, designo red safety belts and black floor mats with red edging add attractive highlights. The light aluminium trim with a longitudinal grain inset into the dashboard and doors effectively contrasts with the black piano lacquer look of the centre console.

Sports seats with AMG-specific seat upholstery layout and pronounced lateral support offer long-distance comfort and brace the passengers during dynamic cornering. A fitting complement to the sporty handling is the 3-spoke black nappa leather multifunction sports steering wheel with a flattened lower rim section. A loving attention to details such as red contrasting topstitching, the moulded grip area and steering-wheel shift paddles and the steering-wheel trim in silver chrome contribute to the appealing look and feel.

The instrument cluster also features the typical AMG style: this source of information comprises dials in the sporty "chequered flag" design, a 280 km/h speedometer scale, red speedometer needles and a specific typography.

Default Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate gets subtle tuning from VATH

Click here to view more photos

Based on C180 model

German aftermarket specialist VÄTH has released a tuning package for the latest generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate (T-Model) .

The model of choice was a silver C180 which in its standard configuration packs a 156 HP (115 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) punch from its 1.6-liter turbocharged engine but after VÄTH made some upgrades they were able to squeeze 192 HP (141 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. The added oomph costs €2,011.10 (plus €297.50 mounting) and has enabled the tuned C-Class Estate reach a maximum speed of 140 mph (230 km/h), a little bit more than the standard version which tops out at 138 mph (223 km/h).

Aside from infusing more power into Daimler's compact wagon, VÄTH also installed a set of lowering springs (€345,10) which have brought the C-Class Estate closer to the road by 30mm. Stock wheels were replaced with titan color 20-inch alloys available as a set for €6,111.84 and there's also a €1,416.10 (plus €178.50 mounting) carbon fiber front spoiler. The rear end can host a €1,654.10 (plus €238 mounting) carbon diffuser along with a sports exhaust system with quad oval pipes priced at €2,011 and an additional €297.50 for installation.

Is the new 503bhp Mercedes-AMG C63 S a worthy successor to the mighty original? Matt Prior is in Portugal to drive this new super saloon on road and track.

It's here - the new Mercedes-AMG C63 (formerly called the C63 AMG). See why we think it beats the BMW M3 in this video review!

The C 63 is back but crucially this time with a smaller turbo-charged engine. How will it affect the performance and more importantly the sound of this car? We find out.

Default Mercedes Reporter Favors C350e Over 190E 2.5 Evo II But We Don't Agree

In this rather nostalgic and informative clip, you'll see Mercedes-Benz reporter Amanda Stretton drive not only the new C 350 e model, but also the epic, cult classic 190E Evolution II.

Yes, the W201 Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II is down on power when compared to the much newer C 350 e model, and it won't blow you away anymore with its 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) time. But still, we're talking about such an unbelievable car that we actually take offense somebody would end their "review" by saying they'd choose the modern-day car (which isn't even a modern day version of the Evo II - that would be an AMG C 63).

Here's the thing; the Mercedes C 350 e is a PHEV capable of hitting the 100km/h (62mph) mark in 5.9 seconds as well as giving you an all-electric driving range of up to 31 km. Its hybrid power unit has a combined output of 275 HP as well as an impressive 600Nm of peak torque.

Plus its got the 7G-Tronic Plus seven-speed auto box and the air suspension in order to properly sweep you off your feet.

The only thing it doesn't have and never will have, is legendary status. Yes, you can drive it really fast on a track and its extremely economical and comfortable on the road. It's supposed to be that way because it's a 2015 model and it's a Mercedes freakin Benz.

As for the 190 Evo II, believe it or not it first came out at the 1990 Geneva Motor Show, retailing for about $80,000 at the time. It had a 235 HP 4-cylinder 16V engine as well as a radical body kit design featuring an adjustable rear wing, rear window spoiler and 17" wheels.

Only 502 were ever made, and the more pretentious of customers that got the PowerPack option engineered by AMG, also got hotter camshafts, a larger diameter throttle body, more aggressive ignition and fuel management as well as an optimized exhaust system.

They say that these engines could have been upgraded to produce as much as 350 HP, which would have been a sight to behold, even today, trust us.

Now, Amanda did like both cars as the video shows, but concluding that you'd rather have the C 350 e is like saying you'd rather have any modern hybrid with solid performance - which are a dime a dozen. Yes, it's true, the C350 e does indeed outperform a DTM car, BUT, its been almost 25 years since then, which makes it a little pointless. Still true, but pointless nonetheless.

Meanwhile all we can say is...that Evo II looks absolutely gorgeous next to that C-Class.

I dont really know what MB is doing with the C350e. They rope in additional MB tex stitching on the dash and doors with the sport package and dont allow you to get it on the plug in. Those interior elements should be roped into the leather interior instead.

Default C&d c450 amg sport first drive review

In the vast space that exists in the Mercedes-Benz C-class lineup between the entry C300 and the *****-to-the-wall 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63, Mercedes-Benz currently offers the C400. Nice as that car is, though, one jack-of-all-trades model isn’t really suitable for spanning the divide, so Mercedes is bringing in reinforcements. Luxury-leaning, green-minded customers, for example, soon will have the option of the C350e plug-in hybrid. And folks who might otherwise be attracted to the Audi S4 and the BMW 335i xDrive will be mightily tempted by the car here, the 2016 C450 AMG 4MATIC. (Once the C450 arrives, in fact, it will replace the C400 in the lineup.)

