I like it, it would have worked well for jag if it was released 3 years ago. The design is already a little dated...

Default Watch 2016 Jaguar XE Presentation Live Now - First 25 Photos Surface

Jaguar's all-new XE compact executive sedan will come out of the shadows today at a little after 2:15 PM EST (or 18:15 GMT / 19:15 BST / 20:15 CET) during a special event in London, which you can watch below.

Besides the live stream, you can catch up with the latest news on the social media front, while we'll also be providing updates on anything new we find – it goes without saying, you can do the same in the comments box.

The XE is Jaguar's second stab at the wildly popular compact premium segment to challenge the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the rest after the ill-fated X-Type of the 2000s.

It will ride on a new modular vehicle architecture with lightweight aluminum making up 75 percent of the structure.

Jaguar is expected to launch the car with the group's new Ingenium engine range that will include a highly fuel efficient four-cylinder lump returning over 75 mpg UK (62.4 mpg US or 3.7 l/100 km) and CO2 emissions of less than 100 g/km. The brand's 3.0-liter supercharged V6 found in models like the F-Type will also be on offer.

The XE will have its formal public debut at next month's Paris Auto Show.

Default New 2016 Jaguar XE Sports Saloon: 42 HD Photos and Full Details*

Click here to view more photos

This is the all-new XE with which Jaguar aims to challenge the BMW 3-Series saloon and its kind when it goes on sale in Europe and other markets in the first half of 2015, and from 2016, in North America as well.

Jaguar presented the car in a theatrical (literally) manner in Earls Court, London on Monday night, ahead of the car's world premiere at the 2014 Paris Auto Show in October.

It's a sleek, albeit somewhat conservative looking four-door saloon, and just to get the elephant in the room out of the way, the styling resemblance with the bigger XF is unmistakable, from the snout to the coupe-like roofline and the short tail.

Are there any differences? Sure there are, but in a what separates a compact from a mid-size Audi kind of way, like the more upright front grille, the slightly slimmer headlamps positioned closer to the ground, and the bigger tail lamps. But don't be ashamed to admit if you have to take a second or third glimpse at the XE to make sure it’s not an updated XF.

"Our mission was to create an exciting and dynamic design clearly reflecting the XE's positioning as a serious driver's car," said Jaguar design boss, Ian Callum. "The cab-rearward proportions and tight packaging achieve that and give the XE the appearance of movement even when it's standing still. It bears a strong family resemblance to the F-TYPE and will stand apart in the crowd."

Agreed. The interior is also a complete letdown, imo. Interiors used to be Jaguar's calling card.

To me, this is OK. XF debuted in 2007 and we haven't really seen much "new" from Jaguar since then. I was hoping the XE would debut some second generation of that design language, but this just looks like a scaled down XF. Considering that the XE is going to debut here as a 2017 model, that gives us a decade of cars that all looked the same.

Concerningly, some elements of the interior look pretty... cheap. Those door panels in particular are pretty low-rent looking, and these are photoshopped press pics.

It's a little disappointing that the envelope wasn't pushed further, but this is certainly still a nice looking car.

If the engine and exhaust note are anything like the F-Type...COUNT ME IN. I'd give up Japanese reliability and German engineering for that.

Sexy! I'm sold!

Look at the driver door. Looks like two sets of window controls (it's not but still )

Jaguar says that the XE is the lightest, stiffest and most aerodynamic (Cd 0.26) saloon it has ever built - the XE S with a V6 weights 1,475 kg (3,252 pounds). It’s also the first model from Jaguar to be equipped with an electric power steering for improved efficiency

Yup.

The XE is only about 100 lbs more than the CT200h.

I think the door panels might look a little flat in the pictures, but it looks like they're stitched leather, so I don't think they'll be cheap feeling or looking in person. Doesn't have the wavy stitching patterns that the Lexus RC and to some extent the Lincoln MKC is now doing, but I think it'll look clean. Looks like real aluminum on the air vents, etc instead of the normal silver painted plastics, etc.

At a glance, the cabin ergonomics are really bad IMO. Why aren't the window controls on the same plane as the armrest but instead on a higher shelf? Also the placement of the start button is not ideal. I'm not a fan of start buttons that have wandered away from the around the steering column, especially when they get mixed in with hvac/infotainment controls.

kind of a big "meh" from me. Cant believe they just recycled the XF side profile and that corporate front end.

weight sounds great... it is all great on paper overall... but looks are already a bit dated and interior is not what i expect from Jaguar.
