Default 2013 Range Rover already on huge wait list

2013 Range Rover already on huge wait list

Had your eyes on Land Rover's new all-singing, all-dancing 2013 Range Rover? You're not alone – and hopefully you were smart enough to already put down a deposit. The capability- and lux-laden sport utility vehicle began trickling into dealers in December, but is already "sold out for six months to a year," says Chris Marchand, executive vice president of operations at Jaguar Land Rover North America.

That's according to Automotive News, which notes that limited supply issues have made Land Rover shift all North American deliveries to the $88,545 HSE trim or higher instead of the $83,545 base model. The move should not only help dealer profits, it apparently better matches the buying patterns established by the outgoing model – shoppers of the L322 generation skipped out on the base spec and went right for costlier models with more luxury trappings.

It isn't immediately clear when Land Rover thinks it will be able to catch up to the Range Rover's order bank, but keeping the vehicle in high demand should assure higher transaction prices. As Land Rover is still ramping up its marketing efforts for their latest range topper, it's possible that wait lists could get even longer as more people find out about the new model.

Despite the shortage of vehicles, Automotive News says that Land Rover remains confident that its 2013 sales total will outpace last year's 43,664-unit total.

This Range Rover is really on a roll. I could only hope It's success and that of the Evoque is the turn around Land Rover and for that matter Jaguar have been waiting for. There's new models, appeal, modernness, tech and innovation. I'd like to seem them start winning some comparison tests and car of the year's

We just got a Range Rover Sport 2009 iirc as a trade in, and I was amazed and disappointed at how much hard plastic was in it. This new Range Rover seems to have stepped it up

^43,000 units a year is A TON for a car that costs about $100,000 Especially on a model that has been out for 8-9 years and is due to be replaced.

That got fixed in 2010 with the last refresh, but yes this new model has really gone to a new level.

Default Range Rover dropping V8 base engine in favor of supercharged V6

Range Rover dropping V8 base engine in favor of supercharged V6

The 2013 Range Rover is on waiting lists so long that Land Rover isn't even importing the base model for lack of sufficient uptake in view of limited resources. When that backlog is all cleared up, there's a 15-page booklet worth of changes coming for the 2014 model year, the biggest of which is the disappearance of the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine. It will be replaced in the base Range Rover and the HSE with a supercharged 3.0-liter V6.

The new Rangie's aesthetics have changed to help it improve its overall Earth friendliness, and that's the reason given for the engine switch: following "the widespread industry trend to downsize engines due to GHG [greenhouse gasses] legislation which requires continuing efforts to improve emissions and fuel consumption." The V8 produced 375 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque, the supercharged V6 gets 340 hp and 332 lb-ft. That slows the 0-to-60 mile-per-hour time from 6.5 seconds to 7.1, but improves gas mileage by two miles per gallon across the board to 16 city, 22 highway and 18 combined and CO2 emissions drop by 22 percent. Stop/start will come standard on both the V6 and the supercharged 5.0-liter V8, that latter engine still standard fitment on the Supercharged and Autobiography trims.

Elsewhere on the velveteen exploration mobile, the price of the Adaptive Cruise Control will drop from $2,000 to $1,295. The Active Rear Locking Differential gets combined with the Tow Package; both are available separately on the Supercharged and Autobiography trims for $1,400 total right now, combined the two will cost $1,300 on the 2014 model. The LED signature lamps, an option with the Vision Assist package, will be standard across the range, and two new colors are added and one disappears.

I'm betting the torque curve on that supercharged v6 is so fat you won't notice the difference between it and the naturally aspirated v8 unless you're towing something heavy or have the hammer down at 70+mph where the extra 35hp would make a difference.

I wish they'd bring the diesel Rovers over to the states, I'm kind of curious what a state of the art diesel would drive like and if you could get the same economy as something like a big family sedan.

Default Range Rover's new base V6 engine official

Range Rover's new base V6 engine official

Land Rover has officially announced that the 2014 Range Rover will be offered with a new supercharged 3.0-liter V6 as its base engine, replacing the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8. And not to worry, the charming 510-horsepower supercharged V8 will still be available.

