BMW 2-Series Thread

I like what I'm reading, but the sexy-factor is just not there. The greenhouse is too domed and too tall to have that low-slung, slick, sports car/personal coupe look. Can you imagine what this car would look like if it had an A5-esque, or even a 4-Series upper half? BMW had a chance to do all with one car, but missed a crucial element.

If there's a better driver's car than this in BMW's line-up, then we haven't yet driven it
Should I buy one?
That depends on whether you want to wait for the M4. If you can't wait until we've delivered our verdict on that, then rest assured that this is currently the most enjoyable, well balanced model in BMW's range.
It's compact, easy to see out of, has comfortable, anchoring seats, and is also a very entertaining car for the £35,000 asking price.

Sizzling 322bhp BMW M235i gets 1 Series-based two-door off to a flying start
Verdict
The BMW M235i is a few thousand pounds pricier than an M135i hatch, but has more power and an M diff. Plus, it’s ultra-refined one minute, then a playful performance car the next. Cheaper and more efficient versions are available, but for pure driving thrills the M235i is every inch the junior M car.

Verdict
This car could be the performance bargain of the year. The thing that comes close to the new M235i is the BMW M135i hatch, which has the same engine but in a (slightly) softer chassis setting with five-doors and a £3615 lower starting price. This two-door version serves up a slightly harder-edged technical package wrapped in a more attractive two-door body, costing it ever so slightly in terms of practicality, yet it’s still massively livable.
The M235i is a car that’s comfy in town, devours winding roads and is at home on long sweeping bends. Yet its agility and grip on winding technical sections will make you think long and hard about that used M3 you were thinking about. We’ll give it four stars for now, having driven only the auto version and on US roads, but once it lands here in March, this could be a five-star legend. The possibility of an even better M2 version is mind-blowing, but this car may be the sweet spot as a daily-driver.

M235i is another candidate i would consider to replace my IS350. love the size and for once it comes pretty much loaded besides leather and navi which i don't really need. okay i know this is a Lexus board, but would rather get a '14 IS350 F-Sport or a M235i, if internal space isn't an issue.

Oh I'm with you, the E92 is a gorgeous design. Something went wrong with the "evolution" of the current 3/4 Series line (IMO). But it does appear BMW still knows how to make a coupe ie this 2-Series. So I guess the good news is that this better looking coupe will also be more affordable

I liked the 1 series the way it was. It really stood out from the rest of their lineup. Now it just looks like a baby 3. When will Porsche, Audi and BMW just break their own mold. Porsche is the worst, don't get me wrong, I love the 918. But let's remember when that had a 914, 917, 911, 944 and 928 that all looked unique. Small, Medium , Large is so boring.

XCar Says There’s No Need for a BMW M2 when the M235i Is that Good
You have probably heard rumors about BMW considering an M2 Coupe, but until that model is officially confirmed, the closest thing to a full-blown BMW M car based on the 2-Series Coupe is the M235i Coupe.
Powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged straight-six engine producing 322hp and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft), the M235i Coupe is a pretty fast car. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.8 seconds with the 8-speed automatic gearbox and reaches an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
Would anyone feel the need for more performance and more fun behind the wheel? Well, XCar presenter Alex Goy believes the BMW M235i is powerful and fast enough as is. To prove his point, he adds it is faster to 100 km/h than the 1-Series M Coupe – albeit by just 0.1 seconds.

2016 BMW M2 Being Tested with N55 Turbo Engine in Manual and Automatic Versions
Confirming earlier reports, BMW is reportedly testing M-tuned versions of the 2-Series coupe that are powered by a more powerful version of the N55 engine in the M235i coupe.
The M2 is using the same N55 3.0L turbocharged six-cylinder as the M235i, but its output has been increased from 320 horsepower to between 380 and 400 horsepower. 2Addicts also reports that prototypes are being tested with both manual and automatic transmissions.
We're not sure when BMW will introduce the M2, but it's expected that it will be sometime in early 2016.
