Why waste electronics and production-expense on something like that? Just put the tri-star ornament back on the hood where it belongs.

Couldn't have said it better. At least the adapted to the oversized grille logo over the years.

The model in that pic has too many LED's IMO. Looks like TRON.

I like the three pointed star in the grille for the coupes and SUVs. I don't like them as much on sedans. And its not like Mercedes just recently started putting the star in the grille.

New pedestrian safety regulations are likely going to do away with traditional "hood" ornaments, even if they can bend backwards. Along with aerodynamic needs for fuel economy.

belongs?? that's a bit much, and a bit old fashioned.

No, this 3-pointed star illuminated is going to look fine.

"Rice" will be for all the copy-catters out there who will buy cheap aftermarket parts to try to get the same effect.

I think it's going to look just fine on a factory Mercedes

Looks too gimmicky. Along with all the other LED fads that out here now. There's nothing luxurious about Christmas lights and Tron tubes lights all over your car. Luxury lighting supposed to have a nice, warm, soft glow to it not a piercing array of lights all over the place like those new age fire trucks. SMh

I was using the term as a figure of speech, not necessarily literally.

I don't agree with either the pedestrian-impact or gas-mileage arguements being legitimate reasons for doing away with hood ornaments. First, ornaments don't have to have sharp edges on them to cause injury...in fact, many of the best-looking auto-logos are contained within a simple circle or oval....Buick, Mercedes, BMW, Subaru, Ford, Mazda, etc..... Second, the miniscule (if any) amount of air-resistance that they generate is not enough to significantly affect gas economy. Third, virtually all of them (in the American market) got flexi-springs years ago that makes them fold flat with the hood when struck, minimizing or preventing any injury....and the very few that don't have springs, like Rolls/Bentley/Maybach, can actually be lowered down into the grille in pedestrian-heavy or high-crime areas.

Agreed. It also reminds me of those flashy free-spinners on wheel-covers that keep turning when the car is stopped....and those LED-lighted license-plate frames.
