Default Rumors says no FR-S convertible OR turbocharged versions after all

Has anyone seen this article yet? Toyota says it will produce no convertible FR-S and no tubocharged FR-S. Very disappointing news.

I just test drove a 2013 FR-S 6-speed manual today and loved it. True, it could use about 50 more horsepower but 200hp wasn't poor at all for a a lightweight daily sports car.

Nonetheless, I fully expected Toyota to come up with a turbocharged version and this news is a head-scratcher.

This better not be true. A hotter version ala Turbo, and a vert are necessary to show Toyota's commitment to sport and leisure

And Toyota doesn't say anything, it is a made up story where writer writes down what he thinks might happen with Toyota lineup without any input from Toyota.... How the heck do you end up with thread title like that?

People need to read the article before jumping to conclusions.

Mods please change this thread title, as it is misleading. There is no credible source for these rumours.

I wonder if a tuned ECU can give more hp. I am surprised the original S2000 had the same amount of displacement but turned out 240-250 hp. One thing that is puzzling there is a TRD supercharger for the car, but you can't really buy it.

One thing that would be nice for a stock version turning out 320 hp (w/supercharger or turbo) give or take, be about 100 pounds lighter and also be 2" lower. Now that be something a small stock Toyota able to do 0-62 in 4.5 secs.

I do have to say drifting at 50 kph is pretty sweet. I wonder if I can get a ticket for having fun and being within the speed limit :/

Well, it's now legal in most states. So, it will sell if it does come out.

didn't they just show a convertible version of the FRS at a show recently ??

actually they did. I don't buy this at all. The turbo option is one thing but why would they not do a convertible. S2K, 350Z, and mustang have convertibles so they should too

I hope no convertible, too bad if there is no turbo though.

Sorry. I didn't make up the article or intentionally wish to mislead anyone. I just posted it in hopes it would be of interest to forum members here. I'd certainly welcome the writer to be totally incorrect. I also won't believe in the existence of a factory turbocharged FR-S until it's actually on Toyota/Scion's website.

Nonetheless, the 6-speed NA version was a great drive. Clutch was a little too light though.

i am sure... but original article quoted had 2 sentences about frs which then this guy made into "toyota confirms that there will be no FRS turbo"... it is all crap and nothing comes from toyota at all... in fact it is made up, for instance he says convertible is too hard to make because of added weight while chief engineer already said that it was designed to be convertible structurally from the start.

i have seen these "news" in local paper in my country now, it is very annoying.
