MechaZilla, Coming to a Nissan near you
Nissan’s boss of engineering, sales and marketing Andy Paler confirmed the next generation Nissan GT-R will be powered by a hybrid system.
Speaking to Autocar, Palmer said: “There is an inevitability about electrification of all cars in the future, and there is the very real prospect of enhancements coming from this and ending up on a sports car like the Nissan GT-R. The electric systems can fill in the gaps in the torque curve and offer genuine performance gains, as well as lowering emissions. It’s win-win, and I’d expect to see some form of hybridisation on the next generation of car.”
The Porsche 918 Spyder does 0-60 in under 3 seconds, yet is capable of getting 72MPG.
The BMW i8 is capable of 113MPG, 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds, and an ELECTRONICALLY LIMITED top speed of 155mph...
What do you guys think? Is this Hybrid formula the new way to make power AND achieve fuel efficiency?Does this make the GT-R better or worse for you?
Thanks,
Irving

When the GSh first came out, I immediately took a liking towards hybrid technology especially the performance aspects of it. Kudos to other manufacturers like Nissan and Porsche to raise the performance bar higher.

we knew it had to be a hybrid. More torque off the line, better efficiency, and the green image. My concern is weight and price. The GTR is already a bit of a pig that defies physics. I highly doubt that the engineers are going to be excited about adding another 200-300lbs or more onto the already scale tipping 3750 lbs curb weight. This means more light weight composite materials and higher level design, etc. My concern is that the GTR will jump very significantly in price although it will me an amazing performer . In the end regardless of price the GTR will always outperform the cars that are 2-4 times the price. It is, and always has been, a true GIANT KILLER.
