The most important characteristics of the interior: never frivolous, always direct. Clever technology, clear operating logic. Focused precisely on the benchmark for all of our considerations: the driver.

Default Porsche 911 GT3 Customer Likes to Word Play

If you order yourself a Porsche 911 GT3, then hey, we're envious! If you get it with customized door sills that say "Kills Bugs Fast", well then, you definitely know your automotive history.

Back in the mid 90s, Porsche put out an ad campaign to help introduce their 993 Turbo, using the same catchphrase. So it's obvious that the man who ordered his 911 GT3 with the same catchphrase engraved in the illuminated door sills either had one of those older models or always wanted to get one at the time and fell in love with the idea of putting those pesky insects out of their misery via high tech German engineering.

The order was placed at Porsche Exchange, a dealer in Illinois, and we look forward to more Porsche customers getting creative with customizing their cars.

Default Porsche shows off test facility for 911 GT3 [video]

Starts at €137,303 in Germany

Porsche has released a new video showcasing what's going on in the test facility of the 911 GT3 (991).

Earlier this week we saw how the 918 Spyder comes to life and now Porsche is providing a glimpse of the test facility for one of their lesser models, the 911 GT3 priced in Germany from €137,303. The magic happens on the assembly line in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen for a model which ran into some serious issues during its first months on the market, prompting Porsche to recall all cars in March last year (785 units at that time) and replace their engines due to some issues with the connecting rod fasteners.

Speaking of the engine, the latest Porsche 911 GT3 comes with a 6-cylinder 3.8-liter boxer engine pushing out 475 HP (349 kW) and 438 Nm (324 lb-ft). The rear wheels (which also steer) receive power from a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox and allow the model hit 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in three and a half seconds before topping out at 195 mph (315 km/h).

A more hardcore 911 GT3 RS version is during the final stages of development and could be introduced as early as March at the Geneva Motor Show.

Default Watch Master Technicians Assemble The Iconic Porsche 911 Engine

There is no substitute for a Porsche and now you know why. The Cars YouTube channel shared a wonderfully hypnotic video featuring the assembly of the heart of the Porsche 911-- the thumping boxer-6 engine.

The process is a mix of cutting edge and old tradition as high grade metals and components are being put together under the care of highly skilled technicians. Apparently, the human touch is still necessary when it comes to building the most famous power unit from Porsche.

The 6-minute video highlights everything from piston installation, crankshaft assembly, to torquing the bolts to specification.

The Porsche 911 engine assembly video is a celebration of precision. For the Porschephiles and engine nerds, this video is pure mechanical pornography.

i know most get a warm feeling about 'old tradition', and there's much respect for 'highly skilled technicians' (deservedly so!) but the reality is almost all of them will be replaced by robots in the future and would have already been were all the robot programming in place. in time, it will be IMPOSSIBLE for a human to create an engine as complex as robots will.

robots can work 24x7x365, don't form unions, don't need bathroom and other breaks, and can do work pretty much 100% consistently. obviously there will be robot technicians to deal with any issues that come up, but it's only a matter of time.

Default Porsche 911 GT3 RS photographed without any disguise

To remain naturally aspirated

Instagram user johan9ff has published very revealing images of the upcoming 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

These are by far the most revealing images of the still unreleased 911 GT3 RS which despite the familiar styling it comes with a wider body featuring a large fixed rear wing, ventilated front fenders, double bubble roof along with carbon fiber front & rear spoiler lips.

According to the latest gossip, the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS will have a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter engine outputting 500 bhp (373 kW) transferred to the wheels exclusively via a PDK transmission. It will ride on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels and is set to receive a Java Orange launch color along with a pit lane function electronically limiting speed while in the pit lane.

The model should complete a Nürburgring lap in less than seven and a half minutes but it is believed Porsche's test drivers have already accomplished a 7:10 lap.

A full reveal is expected to occur in early March at the Geneva Motor Show.

With the 911 Turbo models, our engineers have pushed forward into the extreme performance range. But not at any price. It intelligently takes responsibility – with a high level of safety for driver and passenger and excellent efficiency values for the environment.

Robots while great are also not perfect... also, they are expensive... for instance, Renault re-launched its big hit in Europe - Dacia brand with robots replaced with cheap workforce that lets them price vehicles at lowest prices in Europe. I found that pretty curious, because I thought robots would be cheaper - apparently they are more expensive but in most situations provide greater quality.