The new V6 is the same unit recently stuffed under the hood of the Jaguar XF and XJ, good for 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, running to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission and featuring start/stop fuel-saving technology. Hitting 60 miles per hour will take 7.1 seconds – a reduction of six-tenths of a second versus the outgoing 5.0-liter mill, and top speed is rated at 130 miles per hour.

Where this new engine really helps the Range Rover is in fuel economy. The 3.0-liter engine is estimated to achieve EPA ratings of 16/22/18 miles per gallon (city/highway/combined), improvements of four mpg in each driving cycle.

2014 RANGE ROVER NOW AVAILABLE FOR ORDER WITH A CHOICE OF SUPERCHARGED V6 & V8 ENGINES

- Following the sales success of the all-new 2013 Range Rover, the 2014 Range Rover is now available for order, with deliveries beginning this summer
- A new 340hp 3-liter supercharged V6 will offer improved efficiency with reduced emissions and uncompromised capability
- A 510hp supercharged 5-liter V8 will continue to be available
- The 2014 Range Rover will be equipped with a new Intelligent Stop/Start system which reduces idling to reduce emissions and save fuel
- Both engines will be paired with an eight-speed ZF 8HP70
- Introduced for 2013, the high-strength all-aluminum Range Rover weighs approximately 700lbs less than the previous generation

(MAHWAH, NJ) February 19, 2013 - On the heels of a massively successful launch of the 2013 all-new Range Rover, Land Rover is opening retail orders for the 2014 Range Rover, which will be in showrooms this summer.

The upcoming 2014 Range Rover will be available with a new and more
efficient 340hp supercharged V6 engine. This new engine choice combines effortless performance and exceptional refinement with enhanced fuel efficiency. The supercharged V6 engine will be offered alongside the 510hp supercharged V8. Both engines will be paired with an eight-speed ZF 8HP70 automatic transmission. The supercharged V6 will replace the naturally aspirated 5-liter V8 in the model line-up.

With the new supercharged V6, the 2014 Range Rover will reach 60 mph from rest in just 7.1 seconds*. The supercharged 3-liter 90 degree V6 engine was developed from the existing 5-liter V8. With a peak output of 340hp at 6,500rpm, it offers a strong torque curve throughout the engine speed range, producing maximum torque between 3,500 and 5,000rpm.

The new engine has been engineered to support the full breadth of capability expected from a Range Rover, including extreme off-road tilt angles up to 45 degrees, wading depth of nearly 36 inches (900mm) and towing weight up to 7,716 lbs (3,500kg). The engine's accessory drive is waterproofed, as are the alternator, air conditioning compressor, and starter motor. A pressure die-cast oil pan which features a deep profile and oil pick-up is designed to operate at tilt angles of up to 45 degrees fore/aft. The four-cam V6 shares features a lightweight die-cast aluminum block supplemented with cross-bolted main bearing caps for strength. The valves are controlled by a dual independent variable cam timing (DIVCT) system which is activated by the positive and negative torques generated by the movement of the intake and exhaust valves. This variable timing system features actuation rates of more than 150 degrees per second, to optimize power, torque and economy at all engine speeds. Counter-rotating front and rear balancer weights are engineered into this 90 degree V6 to maximize smoothness and refinement.

Land Rover's Intelligent Stop/Start system helps enhance fuel efficiency in stop and go driving by reducing engine idling under certain conditions which saves fuel and cuts emissions.

Spray-guided direct injection (SGDI) delivers precise quantities of fuel directly into the combustion chambers at pressures of up to 150bar (2175PSI). The fuel is injected in a matter of milliseconds several times during each combustion cycle, creating a more homogenous air-fuel mixture for cleaner and more efficient combustion. A high compression ratio of 10.5:1 further improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions. The latest-generation Roots-type twin vortex supercharger is mounted in the 'V' of the engine and the charge air utilizes an air/liquid intercooler. A new Bosch engine management system controls all engine functions.

When coupled to a high-strength yet lightweight all-aluminum structure this new powertrain further builds on the efficiency gains of the new Range Rover.
