This is incorrect. While the styling is evolutionary and conservative, this is an all new platform. It's quite like Volkswagen/Audi's flexible platform, and will reach all the way down to the C-class.

Exterior is sharp and does not look overstyled like other recent Mercedes...I like it a lot.
The detailing and materials used on the interior are gorgeous, but I do not care much for the design and do not see it aging well in 5, 10, 15 years.
The comment above about the LS having nothing on this S class, to each his own. Have you sat in the 2013 LS? I had the opportunity to do it this weekend and that interior is pretty remarkable - one of the very finest in the industry, at any price point. The S got a more dramatic refresh than the LS did, but I believe that this is indeed still a heavy refresh.

Im not bashing the LS by any means, I would purchase one in a heartbeAT IF I had $100,000.000 for a loaded LS 460 LWB RWD Executive Class seating package Geez thats alot of zeros

I like the back but I kind of like the fenders of the current S class better, this one looks a little more conservative to me. I also think LEDs are getting played out and getting more and more ridiculous even though I know they are supposed to be there for safety reasons too. The interior, however, looks amazing.

MB's interior lighting is very nice, but the LS seems to take the cake for me.

The 2014 S does look like a heavy refresh to me as well. I was a little bit disappointed when Lexus did it in 2012. Since Merc is following suit, I guess it will be 50 years until we see something that qualifies as a "new" design. Lol, just kidding. Those DRL LEDs look like a Chrysler 200.........
Attention luxury makes: the name of the game is, refresh.

Mercedes brought it with the S-class. To be honest the S and LS are the trendsetters in this class. The 7 series is a great drivers car, but doesn't really bring anything new like the S and LS. The introduction of the LS in 2006 was huge as the first flagship with a hybrid engine, 8-speed automatic, and LED headlights. Now the S has stepped it up again and I feel like Lexus was very smart in having an extensive refresh of the LS, delaying the intro of a new generation so that they can further step it up with the next LS in a few years. I imagine a super luxurious interior with cues from the LF-LC interior and full transparent OLEDS screens.

This new S-class will probably carry the torch for Mercedes for the next 6-7 years. In about 2 years we should be seeing the next generation LS (the all new one not the refreshed one we got recently), and that's the real competitor for this S-class in the long term.
