Default The Five Best (Driving) Roads in America

The guide is for motorcycles, but I'm pretty sure cars can find a few twisties to drift on. Just don't hit us motorcyclists...

1) The Dragon, North Carolina
2) The Snake, Tennessee
3) Palomar Mountain Loop, (Southern) California
4) Push Mountain Road, Arkansas
5) Washington Pass, Washington

My new C7 should arrive as early as November. Might have to have a run at the 'Dragon'

Car and Driver magazine likes the roads through the Hocking Hills in Southern Ohio.

It's not necessarily the most winding road, but, for stunning scenery, this has been my personal long-time favorite for decades.....Skyline Drive, in Shenandoah National Park, through Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains.

The two-lane roads in the Texas Hill Country, in the central part of the state, are also popular with bikers and sports-car drivers. I've been to a few parts of this region myself....mainly to Garner State Park and the region just west of Austin/San Marcos

Didn't they drive that road on Top Gear (the real one, not the US version) ?

The Dragon is fun but way too crowded. I prefer the Cherhola Skyway, it's near the Dragon, fun as hell, and has a lot less cops and traffic.

^^^^^ this... I miss Texas roads, though there are some decent two laners in backwoods Missouri too, really all over, to be honest, but the hilly areas found across the nation are all pretty good...

As boring a drive as it may be, one of the funnest is I10 between San Antonio and El Paso... With speed limits at 80 mph, it is not uncommon to be able to set cruise control at 95+ and be with the flow of traffic...

Top Gear UK drove the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is also a great road to drive on.

I don't like the fact that everyone knows about the tail of the dragon now, I am dying to drive it, but I will go on a weekday to avoid the crowds..

I feel that if you find great driving road, you need to keep it secret !

All I will say is I miss driving some of the mountain roads in Virginia...

Edit, thanks for the list and the Snake looks like a must drive !

Best to take it from North to South, so that traffic doesn't block your view from the opposite side. Start in Monterey, end in Pismo Beach.

Highly suggest driving a convertible.

I've been to the Dragon twice now. Seriously an awesome road.

Skyline Drive is a Federal road through a national park, so there is a fairly low speed-limit. It's more noted for stunning scenery and overlooks, not necessarily a place where one would go to do aggressive driving or sports-car cornering at high Gs.
