Well I ordered a 2014 Ram Crew Cab that should arrive by the end of January 2014. I decided not to wait for the Diesel and went with the Hemi. I don't tow and even though it is a truck I love the 0-60 sprint and having the pep so I decided the Diesel is not for me and I am ok with the MPG of the gasser. I am getting excited for it to arrive, been almost 11 years since I had a new truck to drive!

Congrats. These aren't our fathers trucks anymore. They are far more comfortable and full of features yet they retain that usability and capability factor. Diesel sounds good but the allure of a V8 would have me in the same position as you if I were in the market for a truck. Ironically I write this as I sit in the lounge area of our local Dodge dealer. Had to take the GMs Ram 3500 into service because the passenger seat power went out with only 700 miles on the truck >_<

Base for that trim level. Not base for a Diesel engine equipped Ram truck. Plus when looking at truck prices you have to take the rebates, etc, into acount. I ordered my new Ram and still was able to get almost $10k off the MSRP. Trucks have the biggest mark-ups of any vehicle, especially the big 3, they are the cash cows and thus also have the most room to negotiate those prices down. Some of those buying the 2013's still on the lots are getting over $12K off MSRP. So that $49K truck is more like $39K with some negotiating.

I actually beleive the big three are inflating the truck MSRPs in order to somehow prop up truck resale values over the long haul. Even my 11 year old F150 has a trade in value of between $7-8K, and I only paid $23K for it all those years ago, but the MSRP was $32K.

Thanks. Sucks about the seat. That is the one downside to the domestics cramming tech into the trucks, it tends not to be as flawlessly executed as, oh say, a Lexus. If the Tundra has stepped up its game I would have given it a hard look as I love our IS-F, but the Ram out classes it interior, exterior and powertrain IMHO. Fingers crossed it is reliable, this is the first Chrysler product I will have ever owned.

Congratuations on your order. Hope you enjoy it.

You might (?) want to PM Josh (Army of One). I've reviewed a couple of newer Rams myself, but he has much more exerience with them than I do, has owned them, and was a truck/motorpool specialist in the Army.

Thanks, I am not overly worred about the reliability, the Ram forums paint the truck in a good light and there are not many big issues. I am glad mine is being build mid January instead of right before the holiday, did not really want the Holiday "no F's given" worker mentality to impact my build.

I will let you guys know my thoughts once I get a few miles on it. Now back to Diesel talk!

Yeah turns out the factory wiring harness came out of place and unknown that it was dangling when the seat was pulled forward the wires were pinched. But warranty covered it.

I come from a Ford Family but when I was younger my parents had two Pentastar products a older Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Cherokee. Both had transmission problems but despite that we loved the GC.

If I were in the market for a SUV I'd give the new JGC Diesel some serious consideration

We've had several Dodge/Chrysler products over the years. Other than some superficial issues with the electrical side of things, the cars have lasted a long time(other than the transmissions in our old 1990 Dynasty).

My folks currently drive an 06 300C and love it. It's had a few small issues at 185k, but I believe the post-Fiat vehicles are pretty solid. That HEMI will give you a permanent smile btw.

I picked up my 2014 Longhorn a few weeks ago, I can truly say I LOVE THIS TRUCK. So far so good, I went with the Hemi, 8-spd 3.92 combo, so I cannot comment on the Diesel, they just opened for orders a few weeks back. However, the fit, finish, and interior materials on the Longhorn are every bit as good if not better than our IS-F.

Default Diesel looking good

Chrysler flooded with over 8,000 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel orders in 3 days

2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Orders Top More Than 8,000 Units in Three Days, Filling Initial Allocation

• Between the afternoon of February 7th and the morning of February 10th, Ram Truck received more than 8,000 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel orders, which quickly filled the initial allocation for the exclusive powertrain
• First round of Ram 1500 EcoDiesel orders account for more than 50 percent of the total order mix
• Special order rate nearly twice the corporate average – an all-time high
• Overwhelming response attributed to best-in-class 28 MPG with 9,200 lbs. of towing capacity and strong consumer demand for exclusive light-duty diesel
• Actual customer orders for the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel take priority over dealer stocking orders

On the heels of EPA's certification of 28 MPG, Ram Truck opened the initial order allocation for the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel to receive a flood of orders from dealers across the nation. More than 8,000 trucks equipped with the fuel-sipping engine that packs 420 lb.-ft. of torque have been placed-just over 50 percent of the total mix. Even more surprising is the amount of orders already paid for by customers- twice the corporate average of sold customer orders on a truck that customers have yet to test drive.

"The Ram 1500 is the only half-ton truck available with a diesel, so we see this as incremental business by having the only truck that can offer best-in-class fuel economy of 28 MPG combined with 9,200 lbs. of towing capacity," said Reid Bigland, President and CEO - Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. "It's every truck manufacturer's dream to have this kind of initial order demand for a product. Fuel economy is the No. 1 request of half-ton buyers and the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel delivers without compromising capability."

The EcoDiesel-powered 2014 Ram 1500 has earned a 28-mpg rating from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the best highway-cycle test result ever achieved by a full-size, half-ton pickup. It also exceeds the EPA highway rating for the top-ranked small pickup. The breakthrough results mean Ram keeps the half-ton fuel-economy record set last year by the 2013 Ram 1500. Equipped with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 gasoline engine, the truck earned 25 mpg highway, a rating that stands for model-year 2014. The Ram 1500 now owns the half-ton pickup segment's top two spots in the EPA's 2014 highway fuel-economy rankings.

Production of the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel began in February with a group of specialized trucks in popular configurations. Normal processes place the initial build under quality review to assure every truck meets or exceeds targets. Shipping is expected in March, keeping the planned delivery within the first quarter of 2014.

Although Ram has reached its first planned order allocation numbers in three days, customers who special order the new truck will have priority in the build. Orders for dealer stocking will be filled once sold customer orders are filled. The next order allocation of Ram 1500 EcoDiesel trucks will open in early March.

Ram 1500
Ram 1500 - the most recognizable pickup on the road - delivers best-in-class fuel economy of 18 MPG city and 25 MPG highway with a truckload of pioneering, fuel-saving systems including a fuel efficient and powerful 3.6-liter V-6 engine and first-in-segment technologies: TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, stop-start system, thermal management system, pulse-width modulation and active aerodynamics, including grille shutters and air suspension. For 2014, the Ram 1500 offers a new, 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine that delivers an outstanding combination of best-in-class fuel efficiency 28 miles per gallon (mpg) - unsurpassed torque and up to 9,200 pounds of towing capability.

Looks like they hit a home run, FoMoCo mentioned something about a diesel in the F150 but that is something that they plan on offering in a few years.

This just goes to show people want a diesel option in a half ton. GM and Ford need to get on this asap. Nissan and Toyota are doing Cummins soon for their half tons. At least GM is right to offer a diesel in the Colorado/Canyon twins.

Hoovey, you can't claim Toyota is doing a Cummins in the Tundra. It is nowhere near close to being confirmed. Wards is terrible about lots of "rumors."
