The 2015 Corvette Z06 Hits 0-60 In 2.95 Seconds, Is Stupid Fast
We all knew the 650 horsepower 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 would be fast. That's the whole point. Now we know it's gonna be stupid fast: the zero to 60 mph dash is done in 2.95 seconds, and it will run a 10.95 second quarter mile. Stupid fast, I say!
These mind-blowing numbers come to us from Hot Rod magazine, who today came out with the most detailed reports on the upcoming Z06's performance that anyone has seen yet.
There's a catch here, and it's a big catch: those crazy numbers are with the new 8-speed automatic. The 7-speed manual-equipped Z06 does zero to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds.
That's right: the auto is faster. Anyone else wanna hate on the autobox now?
Hot Rod's report says that the new Z06 is quicker to 60 mph with that gearbox than a Dodge Viper TA and an Audi R8 V10. It's not quite as fast as the Nissan GT-R Track Pack to 60 mph but it has a better quarter mile time, and is almost on par with the quarter mile time of the Porsche 911 Turbo.
More importantly, the Z06 is vastly cheaper than all of those cars. The Z06 has always been a giant-slayer, but the new one may just be the best performance bargain around.

those z06 numbers are amazing
lol - why anyone would want a manual shifter on a car with 650hp is beyond me. no chance in hell you can shift faster than a good auto. manuals are more fun on slower cars.

Revorix Corvette headed to SEMA
Click here to view more photos
California-based Revorix has announced plans to introduce their new tuning program for the Chevrolet Corvette at the SEMA Motor Show.
Created to "maximize performance to an already high performance vehicle," the car has been equipped with an aerodynamic body kit which was designed by Rowen CEO Takayoshi Hiei. The company declined to go into specifics but the package apparently includes a front lip spoiler, revised side skirts and a rear diffuser.
There's no word on any other performance modifications but the company said "by concentrating on the aerodynamics, rigidity and weight, the car can be pushed to the ultimate limit while adding style."
The styling package will be available in the United States through DefenderWorx, while Japanese customers will be able to order it through GM Japan.

Here's how people spec'd their C7 Corvettes in 2014
For its first year out of the gate, the 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette Stingray did very well for itself, selling 37,288 units worldwide with 34,678 of the new sports cars hitting the market in the US alone. In fact, the total number was one of the best figures for the Corvette in the modern era. But the full breakdown of all the 2014 C7's sales data has hit the web from The National Corvette Museum blog, and it has given us the chance to be nosy and find out what people really want from this latest model.
Individually, buyers seemed to really want some extra performance from their new Vette, because the coupe with the Z51 package was the most popular model, with 15,431 made (41.4 percent), followed by the standard coupe with 11,134 built (29.9 percent). The Z51 option pack was hugely popular full-stop, with a total of 21,105 examples in all bodystyles ordered with its added performance pieces – that's 56.6 percent of the year's production. If anything, we're surprised the bargain-priced grouping didn't net an even higher percentages.
Despite people clearly wanting performance, customers' transmission preferences unsurprisingly skewed towards automatics. The six-speed auto had 24,088 orders (64.6 percent), while the remaining 13,200 were seven-speed manuals. When the 'Vette was closer to launch, the seven-speed represented about 38 percent of the production, so it only fell a few percent over the entire model year.
Interestingly, some options were practically a universal choice among buyers. Some 31,173 cars (83.6 percent) had the box for the optional performance exhaust ticked. Also, 30,427 people (81.6 percent) ponied up for navigation.
When shopping for colors, customers really wanted to own a little red Corvette. Torch Red was the most popular paint shade with 7,197 made. In fact, it, Arctic White and Black were the three most popular hues, representing 51.7 percent of total orders. The least wanted was Lime Rock Green with just 1,566 sold, and it has been discontinued for the 2015 model year.
These details are just scratching the surface at all of the info to be gleaned from this data. Check out the The National Corvette Museum blog for the full table.

Features a supercharged engine
Luxemburg-based Abbes has unveiled their new tuning program for the Corvette Stingray.
Designed to outperform the stock version in "all aspects," the Abbes Corvette has been equipped with an aerodynamic body kit which has been designed to blend in with the original looks of the car. The company declined to go into specifics but the pictures suggest the package includes a front lip spoiler, revised side skirts and a rear wing. We can also see a new rear bumper and a sporty rear diffuser.
Performance specifications were not released but Abbes confirmed the 6.2-liter V8 engine has been equipped with a high-performance cooling system, an optimized ECU and a compressor. The model also has high-performance brakes and an adjustable coilover suspension.
