Default Production McLaren P1 GTR Teased, Debuts at Geneva Show

Dubbed as the most powerful and most exclusive McLaren model to-date, the new P1 GTR will make its world premiere in production guise at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

This follows the display of the P1 GTR Design Concept in racing livery at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance last August where McLaren had confirmed initial specifications for the track-only model (sorry, you can't use the GTR on the road…).

Free from the restrictions of street-legal regulations, McLaren engineers were able to improve the P1's aerodynamics using more extreme solutions such as the huge rear wing, front splitter, extra aero and cooling features on the sides, repositioned mirrors, redesigned rear diffuser, and a lowered chassis.

The GTR also rides on a wider front track and new slick tires, while output from the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and electric motor combination was raised from 903hp to 986hp.

According to McLaren, all these changes along with a number of weight-saving measures help the GTR boast a power-to-weight ratio increase in excess of 10 percent over the road-going model, to more than 700PS (691hp) per tonne.

The British firm said that recent tests across Europe and the Middle East "have pushed the performance of the car to its limits, and have been designed to further enhance cooling and aerodynamics over the design concept".

McLaren plans to begin production of the P1 GTR in very limited numbers later this year.

Default Chris Harris’ Full Take on the McLaren P1

There’s not much left unsaid about the McLaren P1. If it’s not the most sophisticated car ever made, it surely is in the top five.

Chris Harris has recently uploaded a very detailed 28-minute video review of the McLaren P1, which also benefits from the presence of McLaren Automotive’s chief test driver Chris Goodwin.

If there was something you didn’t know about the McLaren P1, I’m sure this video is the one to watch. Harris drove the hybrid hypercar both on the roads of Abu Dhabi and on the city’s Yas Marina Formula 1 circuit, but the vehicle featured in the video wasn’t a production car.

It was the XP7 pre-production prototype that had racked up more than 40,000 miles (64,374 km) of testing at the time the review was filmed.

If you experience a feeling of deja-vu while watching the video, it’s because it is an extended version of a review that was previously posted on /Drive’s channel.

Default Hot Blue MSO McLaren P1 is Dressed to Impress

Click here to view more photos

Let's go out on a limb and say that the McLaren P1 is the hottest car you can take on a date (photo shoot) in 2015. This is already our 3rd one this month and it also comes via MSO (McLaren Special Operations) - it's where the 'Hot Blue' paint job came from.

Does this mean that the P1 is currently the most popular hybrid hypercar in the world? Well, all the reviews we've seen are more than just positive. Everybody loves this car. Most love it more than they do the 918 Spyder, while some love it just as much as they do the LaFerrari.

It's hard to decide, but as much as this may sound like a fresh out the box subjective opinion, the LaFerrari doesn't look as good as the P1 overall, despite having one of the most epic front ends in the history of cars.

This Hot Blue P1 was captured on camera beautifully by Bleasdell Autophotography and it looks simply amazing. How else could a 916 PS, 900Nm, 217 mph car look?

We'll leave it to you to decide if this P1 looks better than the Satin Volcano Red one or the Volcano Orange one that conquered Death Valley.

Default McLaren Unveils New 1000PS P1 GT-R in its Final Form

McLaren will show the finalized P1 GTR in Geneva Motor Show and just released the final details about one of the most expensive track-toys ever built.

The vital numbers are: 1000PS of combined output, with 800 (789bhp) of them coming by the 3.8-litre twin-turbo petrol engine and the other 200 (197bhp) available immediately from the electric motor. The front track is wider by 80mm than the road-going version and the ride is lowered by 50mm as well. Mclaren was able to reduce the weight by 50kg, applying a series of pure motorsport solutions.

Side windows are now made from motorsport-specification polycarbonate with a sliding ‘ticket window’ on the driver’s side. The glass panels on the roof have been replaced by carbon-fibre ones “to give the cabin a more enclosed, cocooned environment” with the same happening in the engine bay cover as well.

