Aside from the gorgeous lines of the Alfa Romeo 4C, there was very little information released about the car when it debuted earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show. With the sleek coupe reportedly already in production and a North American debut planned for the LA Auto Show, details about the mid-engine Alfa have finally been leaked out thanks to some dealer brochures found by AutoEdizione.

With dimensions of 157 inches long, 73 inches wide and 46.5 inches tall, the 4C is about the same length as a Mazda Miata but is lower and wider. Thanks to its curb weight of just under 2,000 pounds and the 241-horsepower, 1.8-liter four-cylinder, acceleration from 0-60 should happen in less than 4.5 seconds to go with a top speed of 160 miles per hour. Like the car itself, extra space is limited in the 4C with just 3.8 cubic-feet of space available for cargo.

In terms of options, Alfa Romeo will offer the car in six different exterior colors and four different interior colors (to go with two seat types). Buyers will also be able to choose between four brake caliper colors and four wheel options.

Despite the production having started in Italy already, it will still take a while before we see the first 4C’s standing in the showrooms. Deliveries of the first series called ‘Launch Edition’ most probably will not start before next year. The first official brochures, however, have been handed over to some dealers already. The variant from a anonymous source which we received contains all information about the specifications and options of the 4C. And of course we want to share this information with you.

Here’s a summary of all the technical data;

Overall Length 3989 mm
Overall Width 1864 mm
Overall Width / door mirrors 2090 mm (1864 mm without mirrors)
Overall Height 1183 mm

Braking distance 100–0 km/h (m) 36
Front Suspension Type Double wishbone
Rear Suspension Type McPherson
Acceleration 0-100 km/h 4,5 sec
Top speed 258 km/h
Maximum lateral acceleration (g) 1.1
Drive Type Rear Wheel Drive

Fuel Tank Capacity (liters) 40
Fuel Consumption (l/100km) on Combined Cycle 6,8
Fuel Consumption (l/100km) on Urban Cycle 9,8
Fuel Consumption (l/100km) on Extra-Urban Cycle 5,0
CO2 Emissions (g/km) 157
EU Emissions Standard E6
Efficiency class G
Boot Capacity (dm3) 110
Number of seats 2

There isn’t too much choice in this hand-built 4C. Alfa Romeo offers 6 paintwork colors and 4 types of alloys. To make sure that the 4 pot brakes match the exterior, they’re also available in 4 different shades. We expect to see quite a few ‘Rosso Competizione’ and the typical 5-hole-alloys-combinations. When it comes to the interior, there’s a choice between 4 different seats and a few details which are to be found in the thumbnails below.

Impressive! Excited about the Mazda!

I can't wait to see the price for this thing. I am just not a fan of the spider-eyes headlights though.

One thing I do like seeing the 100 kph to 0 in 36 meters.

Default Alfa Romeo 4C to be 220 lbs heavier in US due to regulations

Alfa Romeo 4C to be 220 lbs heavier in US due to regulations

The key to performance in a car like the new Alfa Romeo 4C is its low curb weight. That's why Alfa made its chassis out of carbon fiber, the subframes and engine from aluminum and the bodywork out of composites, helping to keep the whole package down below the 2,000-pound mark. But that magic number will only hold true overseas. In the US, it'll be a good 220 lbs heavier.

That's because US safety regulations, according to reports, will add an extra 100 kilograms to the car's curb weight, now expected to come in at 2,204 lbs. In order to comply with those regulations and earn its certification for use on the Great American Road, Alfa's engineers had to add some aluminum reinforcement to the carbon monocoque, modify the substructures for impact absorption and fit a new fuel system as well.

Those kinds of additions add up to the point that the US-spec 4C will likely be a bit slower to 62 than the 4.5 seconds quoted for the European model. Here's hoping that the lag won't be too significant.

I have traditionally liked the looks of most Alfas but I haven't warmed to this yet. But it's a little spider of a car and should be a blast to drive.

I thought it looked better before. This things looks like a hunchback Lotus Exige. The performance numbers look insane. The car is a true feather weight , even in North American trim with the added weight

Default Alfa Romeo 4C delayed for US until mid-2014

Alfa Romeo 4C delayed for US until mid-2014

It appears that Alfa Romeo is banking on the principle of absence leading to fonder hearts when it comes to the 4C, with a report in the Detroit Free Press saying the arrival of the coupe has been pushed back to the second quarter of 2014. No reason was given for the delay.

We can only hope the Free Press article is correct, since it cited a Fiat spokesperson who said the 4C wouldn't be here "until the second quarter." A Bloomberg piece on the same issue, however, cited a Chrysler spokesperson as saying "the 4C probably will be available in the second quarter of next year." In situations like this, when the company has already said twice this year that the 4C would be here this year, words like "probably" are the opposite of uplifting.

Default Alfa Romeo 4C clocks 8:04 Nürburgring lap time

Alfa Romeo 4C clocks 8:04 Nürburgring lap time

Typically when we report on a car lapping the Nürburgring, the time starts with a seven or even a six – but then again, the car that's achieved those lap times generally sell for six or seven figures. That's what makes this latest lap-time report as interesting as it is. Because while the mid-engined European sportscar in question has clocked in over the eight-minute mark, its price tag – and cylinder count – don't come anywhere near the kind of exotica these reports typically involve.

The car in question, of course, is the new Alfa Romeo 4C, which has reportedly clocked a Nordschleife lap time of 8:04. That would put it in stride with the Audi R8 and Porsche Cayman S, and second only to the flyweight, can't-believe-it's-still-street-legal Caterham R500 Superlight among the fastest four-cylinder cars ever to run around Green Hell.

Default Alfa Romeo planning 4C Stradale, roadster variants

Alfa Romeo planning 4C Stradale, roadster variants

The fate of the Alfa Romeo 4C arriving in the United States may very well depend on the outcome of a Chrysler IPO. But whether we get it here or not, Alfa Romeo is said to be working on some upgrades.

According to the latest rumors, the Italian automaker is preparing a racing version of the 4C. Which is all well and good for racing drivers and their teams, but the more tantalizing prospect is that Alfa could in turn develop a hardcore Stradale version for the road. Following a similar formula as Ferrari applied to the 360 Challenge Stradale (not to mention the 430 Scuderia and 458 Speciale), Maserati did to the GranTurismo MC Stradale and Lamborghini to the Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale, the 4C Stradale would likely boast more power with even less weight to motivate, along with a stiffer suspension set-up and upgraded brakes to keep it all in check.

There's also word of a more luxurious version on the other end of the spectrum, and a partial roadster version with a removable roof panel like what Porsche once called a "targa." But the better news for aesthetes turned off by the production 4C's lord-of-the-flies headlights is that the Alfa Romeo Centro Stile is reportedly planning on swapping out those controversial units for the (relatively) more conventional look of the concept's.

UGH, I don't have pictures, but I saw two 4C's in camo driving downtown Grand Rapids, MI on Saturday night. Although I didn't get to see much of the design cause of the camo, the overall shape and and lines of the car (especially that rear hunch) looks FANTASTIC.

Surprisingly, I couldn't find Alfa or the 4C is on the list of exhibitors/displays for the Detroit Auto Show, which starts in just a couple of weeks. L.A. Show or not, if Alfa is serious about bringing it here to the U.S. in 2014, I can't see why they wouldn't display it at the country's largest auto show.
