I've had the worst experience with Audi. For my 2006 Audi A4 that I bought new, I think I've spent over $9000 on just repairs on a $35k vehicle. Look up the 2.0T FSI engine, and you will find a plethora of issues ranging from cam followers wearing out to excessive carbon deposition in the engine. And my vehicle was not just an anomaly either, they had to issue a host of warranty extensions and recalls, with some items still not being covered. Will never be purchasing an Audi vehicle again. For the price of an Audi A5, I'd definitely stick to a Japanese brand that actually takes workmanship and quality into consideration when engineering a vehicle for mass production. I'd recommend everyone stay away from Audi, unless leasing or you're prepared to shell out a lot of money on repairs.

Except for the too-large, oversized grille, I've have to agree. The A5 and S5 are both certainly beautiful designs. Worth 50K, though? I'm not sure I'd spend 50K on any car, though...even for a stunner like this.

same reason why people would pay 50k for a 328i.

at least, A5 is a sweet looking car unlike a boring 3 series.

The A5 starts at about $42K on Autotrader.com at dealers in my area.Add the $3K NAV and other goodies and the number rises quickly.
That stated, the A5 is one of the nicest looking cars on the road.
If Audi had good lease numbers,an A5 or A6 would be in my driveway..

It's not nonsense at all, if you start with a higher trim-level and add options. In fact, some versions of even the A5 (never mind the S5) start at $48,500.

Here....see for yourself.

I just did a nationwide search on A5's on Autotrader and the cheapest one available is at Audi of Downtown LA for $40595.
Two others at Santa Monica Audi for $40995.
3 cheapest of 1582 listed nationwide.

Yes, base-models do start at 38K (see the build-your-own web-site I posted above). But my point (and my reply) was that it is not difficult at all to hit 50K on a new A5....which was the thread topic.

$37k "Premium" is a complete stripper that doesn't even include Bluetooth or Xenon headlamps.

Premium plus with Nav, stereo, and sport pack is $49k, Prestige with S-Line is $51k, and those are with the Manual tranny. Add $1200 if you want the auto. The price can certainly go higher than that--an automatic with every option is over $56k--but $50k for a nicely-equipped example is certainly an accurate estimate.

I agree Mike and basically said the same thing above.

It's tough finding a base A5.

Probably because of marketing/selling tactics. Salespeople and dealerships know that, although styling is objective, a lot of people think the car is gorgeous, and drool over it. So, of course, Audi shops are going to (mostly) keep loaded ones in stock that will make them the most profit on each car, forcing the occasional customer who simply won't (or can't) spend that much to order a base-model car (if possible) and wait for it.

yep this worried me too--- so the A5 has a 7 year 100K BB ext warranty....just in case.

So order one.

Stocking optioned out models on the lots is a sales tactic. Nobody is forcing anybody to pay $50k for an A5 when you CAN get one for under $40k.

This whole thread is actually completely pointless, complaining about how much it costs when it doesn't cost that much, and comparing its engine to a Civic Si when it's clearly a ton more powerful than a Civic Si engine.

OP has only posted twice. Troll thread, cya.
