Nice interesting fun fact.
The 8 speed autobox in the top of the line CTS V-Sport is a modified version of the gearbox of the IS-F made by Toyota's in-house subsidiary Aisin.
Well at least we now know the gearbox will be reliable...

I want to like it.
But something about that front end leaves me cold, and unemotional.
I still see my Dad driving it and not me.
Nice engine choices, and likely a solid suspension setup. Interior looks pretty nice too. But I am not quite ready for a Caddy.
But that CTS-V is/was just badass.....that's still the only Caddy I would want. It has to be over-the-top. LOL

The 2014 Cadillac CTS is beautiful to behold. And now that it is a midsized car, it receives a midsized price:$46,025 for a base car or $59,995 for the 420 horsepower Vsport. Not too shabby.
Yes, that is a good chunk more expensive than the current car, but the new CTS has grown up in many ways. Instead of being somewhere between a 3 and 5 series BMW, the CTS has gone full 5 series. It also undercuts the price of the 5er by $1,000 for a base car and by $3,000 when you compare the 550i to the CTS Vsport.
The car will be offered with a choice of three engines, which includes the 3.6 liter V6 from the current CTS, the now familiar 2.0 turbo four from the ATS, and the brand new 3.6 liter twin turbo V6 that will be in the top of the line Vsport.
You'll be able to get your Caddy in either rear or all-wheel drive. The Vsport will be rear-wheel drive only and have magnetic ride control, which V-Series fans will be familiar with, as well as a track mode. Presumably because people love to track their midsized Cadillacs.
The CTS goes on sale this fall.

With that price, it's official. GM has embarked on a task few other manufacturers have tried. Take a model and completely move it into a different class. This has got to be one of the riskiest (and irresponsible) moves one can make. I can hear the average showroom gawker now saying, "Wow, nice CTS, but at that price..." The problem is it's still a CTS! People will have the last fifteen years of $30-35k in their head. We are a numbers society.
I wish GM luck. If only they had the talent and foresight to make a proper SLS/STS, none of this silly marketing movement would have been necessary.

I don't disagree that Lexus is not doing much right now but reliability trumps all to me.
I've had a serious distaste in my mouth for BMW based on more than one ex who had 3/5/M cars and I (every year without exception) spent 2-3 times (each) shuttling them because they were all in the shop. Cheapest bill was $800. So that happened 2-3 times a year each. I respect and like what the M3 can do but I'll never buy a BMW again.
If you go browse CTS forums, those cars are far from problem-free like the IS-F is (mostly). For a CTS-Vsport to be $60k vs the admitedly stagnant IS-F at $61k...to me that is still a no-contest. I don't know any other 400hp car around $60k that is as reliable as the F.

I don't know if you can say Lexus isn't doing much. They've released two new sport sedans that have gone from last to first place in comparisons with all their german competitors, and have revamped nearly their entire line in the past 18 months. No new powerplants, but if they're focusing on chassis it seems to be working.
