China has terrible drivers in general. Dunno who's worse- china or russia.

I've seen the same in socal. The other day at Walgreens, a chinese husband and child got out of an old maxima so the wife could park it. She was very clumsy. They should have practiced in an empty parking lot. She was not ready.

Many years ago, the california DMV stopped testing parallel parking. I wish they would continue testing it, because new drivers suck these days. Parallel parking would weed out a lot of potential licensees.

THIS is how you park an RX without dying-

you can see the front wheels are slightly turned which would agree with the MSpaint artist rendition

There are terrible drivers in every race and country, not just China & Russia.

It's not necessarily that they WANT to do it. In a lot of foreign (non US countries), it is standard protocol to park with the rear in. This is usually due to the very cramped spaces/roads in those countries. In America, we are blessed with spacious land and a population that isn't too clustered. many other places are not.

As a result, with the small spaces, it is very impractical to park with the nose in. Backing out into traffic and super tight areas just is too dangerous, and serves as an impediment to oncoming traffic. Exiting with the nose, as you know, is much easier and safer.

This is probably why the lady was having her husband teach her how to park with the rear. She needs to learn that very early on in order to be a driver. Unfortunately for them, it went horribly wrong.

Thanks
That does clarify it. I didn't even pay attention to how the wheels are turned do the turn and reverse in. I thought she just backed straight in.

Were there any follow up to this story-not like it matters much

Sad that we even feel the need to assign blame (or worse, a Darwinian award) for such a tragic accident, one that a 6-year-old witnessed.

Again, at the risk of sounding tasteless, "Darwin award" doesn't apply in this case because they've already procreated.
