Default Chevy Corvette gets Valet Mode with Performance Data Recorder

Official Press:

Corvette Valet Mode: A Baby Monitor For Your Baby
Handing over the keys just got easier

DETRIOT, Monday, Aug. 18, 2014 – Owners of 2015 Chevrolet Corvettes will feel better about handing over the keys to their car, thanks to the new Valet Mode with Performance Data Recorder.

The industry-exclusive system allows drivers to lock the interior storage, disable the infotainment system and record video, audio and vehicle data when the Valet Mode is active.

"Think of it as a baby monitor for your car," said Harlan Charles, Corvette product manager. "Anyone who has felt apprehension about handing over their keys will appreciate the peace of mind of knowing exactly what happened while their baby was out of sight."

Introduced in 2014, the Corvette Valet Mode is turned on through the settings menu and activated by entering a unique four-digit code. A confirmation entry of the code simultaneously locks the storage bin behind the center stack display, the glove box and disables the radio and infotainment system.

With the introduction of the industry-first Performance Data Recorder for 2015, Corvette drivers can also record HD video, in-car audio, and vehicle data – including speed, engine RPM, gear position and g-force – when Valet Mode is active.

The video can be viewed instantly on the Corvette's eight-inch color touchscreen when the car is parked, or downloaded to a computer.

"Performance Data Recorder was initially designed as a tool for track days, allowing drivers to record their laps and improve their driving skills," said Charles. "We soon realized the system could have many more applications, such as recording a scenic drive up Highway 101, or recording when the Valet Mode is activated."

The Performance Data Recorder – or PDR – system was developed with Cosworth, the British motorsports-engineering company that supplies the Corvette Racing team's data acquisition and telemetry electronics systems.

The system includes three major components. First is a 720p, high-definition camera mounted within the windshield header trim, which records the driver's point-of-view through the window. Audio is recorded via a dedicated microphone in the cabin.

Second is a self-contained telemetry recorder. The system utilizes a dedicated GPS receiver and is hardwired into the Stingray's Controller Area Network to access vehicle information.

Finally, the system features a dedicated SD-card slot in the glove box for recording and transferring video and vehicle data. An 8-gigabyte card can record approximately 200 minutes of driving time.

The PDR system can record video with three data overlay options including Track Mode, Sport Mode, Touring Mode and Performance Mode. Also included with the system is the "Cosworth Toolbox" software, which combines Cosworth's professional-level motorsport data analysis with an easy-to-use graphic interface for users who want a more in-depth understanding of their performance.

Valet Mode with the Performance Data Recorder will be available on all 2015 Corvette models.

Default 2015 C2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 order guide spills all the details

Click here to view order guide

Want to see how you'd configure your new Corvette Z06? No, we're afraid that model has yet to be included in Chevy's online configuration tool, but it has been added to the order guide. So now Corvette buyers will have the choice between the base Stingray coupe, the Z51 coupe, the Stingray convertible, Z51 convertible, Z06 coupe or Z06 convertible. That's six variants in all, giving those in the market for the latest American sports car a wealth of choices.

Of course, those three versions and two body-styles are only the starting point to which you can add a wealth of options, from the Performance Data Recorder to the full Z07 performance package with carbon-ceramic brakes and suspension upgrades. No matter which way you spec it, you're still getting the most powerful vehicle General Motors has ever made, with 650 horsepower and just as much torque from a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that might as well be called the ZR1 already. Check out the order guide broken down page by page in the gallery below.

My 2014 Z51 is more car than any of the Porsche's (at any price) I sold back in the 70's and 80's from features and styling to handling and performance. 460 HP with that kind of handling is more car than 99.5% of car owners will ever sit in much less own and drive whenever the itch needs scratching. I can't deny the power that yellow car has, but my Torch Red one has plenty too. I'll keep her . I won't be tracking for competition so nothing lost.

Default 2015 Chevy Corvette 8-Speed Improves MPG, Speed

Adding more gears is one way automakers are combating the fuel economy war, and Chevrolet is making strides with the new Corvette.

Starting in the 2015 model year, all automatic-transmission Corvettes are fitted with an eight-speed unit that has pushed the highway fuel economy up by 1 mpg to sit at 29. That is an improvement of 3.5 percent over the outgoing six speed. For 2016 models, Chevy is assuring that the highway fuel economy will improve to at least 30 mpg.

It isn’t just fuel economy that’s better either, with the car’s 0 to 60 mph speed slightly improving to 3.7 seconds.

The new transmission is actually eight pounds lighter than the outgoing model, and is produced in house at GM’s Toledo, Ohio plant. Later this year, the eight-speed will also begin going into the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra equipped with a 6.2-liter V8.

Default Leaked order guide reveals 2015 Corvette Z06 is heavier than predecessor

The order guide for the 2015 Corvette Z06 has surfaced on the net a little ahead of schedule. There isn't much additional information gained from it but it reveals an intriguing bit of data about the weight.

The curb weight for the new generation comes in at 3,524 lbs (1598kg) for the Coupe, and 3,582 lbs (1625kg) for the convertible. This represents a respective weight gain of 349 lbs (158kg) and 249 lbs (113kg).

Considering most manufacturers focustheir development on weight loss and added efficiency, it is clear the Corvette has gone for raw power. The 6.2-liter LT4 supercharged V8 engine that is capable of 650 hp (485kW) and 650 lb-ft (898Nm) of torque is testament to this fact.

The order guide additionally reveals extensive details of the standard and optional equipment available. Check it out here.

2015 Corvette Z06 to be Heaviest in ‘Vette History

It might be a stunning machine, but the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 won’t be a lightweight.

According to a leaked ordering guide, the upcoming 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will be the heaviest Corvette in the sports car’s storied history with the coupe model tipping the scales at 3,524 lbs. The convertible will weigh in at 3,582 lbs. To put things into perspective, the previous-generation Corvette Z06 had a curb weight of 3,175 lbs while the ZR1 weighed 3,333 lbs. The heaviest Corvette model offered last year was the 427 Convertible that weight 3,355 lbs.

That means the Z06 and all its go-fast technology puts on an extra 226 lbs compared to the standard Stingray model and is likely attributed to the Eaton supercharger, extra aerodynamic accessories, Magnetic Selective Ride Control and Performance Traction Management, which are both standard on the Z06.