The Mclaren P1 GT-R is wearing a set of 19-inched centre-locking motorsport alloy wheels, shod in Pirelli slick tyres. In the front we find a more aggressive front splitter and the sides are dominated by a “sleek, aerodynamic blade which cleans the flow of air along the car’s flanks”.

The fixed rear wing seats more than 400mm above the bodywork, 100 more than the road-going version. In conjunction with the front flaps ahead of the front wheels, the P1 GT-R generates up to 660kg of downforce at 150mph, an increase of more than 10 percent. The huge wing retains the DRS (Drag Reduction Sustem) function of the road car and it can trim the pitch from 32° to 0° at the push of the button on the steering wheel. The huge, twin exhaust pipes are made from an Inconel and titanium alloy, saving more than 6.5kg over the standard item.

The Geneva Show car will be painted in the same livery of the F1 GTR chassis #06R and will make its debut next to the 675LT.

This or a LaFerrari FXX K?

Default McLaren P1 GTR Meets Legendary F1 GTR, Ahead of Geneva Debut

McLaren released a video preview of the P1 GTR prior its official debut in Geneva Motor Show.

In this video we get to see the track-only beast sharing the same space with its iconic ancestor, the McLaren F1 GTR chassis #06R in the same Harrods livery the new car wears. Both of the cars are going to be displayed at McLaren’s stand in Geneva.

It’s only natural for McLaren to use its motorsport past in order to pave the way for the new client program where the very lucky and very few customers will be able to measure themselves against a 1000hp hybrid race car and each other.

In order to do that though, McLaren will train them individually in their “Human Performance Centre”, making sure that the clients will be ready for the challenge ahead them.

It’s a cruel world, we know.

Love how raw that rear end is. Just about the best pieces money can buy.

Wow that is neat

Default McLaren P1 GTR Order Book Closes on Friday

The track-only McLaren P1 GTR just made its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, but it won’t be long before the window of opportunity to own one shuts.

In fact, the company is closing its order books on Friday, March 6. Company spokesman John Paolo Canton said that before the show opened, McLaren had 38 copies on its order books, but that it took a last-minute order on the night of Tuesday, March 3, bringing the total to 39. The 1,000 metric horsepower track-exclusive machine sits lower and wider than the normal P1 with a lighter curb weight.

The interior has been stripped of the normal P1’s stylish materials in favor of a mostly bare cockpit that does away with comfort features save the air conditioning. For example, it has racing seats, polycarbonate side windows. It also gets special 19-inch center-locking wheels wrapped in racking slicks, rubber that the normal P1 isn’t compatible with.

P1 ownership is prerequisite to getting a P1 GTR, which limits the pool of potential customers to the small pool of current owners. For the special few who both have the right to buy one and can afford it, McLaren is also offering a training program that includes track time and a fitness training program.

The P1 GTR is the ultimate version of McLaren's P1 hypercar. It costs Ł1.98 million, and comes with 986bhp courtesy of its hybrid powertrain. Andrew Frankel takes it for a drive.

Default McLaren Special Ops cooks up a devilish P1

Outfitted by McLaren Special Operations, this particular McLaren P1 has been done up in a rather devilish black and red livery reminiscent of the scheme that the company's Formula One team is running on its single-seaters this season.

Default McLaren exposes P1 in naked carbon fiber

The latest customer project completed by the team at McLaren Special Operations, through its MSO Bespoke division, showcases the craftsmanship and levels of tailoring available to all McLaren owners. The McLaren P1™ by MSO, one of the 375 road legal versions produced, is presented with a full visual carbon fibre body which has been hand-laid, with a bespoke 'Lio Blue' tinted lacquer. The Geneva Motor Show marks the first time the full visual carbon fibre body conversion has been displayed publicly after it was made available to McLaren P1™ customers earlier this year. Other key upgrades completed by MSO include a gloss black finish to the wheels, an extensive retrim of the interior with carbon black Alcantara® and contrasting blue stitching, and a 24-carat gold exhaust heatshield in a homage to the McLaren F1.
