BMW offers M Performance Power Kit for 2012 335i sedan
BMW has let loose a new M Performance Power Kit for its F30-generation 335i and 335i xDrive sedans. Starting at $1,100 for the kit – installation is extra – your car will be fitted with a new ECU and air intake on the functional side and an M Performance engine cover and rocker panel stickers on the decorative side. The Power Kit raises the 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder's horsepower rating from 300 to 320, and on automatic models, torque gets a boost from 300 pound-feet to 332 lb-ft – manual transmission models get a smaller bump to 317 lb-ft.
According to the Bavarian automaker, you'll be able to hear the change in the overrun exhaust note, and 0-60 mile-per-hour times drop by 0.2 seconds. The package is available now at all BMW Centers in the US, and if you get it installed when you purchase the car new, it will get the same four-year, 50,000-mile warranty as the vehicle. Have it done after the fact and the kit will be warranted for two years and unlimited miles

Seeing as aftermarket ECU tunes are often $1200 or more just for the flash with just a 1 year warranty on the tune itself, $1100 for a factory tune that falls under the manufacturer's warranty, a new intake and some cosmetic bits is not bad at all....

I don't buy it. I don't want dealer-installed anything, much less performance. 2-3% increase on MSRP (after factoring in installation) for a meager 6% jump in hp seems like a hard bargain - I doubt the vast, vast majority of drivers would even notice the difference.
Rather than say that F-Sport should follow suit, I'm of the opinion that garbage like this cheapens the M brand. Just as F-Sport cheapens Lexus' F brand.
Of course, the difference is that the aftermarket ECU tunes get anywhere from 60-100hp rather than the meager 20hp from the factory package. Who knows how much they'll charge for installation, either.

in europe you can buy any BMW, even 316i with M-look pack or Audi A4 with 120hp and "S-line", so whats the difference? If F-Sport wasnt available for CTh, then everyone would moan about it like they moan about IS300h right now :-)

p.s. Toyota Europe had tuning chips sold as official accessory, but they stopped selling them after a while because a lot of owners (of any brand using chips), started getting failures after 100k miles .-)

As usual BMW continues to be the clear leader in the sports luxury segment.
Toyota's priority on factory performance modifications is really baffling sometimes. They offer supecharger options for their trucks, but not for their supposed luxury sport segment? What gives?
