i was told a wing on a FWD car does little to nothing.

A lot of people tend to think in terms of straight line performance only; therefore, concluding a rear wing on a FWD is useless. Many cars suffer from aerodynamic lift at high speed, regardless of FWD, RWD, or AWD. The rear wing generates downforce to counteract the lift, which is quite helpful on a FWD going around turns. You can imagine what happens when you take a fast turn through a corner with little traction in the rear.

Default New Honda Civic Type R: Official Photo Of Production Model

Here's the first full-body picture of Honda's new Civic Type R hot hatch. It shows the Type R standing next to the updated Civic hatchback and Tourer.

Together with the previous images of the car's rear-end and interior from a WCF reader and the teaser pictures from Honda itself, it gives us an all-around look at the production Civic Type R, less than 48 hours before its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday.

It's an aggressive looking hot hatch, but not as distinct as the original concept, as many styling elements such as the futuristic "devil horns" tail lamps, bloated rear fenders and cool LED strips on the front bumper got lost in translation.

Nevertheless, with a brand-new 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC engine said to produce more than 280-horses and promises from Honda about the car being the fastest in a niche that includes the VW Golf R and the Ford Focus RS, we're very eager to see what it can offer.

Default Meet The All-New 310hp Honda Civic Type R

Honda revealed at last its all-new weapon, the Civic Type R, featuring for the first time a turbocharged 2-litre VTEC engine.

Under the bonnet we find the newly developed 2-litre VTEC turbocharged engine, making 310hp at 6500rpm and 400Nm (295lb ft) of torque at 2500rpm. Zero to 62mph (0-100km/h) comes in 5.7sec with a best-in-class top speed of 167mph (270km/h). The rev-limiter is set at 7000rpm.

Honda has equipped the Civic Type R with a trick front suspension dubbed “Dual Axis Strut” and a limited-slip differential. Based on a McPherson setup, the Dual Axis Strut has an additional steering knuckle in order to reduce torque steer by up to 50% compared to a standard Civic, claims Honda. The dampers are now adaptive and the electric steering is specially tuned for the Type R.

The hottest of the Civics features for the first time a “+R” driving mode. By pressing a button, you get a more aggressive torque delivery, increased engine response, stiffer dampers by 30% and reduced assistance on the steering.

The most hardcore Civic of them all wants the FWD crown of its segment and judging by looks alone, it looks angry enough. The new Type R wears a very aggressive body kit that is designed not only to make the car look meaner but also increases downforce.

Default Watch The First Videos Of Honda's New Civic Type R

The first, official video footage of the Japanese hot hatch has been released short after the Geneva debut.

Don’t get too excited though, because Honda has not included any mechanical soundtrack in these videos.

Apart from the generic rolling footage which has no sound at all, destined mainly for TV shows, Honda has released footage of the Civic Type R while tested inside their own wind tunnel in Sakura, Japan to remind us the thoroughly developed aero agenda of the car.

But the most interesting video of the lot right now is the first one where we can see several details of the car, inside-out, from the exclusive Continental tyres to the classic Type R serial number plaque in front of the gear selector, to the front vents above the wheels and the “+R” button on the dash.

I think the US will get it or something like it. They made a left drive version.

Looks nice and aggressive. 310hp in that little sport hatch sounds like a lot of fun.

Click here to view more photos

While Honda officials are showing off the new Civic Type R in Geneva, their UK counterparts just confirmed pricing for the spicy-hot hatch.

The Civic Type R will go on sale in Britain this July with a starting price of £29,995 on the road for the base model, rising to £32,295 on the road for the GT edition that adds the following safety and comfort features:

Forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition system, lane departure warning, blind spot information including cross traffic monitor, dual control climate control, rain sensing auto wipers, dusk sensing auto lights, front and rear parking sensors, interior red ambient lighting, high beam support and Honda’s new infotainment system, CONNECT, with GARMIN navigation system.

This compares to £38,195 for the 355hp (360PS) Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG, £25,930 for Renault's Megane RS, £30,940 for the 296hp (300PS) Audi S3 and £30,150 for VW's 296hp (300PS) Golf R.

As a quick reminder, the Civic Type R gets a newly developed 306hp (310PS) 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

Default Honda Confirms 'Ring Time For New Civic Type-R – Fastest FWD Ever!

Honda has officially confirmed that its new turbocharged Civic Type-R is capable of completing a lap of the Nurburgring north loop in Germany.

The Civic was clocked at 7 minutes 50.63 seconds, which makes nearly four seconds a lap faster than the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R, and this isn’t even the stripped out version of the Honda!

The automaker did not provide a video for us to watch, but it did confirm that the time was achieved late in the testing phase, using a prototype that had production-spec everything.

They do concede that air-con, the passenger’s seat and all audio equipment have been removed to save weight, but only for the roll cage to add that weight back obviously making it safer.

The Civic Type-R will make its debut later at the Geneva motor show, in Switzerland.
