It's still alive!

FT-1 reappeared at TAS 2016 next to the Gazoo Racing S-FR.

Default Toyota Files Trademark for Supra Name in Europe

Toyota Files Trademark for Supra Name in Europe

Have you ever heard of the Toyota Supra? Apparently, it was a popular model from the company that was discontinued in the US back in the late 1990s.

What’s also not clear is why the return of the Supra is such a big deal.
Seriously? Am I really that old? (Don't answer that)

Actually, though impressive as a pure sports-car, it was not that popular at all, from sales numbers....and it wasn't alone. All of the expensive, high-performance Japanese sports cars of the 90s period (Toyota Supra, Mazda RX-7, Dodge Stealth Turbo, Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4, and Nissan 300X) were pulled from the American market in the latter 90s from low sales, due to the high prices and insurance premiums. What the manufacturers SHOULD have done, IMO, was to offer lower-cost decontented versions (Mitsubishi ad Dodge did, to some extent). But, in the end, they basically decided to keep the high prices and simply pull the vehicles from this market. It's interesting, though, that, just a few years later, Nissan and Mazda DID take that advice and re-introduced lower-cost RX-8 and 350Z versions. But Toyota and the rest of them never did, except for the last-generation MR2 and always-popular Miata, which were in a completely different class altogether.

What’s also not clear is why the return of the Supra is such a big deal. Wake us up when they bring the Paseo back.
I'm pretty sure the article's author was being facetious Yep... last news I independently read also stated that Magna-Steyr will be building the BMW Z4 and Supra once the Mini Clubman they also produce has been phased out of production.

Very cool that this sportscar will be made by the same company that produces the Mercedes G-Wagen series.

Not getting my hopes up, nothing current that Toyota/Lexus offers appeals to me power wise, time will tell if this new "Supra" does in fact get made. When/if I get rid of my MKIV Supra will be getting a R35 GTR.

If they applied for it that means they never had it and I'm sure some one would have snatched it before hand so most likely they are just renewing it.

Wrong as trademarks do expire and have to be renewed so often.

Trademarks do expire and if not renewed, manufacturers lose the right to them, especially if, in the meantime, it had been acquired by another company. Ford lost its trademark to "GT40" and subsequent models, despite building upon the legacy of the original GT40, have been named GT.

Toyota renewed the Supra trademark in the USA 2 years ago, shortly after showing the FT-1 Concept at the Detroit Autoshow.

Renewing a trademark is no indication that the name will be used again; it may merely mean that the manufacturer wants to protect the name so that another some other manufacturer cannot use it.

Can anyone confirm if Toyota re-acquired the "2000GT" trademark?

AMS (German) goes into more detail http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/n...m-8498173.html. They say it'll be like the Yaris R with a dual hybrid, but a 2L Turbo. The BMW Z5 won't include that.

Default New Toyota Supra first prototype spotted finally

http://www.supramkv.com/threads/2018...e-spotted.358/

Loving how they kept it relatively small. Will be interesting to see how the front end looks underneath that camo since that was one of the keys to the FT-1 looking so good. Hoping they kept the FT-1 Formula 1 style look.

Love how Toyota is always late to the game. The sports car and overall sedan market is in decline, not to mention overall industry sales of vehicles will not match last years and they are bringing a high price sports car. It wont sell in any quantity, deemed a failure, gets cancelled within 5 years. It is about 5 to 7 years too late.
