Default Akio Toyoda making special announcement: confirmed to build ES350 in Kentucky, USA

New York, NY, April 17, 2013 – Toyota’s global president and other senior executives will make a special announcement.
April 19th, 6:30 AM PDT.

http://pressroom.toyota.com/releases...?view_id=27469

Guesses? Apperantly, Kentucky offered Toyota 150 million to expand plant there for another 50k in yearly production:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-0...expansion.html

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority today approved the package, based on Toyota enlarging its auto- assembly factory in Georgetown by 2015 to produce an additional model. The Toyota City, Japan-based company would have to invest $531.2 million and add 570 full-time jobs to receive the full value of the credits, the agency said in an e-mailed statement.

So maybe ES350 production moves there?

Lexus says they have some event planned in NY on Friday. I'll bet ES production is moving to Georgetown and an extra 50K in production sounds about right.

Scheduled speakers are Akio Toyoda and Jim Lentz. No mention of Lexus in there so this probably will be 'Toyota' related more than likely.

I'm pretty confident in the ES moving there and it makes sense being in the Camry plant and the 50K number sounds about right for ES yearly sales. A much lesser possibility is moving some Prius production here. Not to mention the yen/dollar exchange rate, while better than it has been in years, is still bad.

The fact that Lexus has their own little event scheduled in NY the same day about their future can't be a coincidence.

I find it hard to believe they'd be moving ES production to Georgetown. I think this is something else.

Solara or ES, I dont have anything else... anyway, 50k alone is too small for ES, but maybe they have some other capacity there left that they can utilize.

Well I think if it is ES production they start small. The RX plant supplemented the Japan plant and expanded to produce more.

It would only make sense since the ES is sold pretty much only in the states and China, maybe a couple other markets. The TL has been made here since 1999 and people don't seem to care a bit or know its made in Ohio.

some news reports now say it is first lexus in USA, so it has to be ES... probably ES350 while ES300h will continue to be made in Japan. Then some 50k sounds right, and they can probably do 3rd shift if there is extra demand...

I agree the ES300h like the RX450h will be made in Japan.
However, there's talk of the RX450h being made in Canada soon.

The ES is in fact moving to the USA. I have said this in past posts.

This is why the Avalon and ES share platforms.
