End of an era: Land Rover to cancel current-gen Defender series in 2015
I'm a fan of the Defenders. I've driven both a 1994 US-spec D-110 V8 automatic and a 1966 D-90 manual 4cyl. My ex-roommate ended up buying the rival Merc G-Wagen (an ancient one) that I've spent a lot of time in. Both these vehicles have a lot in common with each other. Mercedes is still able to market theirs (for now).
End of an era, sadly. I have to wonder if Tata's long term plans have more to do with this than upcoming emissions and safety regs. There will be a replacement Defender but it's not going to have the same focus as the agricultural/military/indestructible current versions.
