Default Porsche 918 Spyder has Bugatti-Beating Acceleration

The Porsche 918 Spyder could be the quickest accelerating car in the world.

In recent testing conducted by Car & Driver, the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder went 0-60 in just 2.2 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster than the Bugatti Veyron 16.4. According to the publication, the 918 Spyder also ran the quarter mile in 9.8 seconds and is the quickest-accelerating production car it has ever tested.

Built from the ground up to be a revolutionary supercar, the Porsche 918 Spyder is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 engine cranking 608 hp connected to a pair of electric motors for a combined system output of 887 hp.

Default Porsche 918 Spyder tuned by Oakley Design to 950 PS spotted in London [video]

Belongs to a customer from Kuwait

A Porsche 918 Spyder upgraded by Oakley Design was filmed on the streets of London.

About a month ago we found out Edo Competition will take a stab at modifying the Porsche 918 Spyder but apparently the first tuner to customize the latest supercar from Stuttgart is Oakley Design. Seen here is a stock-looking 918 Spyder owned by a customer from Kuwait who wasn't satisfied with the vehicle's standard 887 PS (661 kW) output.

He asked Oakley Design to squeeze more power and so they did as the Porsche 918 Spyder featured in this clip from London generates 950 PS (699 kW). Details about how the added horsepower was obtained is not available but most likely the tuner tweaked the naturally-aspirated V8 4.6-liter engine and increased its output from 608 PS (447 kW) to 671 PS (493 kW) since there isn’t much wiggle room in those two electric motors which together offer 286 PS (210 kW).

Five minutes after receiving his car, the owner embarked on a road trip to Paris with the fastest series production car with global road homologation around the Nürburgring.

Tassels on the side view mirrors joking......
Yes but trying to find that 1/2 % in the world who could understand, modify and execute correctly what Porsche engineers did and who are undeniably the best at what they do would be tough. Very tough.

Hotel staff tries and fails to insert voluminous bag inside Porsche 918 Spyder's tiny trunk [video]

Talk about first world problems

A bulky travel bag was just too big to fit inside the Porsche 918 Spyder’s petite trunk, despite consistent efforts from hotel staff.

Common sense tells us supercars are among the least practical vehicles out there so those who want to carry more voluminous cargo should look elsewhere. The 918 Spyder was designed to be one of the quickest cars ever made so trunk capacity wasn't on the priority list for Porsche's engineers during development. With a 4.76 cubic feet (135 liters) capacity, the trunk's size matches the Porsche 911's and it's far from being very useful.

The hotel staff learned this the hard way as they tried for a couple of minutes to squeeze in a sizeable travel bag inside the supercar's small cargo area. In the end they gave up and the two ladies probably removed some of the items and put them in a different, smaller red bag which luckily was small enough to fit in.

I was just reading Road and Track, the 918 was the quickest of the 3 ultra hybrid supercars for 0-60 and 0-124 which I find odd after reading many reviewers seem to knock the Porsche for its power and performance compared to the P1 and La Ferrari. It is quicker then both and costs over 200K less yet it does not seem to get the same respect as the other 2. I am still waiting for a comparison test of all 3.

I honestly love all three for their similarities and differences. The 918 from what I've seen is the most dailyable which I find very appealing. I don't think you can go wrong with any though

Default Testing Porsche 918 Spyder's All-Electric Driving Range in Manhattan

The Porsche 918 Spyder may be one of the fastest, most powerful hypercars in the world, but the truth is, there’s also a green side to it.

For short distances of up to 12 miles (19 kilometers), the car can travel on electric power alone, and the folks from Drive wanted to verify Porsche’s claim. To do that, they drove a 918 Spyder from the northernmost tip of Manhattan island to its southernmost tip, on a route that’s about 12 miles long.

The Porsche’s two electric motors, located one on each axle, draw energy from a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery. In all-electric mode, the 918 Spyder is still reasonably fast, sprinting from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in under 7 seconds and reaching a top speed of up to 93 mph (150km/h).

However, in the test you are about to watch the 918 Spyder was not pushed above 32 mph (51 km/h) so that it didn’t run out of juice too early. Scroll down to see if Porsche’s hypercar made it to the finish line.

Default Porsche 918 Spyder Destroyed by Fire at Toronto Gas Station

The sad reality is that sometimes supercars (mostly Ferraris) catch fire, but seeing a Porsche 918 Spyder engulfed in flames is a really painful sight.

To our knowledge, this is the first incident of this kind that involves a Porsche 918 Spyder - the fastest, most powerful and most expensive car in the German automaker’s lineup. The incident happened at a gas station from Toronto, Canada, but it is not clear if the source of the fire was the car itself or a malfunction at the pump.

Either way, the car appears to be completely toast. Scroll down to watch a video taken by people who were passing by the gas station as the Porsche 918 Spyder was swallowed by huge flames.
