In fact, the instant on-demand torque of the electric component of its drivetrain would prove to be a selling point.
Its not that, its that Americans don't equate hybrid with performance. its not just Lexus hybrid performance sales that are poor, its everybodys. Hybird=economy in the US. The reasons that other countries don't have that issue are that other countries are accustomed to non gas powerplants, other countries have tax structures and such that make hybrids VERY appealing, and other countries have much more expensive gas.

I for instance would never buy a GSh. I don't like or want a hybrid. US buyers would never consider a hybrid car as competition to the M5, E63, etc.

If the GSh offered 400hp and hybrid AWD, a longer EV range and the same mileage for the current price, coupled with a better marketing 'hybrid performance efficiency' campaign it'd do far better. 338 total system hp is 5 years out of date. For the time being let's see if this 3.5L V6 Hybrid AWD 500hp system slated for the LF-LC (SC) and possibly the 5LS trickles down the line.

I digress, this is thread is about the GS F which is getting a NA V8 and NO hybrid assistance for now.

While everyone is putting deposits on the RC F maybe I'll skip it and do GS F

Most people buy base model engines, that includes German vehicles... very few buy V8's anymore.
+1 to what spwolf said. I also believe that price was the main reason for the lack of sales of the GS450h. It's a significant "step up" in price compared to the base model GS. If it's MSRP was closer to lower 50's rather than at 60K, it might have been more appealing to buyers and considered as a true alternate to the GS350.

In regards to the GS450h, the Performance to MPG ratio (combined with the reliability of the Lexus brand) is quite appealing to me. I don't think that I would consider any other "green" car that has high reliability for long term owners that can match it for performance to mpg.. unless you talk about the $100K+ price range that the Tesla Model S goes for.

Default Lexus could bring two new models to 2015 NAIAS in January, likely GS F and RX

GS F to get 500 bhp

Lexus Group Vice President Jeff Bracken has announced at least one, if not two, models will premiere in January 2015 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Talking to WardsAuto, Bracken said Lexus will bring to the forthcoming NAIAS at least one new model while a second car is possible as well. He didn't divulge the identity of these two new vehicles but chances are he was referring to the GS F and RX.

The GS F was spotted numerous times while undergoing testing and is expected to get an RC F-sourced V8 5.0-liter engine upgraded to deliver about 500 bhp (373 kW) and 400 lb-ft (541 Nm) whereas in the RC F it packs 467 bhp (348 kW) and 389 lb-ft (541 Nm). Output will be channeled to the wheels through an eight-speed transmission that should grant a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) run in approximately 4.5 seconds before hitting a top speed in excess of 170 mph (273 km/h).

Details about the next generation RX are scarce at the moment but Lexus NX assistant chief engineer Kei-Ichi Nishiyama previously stated the new RX might be transformed into a three-row crossover since "there is lots of demand [for seven seats] from the US market." In addition, Lexus Australia chief executive Sean Hanley backed up the statement by saying Lexus has been studying the possibility of installing seven seats in the new RX set to grow in size to accommodate the additional passengers and also as a measure to distance itself from the NX.

Default Lexus teases a new F model for Detroit

Lexus has announced plans to introduce a new F model at the North American International Auto Show on January 13th.

The company is keeping details a closely guarded secret but they released two teaser images which show the car will have an aggressive front fascia with a mesh spindle grille that is flanked by large air intakes and LED headlights. We can also see carbon fiber trim and attractive alloy wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system.

Lexus didn't have much to say about the car itself but they described it as a "track-ready" model that will "broaden the Lexus brand’s high performance showroom."

If you are expecting the same performance as the E63/M5/RS6, brace yourself for disappointment.

Just be thankful Lexus is making it

I'm happy that Lexus is making it. But I see how people can be unhappy with this.

If you want a fast Lexus, this is it.

If you want something faster than its German counterparts, then this may not be it...
