It's about time. Sending out the 3IS without this engine was a blunder.
Now, with the expected 2.0t output, this is going to infringe on the 3.5 motor. So, now the 3.5 needs attention next. I'm sure we'll be seeing updates to it in the next few years. Raise one bar and you have to raise the other to keep them apart (as other companies have already done).
So with the 2.0t coming into play, it makes me think if the GS will actually get a price cut. What do you all think? Lesser motor, lesser output, less speed should mean a lower sticker as it has in other cars, right?

yes, a turbo will be more powerful and more fuel efficient, but at the cost of higher maintenance and realibility.
3IS has an extremely good chassis that is can cope with an older engine.

It's not just my opinion. Much of the auto press has reviewed the new IS saying the 2.5 was behind or was the car's biggest drawback. Then to have such an all-new engine debut one year after the 3IS is released adds insult to injury. Bring your best package all at once to make the biggest splash and impact (first impressions are everything in this industry). One can only imagine how many more new IS's Lexus would be selling if it had the fresh engine with the corresponding raves and reviews. Why settle for good when you can settle for better? 3I is good. 3IS 2.0t is better. Lexus chose good instead of better.

I always thought that there was too big a gap between the 250 NA and the 350 NA engines. It should have been 250 NA, 300 NA then 350 NA.
In a way, the 200t replaces the hypothetical 300 NA engine being that the prev gen GS300 had a 245hp 3L NA engine. The 250 NA segment will be completely abolished in the near future with the IS200t/GS200t occupying the segment previously occupied by the IS300/GS300 NA.
NA = Normal Aspirated

Haha, I doubt it.
The CT is so far a hybrid only vehicle. It's more likely to come a CT 250h or 300h than a 200t.
But perhaps a 140t or 160t using the same technology as the upcomming IS 200t.
The germans use a lot of small displacement turbo engines, and they are the primary rival to the Lexus brand.

I think it's not optimal that Lexus is introducing the 2.0t into the IS in it's second model year, but I think it was unavoidable in that they wanted to get the IS out there, and obviously the engine wasn't ready. There's probably been a lot of work done on it to ensure the same reliability and smoothness standards that Lexus customers expect, and not have a repeat of the BMW turbo debacle. Not to mention, it's presumably the start of a new family of turbo engines to sit alongside the hybrid powertrains.

The German competition regularly do that. Mercedes and BMW's engine/vehicle model are rarely in sync either. The C class in the last 3 generations have usually used carryover engines, and newer powerplants usually come in 2-3 years into the lifecycle of the newer model.

If they could have released this 2.0t in 2013, they would have... but it wasnt ready and it is full of new tech that is premiering on Toyota's 2015 engines.

Any chance for this generation or will it have to wait until the 5GS arrives?
Either way most likely GS will replace my current 5 but with the new engine it would be a certainty.

Any rumors of a manual coming out? I'm about to trade my is250 in for a manual s4 in the second half of the year due to Lexus' lack of anything manual. If there's something in the pipeline I might hold off.
