Lexus LFA owner gets town to remove speed bump

What do you do if you have enough money to buy a Lexus LFA but can't get the car safely to your house? Get local government involved, of course. Rune Berge Vik, of Stavanger, Norway, did just that after he bought a Lexus LFA (the only LFA in the Nordic region according to tv2.no) last year only to find out that it could not clear a speed bump in his neighborhood.

To remedy the situation, Vik got in touch with his city, which had the speed bump removed. Talk about your tax dollars hard at work. On the other hand, it's commendable that the man actually uses his supercar as a daily driver, and besides, doesn't a street-legal car have the right to access said public streets?

what a great story. I doubt they would do anything for him if he was in the states. This is why most exotics have the leveler that can raise the front end for speed bumps. I guess Lexus was thinking about the added weight. LOL..I guess they were thinking of weight when they decided not to put an ipod adapter in it as well

There is a USB dock in the LFA glove compartment that works just like the USB port on every other Lexus vehicle. Clarkson/Top Gear was wrong on that point.

Funny enough Larry Ellison of Oracle removed the speed bumps from HQ because he damaged the speed the front end of his white LFA. I've actually seen him driving on I880

he did that? that's funny.

hard to imagine the lfa having less clearance than some of his other exotics. but then again this is probably the only exotic he can daily

kudos to this owner to drive his car daily too

Ah I see.

Speaking of Top Gear, I remember the scene where Jeremy Clarkson couldn't find a cupholder inside the LFA where he could place his coffee drink.

In response, he just decided to get some duct tape and stick his coffee container in the steering wheel

Hilarious

Anyways, on a serious point:
Couldn't he just drive extremely slow when approaching the hump?

Just asking =)

P.S.

WOW

Indeed, money can apparently do a lot things (at least with regards to that guy)

the cup holder is true, there is none.

i had the lfa for almost a week, i had no problem driving it anywhere and didn't scrape it at all. just need to be careful and go at angles.

compared to some of my cars, which are far lower, the lfa is totally fine.

It's not about speed, but distance between the bottom of the car & the ground. If the speed bump is 4", & the car only sits 3" from the ground, you'll scrape up the underside/damage bumper covers no matter how slow you go.

In this case, money obviously talked, but not everyone has that kind of influence. Car-owners who are so planning to customize their machines with a drop in ride-height (or buy something that rides only a couple inches off the ground) sometimes need to think twice before they do it.....I've said that many times.
