SPIED On The STREET! Toyota's FT-1 Concept Joins Its Supra Bredrin — How's It COMPARE To Cars Gone By?
http://www.autospies.com/news/SPIED-...Gone-By-81708/
Our spy on the street, Fred Khaz, was at this weekend's Cars and Coffee in SoCal and, as usual, someone had to bring something extra special.
This time around it was the folks at Toyota who decided to dust off the FT-1 that is likely home in Torrance as the auto show season is decidedly over for the summer.
Now it's time for racing and some R&R.
This is the first time we've seen — outside of auto shows — that Toyota is letting civilians get up close and personal with the all-new concept. When we saw it at Detroit we were blown away. It looks good and it's definitely not "playing it safe," by any measure.
Considering everyone's betting that this is the all-new Supra, it's a pretty big deal for the brand. With no clue as to how much power or what sort of price it would command, it's definitely something to keep an eye on. We know Toyota can build monumental products — just look at the past Supras and LFA — but this time around it really has our interest if the production version boasts the attitude of the FT-1 Concept. That air brake had me when it first rose.
All that said, check out the FT-1 as it sits with its bredrin during yesterday's Cars and Coffee. You think Toyota is trying to tell us something?

Toyota FT-1 Concept Shows Up at Cars and Coffee Irvine
Petrolhead or 'greenhead', living in California is part of every car enthusiasts dream, as the state is home to a vast car culture, both modern and old school. And as a bonus, you can spend each Saturday morning at the Cars and Coffee meeting in Irvine, an event that reunites awesome rides, their owners and everyone else interested in congregating to kick tires and have a cup of joe.
From time to time, you might also get to see something special pulling in the parking lot on Gateway Boulevard. For example, if you didn’t had time to join last week’s meeting, you missed Toyota showing off its FT-1 concept car there.
Pretty unusual for an automaker to take its one-off concept and randomly appear at a cars and coffee meeting, but Toyota did it. The FT-1 arrived in a truck, from which it gently got unloaded on the pavement.
The concept car then rolled a bit through the parking lot, dropping jaws and being followed by a small legion of photographers. Funny enough, a guy came near it at one point and told the driver he’ll trade his car for it.
Well, good luck with that sir, because even if a miracle happens and you get it, it’s pretty much a useless shell made just to preview a future car. The windows appear not to be working, the door shuts with a very unpleasant sound and we also believe the car has no engine.
There’s a lot of background noise from the other cars in the video, but even so, if you put on a set of good headphones, you’ll find the FT-1 is silent as a fish. With those looks, we imagined Toyota placed at least a crappy 2.5-liter four-pot with no mufflers just to impress people.
Well, no. Although the FT-1 has that see-through hood, what you see there is just a plastic molding. The car seems to be motivated by an electric motor if you ask us.
Anyway, what really matters is how the production version will be like, as the FT-1 is believed to inspire the next generation Toyota Supra.
