Get rid and trim the over hang for 400 lbs fat, the V8 GT500 will be best bargain muscle car to get.

15 inches shorter is significant! However i do not welcome the narrower body. Its a muscle car, its suppose to look aggressive

If you look back to the 1965 Mustang, the new dimensions are not that much smaller. The current model is 5.7" wider than the '65 and is about 8" longer. The new model, even if it loses 400 lb. would still be nearly 400 lb heavier than the original.

I'm hopeful that Ford gets this redesign right. The current V-6 hits 60 in 6 seconds, so a 400 lb lighter car should be really quick. The 2.3 liter turbo 4 should be even faster, and the V-8 a screamer. With the new IRS, handling and traction should be world class.

The current GT beat an M3 in several tests so things should get really interesting.

Word on the street is that the next "Shelby" or "Cobra" model will not be supercharged. Instead it will be a FLAT CRANK PLANE 5.4 DOCH monster. Yes, just like a mid engined, v8 Ferrari. That's according to Road and Track.

Somehow I doubt this though, but it would be just freaking awesome if you could buy for about $50-60k a Mustang that made 500+hp, revved to 8000rpm, and sounded like a damn Ferrari.

Thats a lot of weigh loss for a car in this segment let alone for a Ferrari. Not sure I buy it unless they plan on 65K Mustang GTs

We'll know soon enough with the 2015 F-150 and Mustang if this massive weight loss is true. Months back even up to a year ago (i'll have to dig up the post) Ford was rumored to shed 400-700lbs throughout the line-up for the next generation of vehicles. I'm not sure yet but maybe they've perfected a strengthening technique that will keep the costs within reason. Stay tuned

Default 2015 Ford Mustang shows its face in public

Ford is planning some big changes for the Mustang – likely the biggest shift in its iconic pony car since it ditched its previous jelly-bean-ish shape for the retro lines of the current model. Now it's leaving that design behind as well in favor of a more dynamic figure previewed by the Evos concept. But while we've known that to be the case for some time, the only prototypes we've spied to date have been heavily camouflaged. So heavily disguised, in fact, that you can barely tell what's underneath. Fortunately for us, a lot of that shape-obscuring body cladding had to go when it came time for hot-weather testing.

As you can plainly see from the shots above, Ford's development team kept most of the camo in place aft of the A-pillar, but this uncovered nose gives us our best glimpse at the upcoming new Mustang yet. Here we can see the shape of the hood, grille, air dam, air inlets and the outline of the headlights, even if their jeweled intricacies remain obscured, and we can see that the basic Evos shape has been muscled up a bit for Mustang duty.

As for what's sitting under that heavily padded hood, we're not quite clear. Whatever it is – we're thinking a 5.0-liter V8 is likely, possibly along with some smaller turbocharged options – performance should be good considering the rumored weight loss routine the car has apparently gone through. It's intriguing to see a Mustang Boss 302 S following behind, too.

Our intrepid spy photographers report they had to go to greater-than-usual lengths to get these shots, shadowing Ford's team for days on end to bring you this most revealing look at the next Mustang yet. So we hope you enjoy them.

Default New 2015 Ford Mustang Coupe Renders

Click here to view more photos

We still have several months left to cross the final corner of the sprint and head to the finish line that is the world premiere of the all-new, sixth generation Ford Mustang in April, 2014, on the 50th birthday of the series. That means there's plenty of time for speculation, especially of the drawing kind.

These fresh renderings of the new Mustang were commissioned by the folks running the Mustang6G forums and made by an old acquaintance of ours, Dutch photoshop artist Wildspeed.

We can’t help but notice that the 2015 Mustang shown in these renders, looks more like a modern evolution of the fourth-generation pony car, and especially of the redesigned and SN-95 codenamed "New Edge" model built from 1999 through 2004. Or at least that's what we see, and as always, you're free to leave your thoughts and comments below.

I like this modern look so much better than the retro look of the current one.

You're right , we will see , BUT I still dont buy that Ford will come out with tech that would revolutionize the entire industry if this was true. It would change the entire game. With Lamborghini obsessively focused on carbon fiber I have a hard believing that Lambo and companies like Ferrari, Porsche, and even BMW now were all going in the wrong direction and Ford is going to set the new benchmark. BUT in todays day and age of high tech development you never know. I still not holding my breath. The only way this will happen is if, like they said, the Mustang is significantly smaller and narrower. 15" shorter and 6" narrower seems a bit extreme

Its usually a big deal if the next model is even 100 lbs lighter than the previous so this is definitly a bold statement. I am looking forward to it but not if the next stang is the size of a civic
