Default Toyota Gives Nod To Future Lexus LF-LC Based Supra?

Toyota's 2010 unintended-acceleration crisis and the Japan earthquake and tsunami that followed in 2011 diverted engineering resources and resulted in delays in the development of some key products and engines.

But while Toyota plays catch-up in areas such as direct injection, it is moving ahead in others. For example, it is adopting continuously variable transmissions starting this fall with the redesigned Corolla. Also, there is renewed interest in turbocharging -- starting with the Lexus brand, but quickly filtering into Toyota-badged products.

Here is a look at what's coming from Toyota........

Supra: Toyota is considering a return of the venerable sports car name. After letting the Supra trademark die in 2006, the company renewed the application in 2010. Plus, new Toyota Chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada has said the sports car Toyota is developing with BMW should reflect the previous Supra. Still, dealers shouldn't expect anything for several years. If Akio Toyoda has approved the Lexus LF-LC coupe, that platform could filter down to the Supra.

Reskin of RC probably makes more sense. With that said, I still think it will be a product of the BMW partnership

Yeah at first I was thinking they will just make a water down reskin RC/RC-F and slip the Supra name on it. But than the Toyota/BMW midsize sports car was anounces and all the car media said a new Supra will come from this project.

Even if we do see a concept for the MK5 later this year you're right, it will most likely take them at least 2-3 years before we see it in showroom floors.

I can't wait for the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. Production RC, NX concept, and Supra concept

why in the world would i tbe based on lf-lc? that makes no sense... it would be based on some simpler platform, like IS or simpler version on Mark X... Autonews is becoming highly unreputable when Rechtin writes for it.

Supra with BMW influence? I don't want thing to break down. Toyota, you can do it all by yourself. They should've done the FT86 without Subaru too.

BRING IT !!!!!!!! and do it quickly and rock the market. WIth the splash the 350Z made when it returned over about 10 years ago, the Supra name will absolutely shake the market up, especially when you consider with Toyota tech it will probably get small V6 efficiency with V8 power. Can't wait
