From my memories, the options pretty much apply to all variants.
ummm, no, for track focused models, they want you to have alcantara which will hold your butt in place better so you won't slide around, so no fancy "natural" leather options available which are more expensive.
Also, a couple of the most expensive fancy paints will likely not be offered if Cayman GT4 vs. GTS scenerio holds for the 911.That's just 2 obvious examples, there should be more ......

..There will be a GT2, don't believe the BS you read on the internet Ferrari officially announced they had no plan to build the 458 Speciale and Speciale Aperta also .
I actually have not read anything like that regarding a GT2, just that I will not assume there will be one unless officially announced.

I guess middle of the range is kind of harsh, but on the 997, comparably equipped, the GT3 RS, GT3 RS 4.0, GT2, GT2 RS are all quite a bit more expensive then the Turbo S.

Now that I think about it more, things haven't change. When the 930 Turbo came out, that was the top model. The Turbo S is still the top model now in the Carrera series. The GT series is just a separate more exotic line.

So my point still stand, if the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 and 991 GT3 RS have a 4.0L, it doesn't mean the Turbo S should or would have it.

It is base on application anyway, on the 997.2, where the Turbo got the new 3.8L but the more exotic GT2 and GT2 RS still got the old 3.6L running a whole lot of boost.

Sure they think you should have alcantara and that's how it should be, but if you want the fancy "natural" leather options available to other model, they can surely make whatever you want with their "exclusive" program. I remember I sat in a 997.2 GT3 RS that is highly customized by "exclusive" in a showroom with racing bucket seat and a roll cage that have very soft leather, the sticker was like $190k with $50k of options. I kept pointing out options that I didn't know is available on the GT3 RS, the salesman told me they can build whatever I want as long as is on the part's bin. They probably won't do snake skin though, Rolls Royce would

Is just not on the regular menu, it can be arranged. I remember reading there is a green color on the 997.1 GT3 RS that is not on the regular menu of the 997.2 GT3 RS, guess what, there are a few 997.2 have that green from the factory, just have to ask and pay, paint is easy. Even BMW do that with their individual program, they would paint a giant 760iL in that M3 fire orange if you pay. They would advise against it, but they would do it.

There was rumor that the GT3 RS is turbo'd so there won't be a GT2. Tradition usually continue and doesn't change for many generations.

.
Yes, it's like saying a S600 is middle of the range of all S class models .
Those owners that's willing to pay extra with their exclusive program to get their track focused cars comparably equipped with the Turbo S are kinda funny don't you think ?
Porsche try to strip down the car to make it lighter and more track focused, and the buyer want to add back all these unneeded stuff for a track car and give it extra weight.
...

Well, things are going to change, Porsche has strongly suggested that the next generation 911 would have hybrid models, could even be the top models.....

Default Porsche 911 Turbo S goes up in flames

A Porsche 911 Turbo S has burst into flames in a Costco parking lot not far from the offices of Hot Rod Magazine.

Details are limited but the video was shot by Robert Radke who says the car started smoked and then became engulfed in flames.

As a refresher, the 911 Turbo S has a turbocharged 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 560 PS (412 kW) and up to 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque with overboost. It is connected to a 7-speed PDK transmission and an all-wheel drive system which enables the coupe to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in as little as 3.1 seconds before hitting a top speed of 318 km/h (197 mph).

Default New 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Photos Leaked!

We just got an early look at Porsche's hardcore 911 GT3 RS ahead of its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, courtesy of a set of leaked pictures on the web.

The new model is believed to feature a newly developed 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six capable of delivering 500PS (493hp) and 460Nm (340 lb.-ft.) of peak torque, an increase of 25PS (25hp) and 20Nm (15 lb.-ft.) over the standard GT3.

Porsche has also tweaked the chassis, reduced the weight by around 10kg or 22 pounds and improved the GT3 RS' aerodynamics, with the car said to hit 100km/h (62mph) in 3.3 seconds, 193 km/h (120mph) in 10.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 320km/h (198mph).

This hasn't been confirmed, but Die Welt reported that it will cost 181,690 Euros in Germany.

0-62mph in 3.3 seconds is rather insane given the fact that it's RWD.

Default Porsche 911 GT3 RS unleashed in Geneva with 500 HP

Weighs 1,420 kg

Porsche has finally revealed the much awaited 911 GT3 RS at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

It gets an aluminum body combined with a magnesium roof and carbon fiber reinforced plastic hood and engine lid as well as other lightweight components that have shaved off 10 kg compared to the regular 911 GT3 which means the RS version tips the scales at 1,420 kg (3,130 lbs). The engine lid has gained extra cooling elements as well as a built-in ducktail spoiler to boost downforce at higher speeds. Also noticeable are the updated front wings with air ducts, a prominent splitter and a big wing at the back.

Power comes from a newly developed flat-six 4.0-liter naturally aspirated engine developing 500 HP (368 kW) and 460 Nm (340 lb-ft) which enables the 911 GT3 RS to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.3 seconds and 124 mph (200 km/h) in 10.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of more than 200 mph (322 km/h).

The engine's power is channeled to the rear axle via a revised 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and a fully variable locking differential benefiting from torque vectoring.

The interior cabin adopts a familiar look but with a white rev counter, body-colored upholstery and stitching, three-spoke steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara and some carbon fiber inserts on the dashboard and door panels.

Capable of lapping the Nürburgring in 7 minutes and 20 seconds, the new 911 GT3 RS is scheduled to go on sale in a few months and it will carry a starting price of £131,296 in UK and €181,690 in Germany.

Default Porsche's New 911 GT3 RS Is The Fastest 911 Ever Around The 'Ring

Click here to view more photos

Five seconds isn't a long time in everyday chores, but it's an eternity on the track, so you'll excuse our enthusiasm after learning that the new 911 GT3 RS is 5 seconds faster than the 911 GT3 around the 'Ring!

With a Porsche-official lap time of 7 minutes and 20 seconds around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the just introduced 911 GT3 RS is not only faster than the plain GT3, but it's the fastest-ever production 911 beating the 997-generation GT2 RS by four seconds.

It's essentially a track-racer for the road taking all the best bits of the 911 GT3 to the next level. The RS is 10kg (22 pounds) lighter than the GT3, and at the same time, has 25hp and 81Nm (60 lb ft) more power from its bigger displacement 4.0-liter atmospheric flat-six that churns out 493hp (500PS) and 460Nm (338lb.ft) of torque.

A specially developed seven-speed dual-clutch transmission transfers power to the rear wheels, with Stuttgart quoting a 0-60mph time of 3.1 seconds (0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds) and a 1/4 mile run in 11.2 seconds.

It’s already available for order at a price of $175,900, not including a $995 destination charge, with the U.S. launch scheduled for early July.

The most hardcore 911 ever to be created has arrived. With more power than ever before and a blistering ‘ring time already under its belt, the 991 GT3 RS is going to be ‘up there’ for many people.
