First Drive: 2014 Kia Cadenza

I guess 25k is too low. more like 29k ?
it's equivalent to a well equipped honda accord, altima, fusion. It really doesn't feel any more luxurious or more grand than it's own optima. It feels the same. It feels flimsy. thin metal feel. The doors feel hallow. all the panels feel like a little 12 year old girl can punch it in and cause a big ding. weak and cheap.
there is no real authentic feel of a mid to full size luxury car.
In fact, I think they made it look worse now that they face lifted the front end. The former cadenza in korea before they facelifted the front looks so much better and more upscale. Now it just looks cheaper.

A fully loaded Lexus ES350 can brush $50,000. So I think the Cadenza is positioned right where it should be.
I think you need to re-check what the market is like. hlee12 is exactly right in that $40K is the new $30K
Avg transaction price on a new car in the U.S. last year was over $30,000.
This car has plenty of content to justify a premium over the standard midsize set.

Funny you mention that. I sat in one last year just to get a feel for the car, the materials, etc. Now I had just gotten out of my '99 LS400 and all I kept thinking while sitting inside the Azera was "cheap, cheap, cheap". Everything felt thin and flimsy. Now of course they're a different class of cars and the LS400 is probably one of the highest quality cars ever built, so maybe it wasn't fair of me to judge. But it was just a real eye-opener on how my 14 year old Lexus used such higher quality materials than this shiny new car that cost 3 times as much.
From 2007 both Lexus & Toyota switched to lower cost parts. Look at the interior quality difference from the 5th gen Camry to the 7th gen. Night & day
Look at the transition from ES330 to ES350, look at the RX330 to RX350. All a major downgrade in material quality.
1992 SC400/Soarer above. They don't do it like that anymore

toyota's & Lexus of the 90's till about 2005 had very high quality interior. Thickly moulded plastic, plush velour carpet, high density roof liner and everything was substantial. They never wear out.

Not sure what your getting at since you pretty much just supported my side of the argument.
I'd rather buy a full fully loaded accord for 33k than a base Cadenza at 38k. what the base ? 38k? 40k? Whatever. I'd rather have a accord for 33k fully loaded than a base cadenza at 33k.
the luxury midsize segment is already a gimmick, the cadenza doesn't make a good case to make u believe in it.
The lexus ES is a gimmick of the camry, but it does a good job making you believe it. The cadenza IMO, is not convincing.

Fully loaded Honda Accord costs $33,500. Fusion would be ~$35,000.

an ES is SO much nicer than a camry in every way.
i ignore all discussions of 'platform sharing' because the topic is meaningless these days. car companies share all kinds of bit (small and large) across vehicles.

they share the same platform and it convinced you so I have proved my point. All you need now is to stick a "tiesto" sticker on the back on the car and your all set. Now your in the "in" crowd.
you're entitled to your opinion of course, but i think you lost some credibility with that statement.

The "base" Cadenza is actually better equipped than the Accord Touring. It is very close to the ES350 Premium equipment at about $5000 less. The loaded Cadenza is similar to the ES350 UL and is more than $6000 less. Performance, ride, noise, and interior quality are close to the ES. You might want a premium name on your car, but the Cadenza matches the ES in content. It is not a competitor for the Fusion, Accord, or Camry. With real concerns about resale, it is probably a candidate for a lease rather than purchase.