This is probably why it is not worth it for them to get robots for very complicated yet low numbers for some engines.

true, and true.

renault may have also been given huge govt incentives to hire people (vs. machines) making it even more attractive, but still, the trends are inevitable.

agreed, but computers used to cost millions too! with 3d printing in its infancy, how long before robots built (and design) new robots?

Default Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS World Premiere at 2015 NAIAS

The 911 Coupe and Convertible have already received the GTS treatment, so Porsche decided that it was time for the Targa to get its own sportier variant, too.

The 911 Targa 4 GTS, which made its world debut today at the North American International Auto Show, is aimed at customers who would like more performance and better handling from their 911 but are not willing to make the compromises that the hardcore GT3, that is available only as a Coupe anyway, demands of them.

Like the Coupe and Convertible, the Targa 4 GTS comes with a 30hp increase, the 3.8 flat-six pumping out 424hp (430PS). The 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint takes just 4.3 seconds with the PDK dual-clutch gearbox and at the same time the fuel consumption, which ranges from 9.2 to 10.0 lt/km (depending on transmission) is the same as the Targa 4S.

The GTS version of the Targa comes with the Sport Chrono package, PASM chassis, sport exhaust system and 20-inch Turbo S black wheels with central lock as standard. Other features that make it stand out from lesser models include an opening for the auxiliary middle radiator, smoked bi-xenon headlights, new door mirrors, black accents on the model logo, chrome tailpipes and GTS logos on the doors.

In the interior, there are Sport Plus Seats with GTS logo on the headrests, black Alcantara trim and the stopwatch that comes standard with the Sport Chrono package.

Porsche says the Targa GTS is only available in all-wheel drive (hence the “4” designation) because the rear wheel arches are 22 mm wider than the rear-wheel drive version’s.

The 911 Targa 4 GTS will be launched in Germany in mid-March, with a starting price of €137,422 including taxes. There is no word yet for the North American launch and pricing.

Default Porsche 911 GT3 Shows Up in Latest HRE Wheels Photoshoot

Click here to view more photos

Not that anybody is complaining, but HRE Wheels are starting to spoil us with all these cool pics they're taking during their photo shoots. Yesterday there was the 918 Spyder and today we have a pair of track-ready 911 GT3's.

Feel free to pick your favorite, orange or blue? The Mexico Blue GT3 is featured more heavily and we can clearly see why. It sits on custom HRE Classic 300 wheels finished in brushed silver, measuring 21x9.5 at the front and 21x12.5 at the rear. They also have black center caps and yellow calipers and are made from aerospace-grade 6061-T6 forged aluminum for high strength-to-weight ratio.

Sounds cool as hell and so is the GT3. This is a race-bred 474 HP beast, breathing fire through a 3.8 liter direct fuel injected flat six engine. It will give you maximum output as high as 8.250rpm, it can accelerate from 0-62 mph (100km/h) in just 3.5 seconds and is claimed to be able to reach 124 mph (200km/h) in less than 12 seconds.

The Porsche 911 GT3 also holds a Nürburgring-Nordschleife time of just 7:25 minutes. When your stats are this good, we're inclined to forgive that old engine failure recall scandal where 785 GT3s had to be fitted with new engines. The owners even got an extra year of warranty out of it so we're guessing they're ok with it.

Besides, this isn't your everyday entry level 911 Carrera. The GT3 is the type of car that will smack you up upside the head and yell at you for driving like you don't know what you're doing. It's a truly special machine and without a doubt, one of the best performance cars to ever come out of Germany.

Default Porsche confirms an all-new engine for 911 GT3 RS

To be available only with a PDK gearbox

During the 2015 NAIAS in Detroit, Porsche has confirmed the highly anticipated 911 GT3 RS will receive a new engine.

Speaking to AutoExpress during the show, Porsche R&D boss Wolfgang Hatz disclosed the model will be powered by a completely new naturally aspirated six-cylinder unit. This powerplant will eventually make its way into other models of the German brand. According to latest rumors, the engine in question is a 4.0-liter unit, generating 500 bhp (373 kW).

Hatz also confirmed at launch the sports machine will be available only with a PDK automatic transmission, while a manual option hasn’t been ruled out for the coming years. He hinted the GT3 RS version will be a much more extreme compared to the GT3. ”Performance has to be the main objective. Customers love the current GT3. The RS has to be the peak. The 991 GT3 was very much a surprise for everybody because it’s a very useable car for every day. The GT3 RS will be more extreme.”
