2 hours into WEC 6 Hours of Spa

Toyota #7 managed to safe fuel during SC and gained three laps, enough to take over the lead and keep the lead after pit stop with refueling only, no tire change. Currently still in the lead with Audi #2 less than a second behind it on fresh tires I assume. Toyota survived, Audi #2 is in the pits.

Toyota #8 pitted and had a driver change, they are well behind the back and 1 lap down compared to leading Toyota.

Audi #1 still has the best lap time and its super quick but they have bit time difficulty passing by Audi #3 longtail because they are well over a half a minute behind it due to tire puncture.

Porsche leading the LMGTE Pro but it hasn't been to pits yet Aston Martin closing on it by lightning speed though. Kobayashi switched the seats with Vilander while Fisichella switched with Bruni.

Watched the race, a dissapointment the #7 car had to retire. Hybrid 'recharge' failure led to brake overheating in the rear. Never happened before.

Le Mans, 22 June 2013: It is with great shock and sadness that the Aston Martin Racing Team confirms that an accident occurred shortly after the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans at around 15:09 hrs CET today (22 June) when the No 95 Vantage GTE driven by Allan Simonsen left the track at Tertre Rouge.

Tragically, and despite the best efforts of the emergency services in attendance, Allan’s injuries proved fatal.

Aston Martin Racing Managing Director, John Gaw, said: “On behalf of all of us at Aston Martin Racing, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the individuals, and families whose friends or loved ones were involved in today's terrible tragedy.”

Aston Martin Racing will not make any further comment until the precise circumstances of the accident have been determined. Next of kin have been informed.

Following the ACO’s media statement concerning the tragic death of Aston Martin Racing driver Allan Simonsen, and at the specific request of his family, the team will continue to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in tribute to Allan.
Horrible news! Incident itself didn't look too bad but it took marshals too long to clear up so I knew something was wrong and especially that no news came about Allan long after the incident. That's just BS, screw racing it's not worth it.

On a positive note Toyotas are 2nd and 3rd, one lap behind leading Audi but one lap ahead of Audi in 4th. Third Audi had big problems and its currently 11 laps down behind some LMP2 cars as well.

7 Toyota crashed in the final hours but still managed to finish 4th 7 laps down.

The 8 Toyota ran trouble free and finished an excellent 2nd, but they were simply no match for the Audi pace.

Toyota really needs to expand its budget. Its clear Audi upped their game tremendously and also had more cars to run.

Does anyone know what is the difference in respect to 2012?

As far as I remember the Toyotas were quite a bit faster in the last races of 2012? Are they slower now or are the Audis that much faster than last year?
Anyone with technical insights?

Probably because audi brought in new Diesel engine, and diesel has much more torque at lower RPM together with much torque at hybrid...their torque is everywhere. Toyota while having a good hybrid system, if the capacitors and battery is weaken the torque will dip low leaving the gasoline engine torque alone, and that will not be able to send as much torque as Diesel.

I would say in endurance Audi had won, simply of their diesel ability to torque on without the hybrids assist when battery is low.

Some one else may have a better and indepth idea. I would love to see why as well

Due to major regulation change for next season I believe that all manufacturers ceased to improve upon 2013 spec rides except Audi. One of the reasons why Toyota is stagnating as well.

Last Race of the Season! 6 Hours of Bahrain goes live

Toyota had its best qualification result since entering the series by grabbing a pole and 2nd.

After miserable start of 2013 WEC season they finally got their act together after LeMans 2013 by winning in Japan and now dominating in Bahrain.

Watch it live HERE

Lets hope Toyota gets a proper closure of 2013 and then lets wait for 2014 when Porsche will finally re-enter the series with their own manufacturer's car and Honda with its new turbo engine. Cant wait!

TOYOTA WON 2013 WEC FINALE IN BAHRAIN

Although Toyota was running strong at 1st and 2nd place Wurz's car had to pit due to engine failure. Same thing happened on the last race in Shanghai when race leading Toyota had to forfeit.

Anyway at least we got an awesome closure of 2013 season crowned by Toyota!

Good luck next year boys you gonna need it!

And just to spice the things up Ferrari might join Audi, Toyota and Porsche in 2015

Going to be difficult for them next year, Audi and Porsche have already start testing their new cars while Toyota won't until January. Plus those two have massive budgets at their disposal allowing them to run more cars.
