Default Chevrolet Chevelle

Chevrolet has stated they would like to build a lightweight, rear-wheel drive, affordable sports car...and rumors are swirling that they might bring back the Chevelle name for it.
This came from the Chevy Exchange facebook page. I thought GM already made a Scion FRS, Ford Mustang, Hyundai Genesis competitor called the Chevrolet Camaro.

Look at that roofline. A perfect car for Hornswoggle.

Just a render. Doesn't mean anything. GM is only toying with the idea of a lightweight RWD sports car at this time

Would be a miracle if GM could design a new sports coupe WITHOUT retro styling or name. Until they orchestrate such a thing and step into modern times with the imports, there will be more rebates and discontinued models. Retro happens when you are out of the loop and don't have the competence to design and invent. Just keeps happening with certain companies.

GM has such a storied history, it would be dumb if they didn't dig ino their past. And what sports cars from GM are retro styled? The Camaro is the least retro of the pony cars, compared to the Mustang and the Challenger. Don't even talk about the Vette cause there is nothing retro there.

Many companies pull from their past. MB is reviving the Pullman name. BMW has looked to the M1 for inspiration and even considered reviving the car. The jaguar F-type is counting on the heritage of the E-type. And the most retro of them all, the porsche 911.

The Chevelle nameplate deserved a chance to be reborn. They just need to do it right. A smaller, lighter, cheaper Camaro sounds good to me.
