A further benefit is that the e-motor can provide faster upshifts. This is achieved through the application of instant negative torque at the point of shift, making the engine revs drop as quickly and efficiently as possible to the required engine speed for the upshift.
When I first read that the P1 was gonna be a hybrid I was like meh.. yet another automaker doing a performance hybrid just to be quasi-green, but now I see this... THIS is how you innovate in a performance hybrid, by taking advantage of the unique characteristics of electric motors! This and Honda's 2nd-gen SH-AWD are making REAL justification for including electric motors in a performance car to actually enhance the performance aspects of the car, and not to merely use the electric motors as an alternative/greener power source.
Toyota is a clear leader in hybrids in terms of efficiency and refinement, but they need to think outside the box when it comes to applying hybrids to their performance cars.
8:19 => Ron Dennis personally drove the car at the Top Gear test track and HE beat the current record by TEN seconds (imagine what the STIG can do)!! And he says that the P1 is also a sub-7-minute car around the Nurburgring. Insane!!

uhh he said he beat the "star in a reasonably priced car" lap record by 10 seconds That's not fast. http://topgear.wikia.com/wiki/Star_i...bly-Priced_car So he did maybe a 1:36. That's 23 seconds slower than the Pagani Huayra. I think it'll be faster, but not by 10 seconds.
