Default 2015 Chevrolet Suburban Earns Four-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

Just the Facts:
  • The redesigned 2015 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 SUV earned a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
  • The 2015 Suburban received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and three stars in the rollover crash test.
  • The rating applies to rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions of the Suburban.

WASHINGTON — The redesigned 2015 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 SUV earned a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2015 Suburban received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and three stars in the rollover crash test.

The rating applies to rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions of the Suburban.

Five stars is the highest rating. The 2015 Suburban is on sale now.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2015 Suburban.

Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, electronic stability control and a rearview camera. The 2015 Suburban features the segment's only front center airbag, an optional feature on bucket-seat models. It deploys from the inboard side of the driver's seat and inflates between the driver and front passenger for more protection in side-impact crashes.

The Suburban also features the Safety Alert Seat. It is standard on LT and LTZ models and part of an optional Driver Alert package on the Suburban LS. The special seat pulses the left, right and both seat-cushion bolsters to alert the driver to danger.

Key competitors to the Suburban include the Ford Expedition, Nissan Armada and Toyota Land Cruiser.

Edmunds says: NHTSA is just beginning to post 2015 crash-test ratings. Ratings have not been posted on the aforementioned Suburban competitors.

Starting to see a lot on the road. I'd conclude it's the perfect update to the 1999 model. Boxy son of a gun.

Default See What a Supercharger Can do to a 2015 Chevy Tahoe

Hennessey offers kits for a variety of cars and tastes, but they all have one thing in common: they boost the power output and delivery significantly.

Stabbing it off the line in a Chevy Tahoe, with an HPE500 supercharger kit, just looks so much faster than what the regular variant can muster.

The kit boosts the output of the 5.3-liter V8 from 355 horses all the way up to 500, which is achieved at 5,250 rpm. It’s made up of a TSV1900 supercharger, upgraded injectors, high-flow cylinder heads and cats, new engine management, as well as stainless steel headers.

The video posted below shows it off both on the dyno and in a drag race against a non-modified Tahoe with the same standard 5.3-liter V8. It almost looks as if the stock one isn’t even trying…

So this new redesigned suburban is less safe than the 2014 and prior? That's real great.. Cause we all know how hard GM tries to keep their occupants safe right?? Hmm I feel a structural recall, I mean refresh, coming for the new SUVs already.

If there was ever a case for, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," it's the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon. But can these old-school behemoths coexist with a burgeoning field of midsize crossovers? The answer might surprise you.
