Default Consumer Reports Sees 2015 Hyundai Sonata as "Very Competitive"

Gone are the flamboyant flowing lines of the previous-gen Hyundai Sonata, having been replaced with modern, almost-Germanic shapes and lines that give it a much more sober appearance.

Consumer Reports got a chance to prod around the new Sonata, and their first impressions are actually very good and promising for this new model. They say that aside from the new dose of style, the car should be pretty similar to its predecessor, with an updated carryover engine range that will also eventually boast a 1.6-liter turbo as the base.

This Sonata will probably change many buyers’ perspectives regarding the image of the Hyundai brand, and it’s to the credit of whoever is guiding this market grabbing surge of the Korean automaker; that someone is doing a rather fine job indeed.

IMO, this is better designed car than the new camry. it flows better, proportion is sleeker, and just overall a better presentation than camry IMO. but i'm very disappointed by the vanilla approach.

it seems like toyota is trying harder to be like what hyundai's been doing, and hyundai is like 'let's do vanilla, eh, toyota'.

both are fail IMO.

sonata - boring, not imaginative, safe, vanilla, 'going backwards'
camry - bold, ugly face, collage design, 'look at me'

Fail and fail.

me disappoint. i'll take mazda6 over these 2 and not even think twice about it.

Well the new Camry is just a facelift. The Sonata is a totally redesign.

that's even more disturbing.

so hyundai had 5 years to think about the new sonata, and this is all they could come up with? and camry is like only what 2-3 year old and they decided to trash the previous design? admitting it was a total fail?

what in the world? fail & fail.

I dont think Toyota is trying to do anything like Hyundai at all, they are just following design trends where people want to express themselves with their car.

On the other hand, Hyundai might have looked at old Camry and made their car conservative to sell like "Camry".

In the end, customers vote with their wallets, it is as simple as that.

I'm curious to see how the new Sonata's interior feels in real life. I like its angular styling and its less derivative of Infiniti now. It's worth noting this Sonata is not on a new platform, but it has been stiffened and enhanced. New platform is coming for next-gen, kinda like how Toyota treats the Camry.

Default Hyundai's First 2015 Sonata Ad has Jeff Bridges Telling us it was Designed to Impress

Hyundai's new generation 2015 Sonata that was presented in the States only a couple of weeks ago at the New York Auto Show, has gained its first commercial with a 1-minute long online spot named "Designed to Impress" narrated (if we're not mistaken) by Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges.

Once again, the Koreans place the spotlight on the more sophisticated and mature nature (perhaps overly mature…) of the new Sonata that will be arriving in stores around the country within the next month or so.

As pointed out by out tipster Taylor M., the ad "also gives a preview, albeit brief, of a much more gesture-intensive infotainment system--the first look outside of how the system utilized Apple's CarPlay", which will allow the driver to make phone calls, use maps, listen to music and access messages. Siri is also there to help, just as long as you have an iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c or iPhone 5 running the latest version of iOS 7.

That video image thumbnail of the Sonata in silver looks better than the orange one above IMO.

they are making their midsized cars with all the features and cosmetics that their more expensive cars have.

the front led drl, lane assist, rear drl. These are traits that separate the higher end cars from the mid level cars. Now there's no reason to even buy a higher luxury line car since these cars now have ALL of them.

Must be an acquired taste. Believe though it does give a reason for the design guys at Toyota to be called into the boss' office (but not like in: In my office now!!!). Yes, 'vanilla' , that word says a million things. The connotation you guys give that word ought to be entered into the Oxford Dictionary. This car is vanilla! Still don't know if Hyundai can match Toyota in the reliability stakes.
But you must give Hyundai that, they taught the motoring world what marketing should look like.
