Stays true to the Kopen concept
Several brochure scans with the 2015 Dahiatsu Copen have surfaced the web ahead of an official reveal set for next month.
Back in November last year Daihatsu introduced the Kopen concept at the Tokyo Motor Show, announcing its intentions of bringing back the kei car in 2015. Last month several teaser images were released hinting at an imminent official reveal of the production version which is slated to reach the market next year.
These are a few brochure scans of the new Copen which as you can see looks a lot like the concept and Daihatsu has already confirmed it will boast a customizable composite body featuring thirteen removable "outer plates." The vehicle will utilize a D-Frame skeletal structure which is three times stiffer compared to the chassis fitted onto the original model.
Moreover, the new Copen will benefit from significantly increased torsional rigidity improving not only handling but also the ride comfort, while the power-operated roof will need around 20 seconds to open or close.
Power will come from a 12-valve 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated gasoline engine delivering 64 PS (47 kW) at 6,400 rpm and a peak torque of 92 Nm at 3,200 rpm sent to the road via a five-speed manual transmission or an optional "seven-speed super active" CVT.
An official reveal of the Dahiatsu Copen reboot will occur next month, with sales slated to commence in 2015.

2015 Daihatsu Copen revealed in production guise [video]
Features a customizable body
Following the Kopen concept's reveal at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, Daihatsu has taken the wraps off the production-ready 2015 Copen.
Kei cars are back in style as Daihatsu has brought back its cute Copen which features a customizable body as the owner can replace just about all panels, with the exception of the roof and doors. Even some of the interior components are customizable so the level of personalization options offered by the Copen surpasses even the MINI.
The petite car is 3395mm long, 1475mm wide and 1280mm tall and uses a "D-frame" lightweight monocoque promising to make it three times stiffer than its predecessor and also improve torsional rigidity. These changes should have a positive effect on the ride comfort and handling while the two-piece electric roof has added only 154 lbs (40 kg) to the vehicle's weight.
Under the hood will be a three-cylinder, naturally-aspirated 12-valve gasoline engine with 64 PS (47 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 92 Nm (68 lb-ft) at 3,200 rpm delivered to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed CVT.
The simplistic interior houses a wide variety of equipment such as push button start, leather steering wheel and gear ****, heated seats, keyless entry, air conditioning, heated windscreen along with a carbon fiber trim and an optional infotainment system placed on top of the central dashboard.
On sale in 2015, the Daihatsu Copen will cost 1,798,200 yen (about 17,600 USD / 13,000 EUR / 10,300 GBP) for the CVT-equipped model and 1,819,800 yen (17,800 USD / 13,100 EUR / 10,400 GBP) for the five-speed version.

Daihatsu Copen Robe ‘Lights’ up Tokyo Auto Salon
If you’re a fan of compact roadsters, you might be jealous that the Daihatsu Copen isn’t available in North America.
Making an appearance at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon is this rad little roadster, which features parts from some of Japan’s finest tuners. On the outside, the body has been customized by Tamon Design while wheels come courtesy of Gram Lights. With the top dropped on the show floor in Tokyo, the Copen exposes its Recaro bucket seats featuring red stitching that matches the floor mats.
The Copen Robe is powered by a 660-cc turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 63 hp and 68 lb-ft of torque. It might not sound like much, but the Copen Robe also weighs a scant 1,875 lbs.We imagine with some of the go-fast goods, this particular Daihatsu Copen Robe is a blast to drive.