As the new kid on the sports-sedan block, the C450 AMG 4MATIC has a lot to prove, and while it may not be a full-on Mercedes-AMG product like the steroidal C63, it contains enough of its big brother’s goodies to earn the AMG badge. It starts with a power boost for Benz’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6, from 329 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque in the C400 to a solid 362 horses and 384 lb-ft in the C450. Torque distribution for the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system is fixed at 33 percent front and 67 percent rear. As with its competitors, the C450 AMG offers multiple drive modes (Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual) that tweak throttle, transmission, suspension, and steering-effort parameters, and the seven-speed automatic is capable of shifting twice as quickly as the similar unit in the C400.

Shovin’ It

Acceleration is forceful, as the power is delivered in a rapid crescendo and with but a whiff of turbo lag. Mercedes conservatively pegs zero to 60 mph at 4.9 seconds—we achieved 4.7 in the C400—and with all four wheels doing the clawing, it stays more glued to the road than the tail-happy, rear-drive C63, especially when rocketing away from tight, bumpy corners at full tilt. As with the C63, Sport and Sport+ downshifts are served up just when you want them with a throttle-blipped exhaust bark once you go for the brakes. All the while, the V-6 sounds incredible, with a lighter, less restrictive exhaust system than the C400 and a delicious crackling pop-pop-pop on overrun that recalls that of the Jaguar F-type V-6. This is a powertrain that encourages you to wring it out. Like, all the time.

Equally impressive is the C450 AMG’s chassis, which received quite a workout on the lumpy, twisting ribbons of asphalt that snake through southern Portugal’s Algarve region. The car rides on a uniquely developed multilink suspension with three-stage electronically adjustable dampers that come straight out of the C63. Whether bombing down smooth, high-speed straights or making quick left-right-left transitions on broken asphalt, the chassis loyally transmits the road’s texture at all four contact patches. Steering response is immediate, with satisfyingly linear buildup of effort and copious feedback tickling the driver’s fingertips. Even on long, winding descents, the brakes (with rotors measuring a robust 14.2 inches up front and 12.5 inches out back) always seemed to have enough power in reserve, with excellent pedal feedback. If there’s a bone to pick, it’s that the stiffest of the three-stage adjustable shock settings can be too brittle.

Almost All the AMG, All the Time

The C450 AMG looks almost exactly like the C63 and has a nearly identical interior, including the must-have optional one-piece racing-style seats. Indeed, from aesthetic and driving-comfort perspectives, at no point did we wish we were in the C63. Plus, as the C450 weighs some 200 pounds less than the C63, it drives smaller and feels nimbler, lending the midlevel car its own charm. One might see it as the spiritual successor to the 2002–2004 C32 AMG, which, when we last tested one, started at $52,120, or roughly where the C450 AMG 4MATIC is likely to fall without considering inflation. And the 349-hp C32 was slower, too.

So the eminently satisfying C450 AMG packs enough performance to be a full-blooded AMG model just a decade ago, and today it offers something like 75 to 80 percent of an Affalterbach special. Which is to say that it’s damn good.

The C450 AMG SPORT seems very promising.

Default Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe to debut in Frankfurt

Will have a “more beautiful design” than the S-Class Coupe

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe is set to make its world debut during the Frankfurt Motor Show this fall.

Until now it was believed the vehicle will be introduced in December, but a new report from Autocar says the car is coming to the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

According to our source, the new two-door model will be even “sleeker” than the S-Class Coupe with a “more beautiful design”, while also being “even better to drive than it looks”, as design chief Gorden Wagener explains. The new Coupe will become the third member of the C-Class family after the sedan and the estate. Following the Coupe debut, Mercedes will also reveal and a convertible version of the model.

Most likely the engine options of the C-Class Coupe will be identical with the standard C-Class, which means a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit with 241 bhp (179 kW) and a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with 329 bhp (245 kW) will be available. The range-topping AMG version will get a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine with no less than 469 bhp (350 kW) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm).

If that's true and it's cheaper, MBZ better build a strong supply!

Default New Mercedes C-Class Estate Review is Predictably Positive

The story here is simple; if you like what the new S-Class-inspired Mercedes C-Class saloonc has to offer, but you need extra space and practicality, then you will want to have a look at the Estate.

It’s recently been tested by CarBuyer and, well, the review’s verdict is really rather predictable. There’s little to differentiate it from the sedan in terms of the way it drives and feels, so it's all about the bigger boot and more rear leg and head room.

The question of whether or not to buy it probably has to do with liking the wagon styling and really needing the extra space in the back. What’s cool is that the parcel shelf can be relocated behind the front seats, then extended in order to separate the rear volume from where the two places up front – could be good for carrying sheep…

true that.

mbz is making it harder for me to choose what car to buy.

but I can't help thinking about german unreliability and high cost of maintenance.

cost of maintenance is comparable to Lexus. If you factor in that Lexus suggest you go in every 5K miles for tire rotations and fluid top ups (and you actually go) then you would be visiting the dealership twice as often as Mercedes's 10K intervals, and the prices come out pretty even. The only thing is that Lexus includes first two maintenance for free.
