Default Are exotic cars the be all, end all ?

Recently I have talked to many car people and they love cars, but are just not into exotics at all. A Ferrari or Lamborghini holds no interest at all. Instead they go crazy for old muscle cars or tuner cars.

I always felt in a lifetime of car ownership, the eventually goal is to have some kind of exotic, but they are for the most part unaffordable, fragile, and the power gap has closed big time with many muscle and tuner cars faster then some exotics..

So the question, money no object, are exotic cars still the be all, end all ? Or does some other type or specific car light your fire more ?

I enjoy looking at exotics and watching the you tube videos but I think I would rather own several old restored cars than an exotic (assuming I had that kind of disposable income)

I would say exotics are the most important because they are halo's to the masses. Without them, mainstream would not benefit as much from their pioneering in engineering, technology and innovation.

Exotic to me: people stare at it from the point they saw it until its out of site. Sure a boosted muscle & tuner might be faster, but they barely caught attention, except those know about car.

Its also about status. You don't have to be rich to drive BMW, Mercedes, Lexus....but you definitely need to have the cash to own a Lambo or Ferrari

The fun factor is purely subjective preferences, they all offer different kind of fun. There really is no what is best.

Is like comparing an expensive meal from a fancy restaurant vs. cooking your favorite meal yourself, both good, just different experiences.

I think the unattainable factor is what really contributes to so many people, enthusiasts included, to being indifferent about super cars. They are cool as hell, but knowing you will probably never own one kinda kills the excitement and thrill. Jet airplanes are cool also.... but the majority of us can never come up with the money to buy one so it would be pointless to care about them or get excited about them. At least that's my take on it.

money aside, I would love to have an exotic. But the price of maintenance keeps me away from true exotics (lambo/Ferrari), but I can see myself getting an r8 or another equivalent car in the future.

I love old muscle cars, especially the '68-'70 Camaro. When I owned an '87 Pontiac Trans Am GTA (hard to believe its already considered an antique), I got more compliments in that car than in my Supra. However, with older cars you have be more tolerant of little things breaking and squeaks/rattles.

But the be all, end all? There is an Aston Martin v8 Vantage in my 1-year plan!

I too enjoy muscle cars, but my dream would definitely be to own a v12 lambo (murci or aventador)

in yellow of course

I've always wanted a Lambo in my younger years, but now that I'm a bit older I realize how much attention they get and how much of it I don't want. Many people thrive for the attention and neck breaking attributes of a Lambo, and if you tell yourself you're buying it for performance, then you need to stop lying to yourself because there are many cars that are half the price with better performance. On top of that I'm the type of person that loves to drive their car... I cannot watch it sit there in a garage to collect dust.

I think the most exotic I'd go is a Porsche 911 Turbo... I'll leave the Lambos / Ferraris for the ones who thrive for attention.

Think of media.

Posters of exotics are found throughout the world. Magazines covet them. They're still what people desire.

And I think there is a greater interest in vintage & muscle cars than the others listed in the poll.

You rarely see mass produced posters of tuners or commercial luxury cars. How pedestrian...
