I got my 2013 with the 155hp 2.0 and its a very anemic engine... feels a lot less powerful than many engine with similar power rating - but makes up for it with good fuel economy.

It was just speculation since the Mazda6 gets the 2.2 soon enough. What's the power rating on the 1.6?

With the new 3, Mazda will have a solid lineup across the board. They'll never do the volume of the big boys but their volume and profitability should improve.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for future models. Looking to go a bit bigger next time around, so I await the ms3 to add to my list. I like this new styling. (Smiley face is what turned me off for last gen ms3)

I get that everyone wants great profitability, but myself I'd rather have a steadily increasing following due to great things like dynamics, efficiency, safety, technology, design and quality that the massed produced automakers might take short cuts on, in order to boost numbers

Now, I know some people may want an automatic for the MS3 MPS..................but if Mazda doesn't come out with one, then that's fine with me.

I would personally be alright with driving this Mazda Speed 3 MPS with a SKYACTIV-MT stickshift.

From what I've read so far:
-Japan and Europe will also get a 1.5 liter Petrol/Gasoline engine (for base model)
and
-Japan gets a Petrol-Hybrid (which is surprising............because Mazda themselves stated that they wouldn't delve into hybrid cars)

@spwolf
In our case, I expect that for the Philippine market, there will be a 1.6 liter gasoline/petrol and 2.0 liter Petrol/Gasoline. If ever the 2.5 liter engine comes here, then it may arrive as a Sports version.

Not sure if we're getting the Mazda 3 MPS (or Mazdaspeed 3) locally though =(

Nevertheless, DIESEL ENGINES are currently out of the question here in the Philippines.

Mazda said that their 2.2 liter diesel engine WILL NOT WORK ON EURO-2 DIESEL FUEL (minimum requirement is EURO-IV). This however is not the fault of Mazda.........but of the Philippine government. Hence, since Euro 4 regulations will not be signed into Philippine law until year 2016, then it simply means that no Mazda 3 will get a diesel engine here..............unless maybe only after the Euro 4 law has been signed into effect in our country.

So yeah.

What's wrong with the power trains? US version gets 2.0 155hp base, 2.5 184hp, future 2.2 diesel and possible MS3 powertrain. Sounds like a good mix. Not to mention the base engine puts out more hp than Civic, Corolla ect. None of those have even optional larger engines. What needs work in your opinion?
Personally I'm not that critical or strict regarding this aspect

But for some people, they felt that the Mazda 2.0 SKYACTIV liter wasn't as strong or had a strong presence of power compared to other 2.0 liter engines in its vehicle class.

Ask anyone who's test driven the CX-5 with the 2.0 liter engine and they might say that it lacks a bit of oomph. Some went as far to label it as anemic

Hence, it was a blessing when the 2.5 liter engine was released for the CX5 (over there in America and in Australia..............as well as in the Philippines under the name CX5 SPORT AWD).

Same photo, really good chopping skills. Just about everything has been changed on the car but the photoshopper forgot to change the background (the easy part) to make it more convincing.
