Just found the latest example of a semi-exotic car with a mid engine mounted transversely that came from a FWD economy car.

The Alfa Romeo 4C mid mounted drivetrain is pretty much directly came from the front of the FWD Dodge Dart and Alfa Romeo Giulietta, even the suspension struts are the same.

They have been doing this since the beginning of cars, and will continue until there are no more gas engine.

And with the 4C, they are charging more than 50K for it to start.

I'm sure that there are other reasons why a 4C starts at 54K (not just where the power train or chassis was derived from)....but your point is well-taken.

The initial fully loaded launch edition is $70k, base model is $54k.

It is basically a mid engine Dodge Dart with a carbon monocoque chassis and sports car hardwares.

Bingo. But carbon-fiber is generally an expensive material, and, today, is often used in advanced aircraft.

Have you seen close-up, or driven an RLX? If so, what did you think of it? I did a full-review on one last summer and was generally quite pleased with it, although unlike a number of other Acura sedans, it was, somewhat like the 1Gen RL (which earned the nickname Japanese Buick), more comfort than sport-oriented.
