Mercedes SLS Final Edition will say hello, goodbye in LA
It is an unjust world we live in. There are a number of cars on sale that we wouldn't be upset to see disappear. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is certainly not one of those cars. With its absurd gull-wing doors and its wonderful, ridiculous, powerful 6.2-liter, AMG V8, it remains one of the most exciting cars on sale today, despite having hit the US market back in 2010.
But because life isn't fair, Mercedes will be announcing at next week's Los Angeles Auto Show that the SLS AMG will be put out to pasture. As a sort of sendoff, it will launch a limited-edition model called the SLS AMG Final Edition, which it will also show at LA.
SLS production is set to close up shop in the middle of 2014, but before that, it'll turn out a Final Edition that improves on the SLS AMG's 583 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. We should also expect a styling change here and there, while our friends at Car and Driver are expecting an upgraded interior. The team at Auto Motor und Sport have a spy gallery of possible changes for the SLS AMG Final Edition (fair warning, it's in German).
We'll have all the details on the SLS AMG's last hurrah when it arrives at next weeks LA Auto Show.

Just saw the SLS AMG Black version of this car on Top Gear last night. It's an amazing vehicle 
I've seen one of these here in San Diego, a white one, it's really really nice!

AMG kills off its V8 supercar with a big-winged 'Final Edition'. Will you miss it?
We warned you to prepare yourselves, and now it has come to pass: the Merc SLS is dead.
Mercedes has confirmed that it shall reveal a ‘Final Edition' SLS at the LA and Tokyo shows next week, marking the end of the line for its monstrous V8 supercar.
The Final Edition is described by Mercedes "an ultimate, particularly attractive variant of our super sports car", and looks like a poshed-up version of the stock SLS, not a Black Series-beating run-out special.
It gets the same 583bhp 6.3-litre V8 as the ‘standard' SLS GT, not the uprated 622bhp version found in the SLS Black.
But like the Black, the Final Edition gets a whacking great fixed rear wing, along with a black bonnet - which we're assuming is carbon fibre rather than a salvage yard respray job.
We know it'll be limited to a production run of 350 cars. But beyond that, Merc's staying schtum on details, though we're promised an interior upgraded over the standard SLS. We're hoping rocket launchers.
As we reported earlier, the SLS will be replaced by Merc's upcoming smaller sports car, codenamed ‘C190' and expected to rival the 911 when it arrives next year. The front-engined two-seater is expected to get a new 4.4-litre turbo V8 good for 500bhp.
