I think they need an all new LX to compete with the GL and the Range Rover.
I would personally love to see the LX become it's own model separate from the LC. Becoming unibody but retaining a permanent 4x4 system like the RR. Lighter body, better handling, efficiency, better use of space, more differentiation etc..
That would be a good idea, especially seeing as how the lux suv market is starting to really heat up. Next gen GL is supposed to be an SUV S-class essentially...
LX is dictated by the Land Cruiser, which is dictated by the perceived needs in the Middle East, the leading market for the vehicle. Those currently still demand the rigors of a body on frame (supposedly).
Toyota is nowhere near launching a new large unibody type SUV platform. They can't even greenlight a bigger 3-row for Lexus.
But I agree with everyone here that they do indeed need something to compete with the likes of the Land Rover/Range Rover models, Mercedes, BMW, Audi etc.

What do you mean "unibody"? Like all other SUV? Body-on-frame is much better of real 4x4.
Biggest gap in the lineup is definitely a full size 3 row luxury crossover a la Audi Q7

Like I said, I have $60,000 waiting for it.
60K will probably buy an average Q7, since they start at $47,700. I assume you are waiting for a direct Lexus Q7 competitor with three-row seats?
The Lexus GX, which starts just under 50K, has three-row seats in it, but, having sampled one, I don't think you would particularly like the way it drives. While no one buys a mid-to-large-size SUV to be a sports car, even so, the GX is still, IMO, excessively dull and boring on the road, not as quiet and refined as some other Lexus models, and drives like a wood-and leather appliance.
I don't want a Q7, I want a three row Lexus crossover SUV, a'la the QX60.
That's why I included the comments about the Lexus GX that I did. It might (?) fulfill the letter of your wishes (3X Row-seats), but probably not the spirit. The 3-Row GX drives like an appliance, feels somewhat like a converted Toyota 4Runner even though it is not quite as truck-like (it is actually based on the Toyota Prado), and I just don't think you would like it, I can see why you are (now) saving your money.
The QX60 you mention, BTW (formerly the JX35), is nice. Its interior fit/finish is excellent, It drives reasonably well, and you can probably get a good deal on one at an Infiniti shop. The only (possible) qualm I have with it is the CVT transmission, which, though having been improved enough now to be used with some V6 powerplants, I'm not yet totally sold on for long-term durability.
I've driven the GX many times, it doesn't appeal to me on several levels. I don't like the body on frame layout and what that does to the driving experience or the interior space, I don't like the layout of the third row, economy, etc. The QX60 was perfect, what kept me out of it was the CVT.
