542-HP Jaguar XJR to debut at New York Auto Show

Jaguar has just announced that a higher-than-ever performance version of its XJ flagship will be coming to this year's New York Auto Show next week. Joining the company's R lineup is this XJR, which will boast a stonking 542 horsepower from its supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine.

Though details about the new XJ are pretty slim – you can read Jag's teaser of a press release – we are told that the car will ride on a "bespoke chassis" and that some aerodynamics work has been done, as well. The one sultry image we have of the car shows a set of trim-specific wheels, lower sills and unique badging on the front grille.

The new XJR would seem to slot above the current top-dog XJ, the XJ Supersport. With a bump up of 32 hp versus the Supersport, performance should get a meaningful shot in the arm, as well. As for pricing, we'll have to wait for the NYC show to be sure. But other Jaguar models show an increase of between 15- and 20-percent between the R model and the next one down; that would indicate a price tag in the $130k range for a standard wheelbase XJR is in order.

Some of the better news I've heard all day!!

Jaguar now has an R flagship, as does MBZ and the S-Class AMGs.

Funny BMW, where is your M7 now. Audi your RS8? Lexus.... no reason to NOT offer a LS-F now.. (speaking of which you already have one with the TMG LS..)

I agree somewhat. Remember the Alpina B7 is offered and there has yet to be any large car that can keep up with the 3.5 second 0-60 Audi S8 outside of the more expensive Porsche Panamera Turbo S. I wish Lexus would create a force induced V8.

All the new jags are super sexy in design. Really would consider a jaguar when i cross shop them with the germans now; reliability on all these cars are equally horrible so it just really comes down to styling IMO.

In all due time. Lexus barely got the IS-F out the door, i would imagine the GS-F to come before the LS-F

MUST NOT FAAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!

Seriously, this is the hottest premium flagship vehicle that Jaguar has ever made and my golly, it looks ABSOLUTELY STUNNING.

PREMIUM PERFORMANCE PERFECTION

Good Lord, how I wish I had the money to be able to buy and own something as epic as this.

P.S.
Guys, you wouldn't believe how many times I was tapping the bedroom table each time I see that pic of this all-new XJR

Simply Stunning and indeed work of art combining the best of premium luxury and dynamic performance. No words can describe how epic and brilliant this vehicle is

Awesome!! For me, Jag's R models are an easy pick over AMG, M and Audi's S/RS. They just seem to be doing things right lately...

Damn....

Love the newer generation Jaguars.

Let us again hope Lexus can come up with something that can complete with these boosted German sport sedans.

It's more than the 32hp. It's the improved driving characteristics that benefits R models, not to mention the badge itself carries a banner for the car and brand.
