Default 2015 Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake spied on the Ring [video]

Goes on sale early next year

The 2015 Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake has been spied undergoing testing on the Nürburgring, ahead of its launch early next year.

Designed to a more affordable alternative to C-Class Estate, the CLA Shooting Brake has a familiar design but adopts a stylish rear end that borrows cues from the CLS Shooting Brake. The car's styling will likely limit its practicality but at least there are larger rear doors to improve access to rear seat.

Engine options will likely carryover from the standard model so choices could include:

A 1.5-liter diesel with 109 PS (80 kW)
A 1.8-liter diesel with 136 PS (100 kW)
A 2.1-liter diesel with 170 PS (125 kW)
A 1.6-liter petrol with outputs of 122 PS (90 kW) and 156 PS (115 kW)
A 2.0-liter petrol with 211 PS (155 kW)

Our spies have also caught an AMG variant which will use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 360 PS (265 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. This should enable the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than five seconds.

Default Prices For Entry-Level Mercedes-Benz CLA Set To Increase By Up To 5% For 2015

If you're considering a CLA-Class, you should know the least expensive Mercedes-Benz just got more expensive.

The luxury automaker made big news—and big sales—with an ad campaign trumpeting the sub-$30,000 base price of the all-new entry-level sedan. We don't expect the same level of publicity for significant price increases in 2015.

The base MSRP for a front-wheel drive CLA250 jumps from $29,900 to $31,500, an increase of $1,600 or 5.4%. The all-wheel drive 4MATIC goes from $31,900 to $33,500, the equivalent of $1,600 or 5.0%. The top-tier CLA45 AMG creeps up $1,050 or 2.2%, from $47,450 to $48,500. (All prices exclude a $925 destination charge.)

The CLA took a new role in 2014 as the entry-level model in Mercedes-Benz's lineup. Previously, the least expensive sedan was the C250 at $35,800. A redesign for 2015 moved the most affordable C-Class sedan up 7.3% to $38,400 with the C300. However, unlike the C-Class, design and standard equipment for the CLA250 are unchanged for 2015.

According to CarsDirect analysts, high demand and limited supplies make deep discounting rare. Mercedes-Benz has promised to increase production for the U.S. market, and this should give buyers more negotiating power, but we don't expect bargain pricing until inventory finally catches up with demand.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake is around €600 ($705) more expensive than the four-door coupe - when similar versions equipped with the same engines are compared. The range-topping CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake with 360PS (355hp) will set you back €57,269.

The CLA Shooting Brake is available with two equipment lines, Urban and AMG Line. The Urban trim level is priced from €1,142 and includes a diamond radiator grille with high-gloss black pins, 18-inch 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels and the two-pipe exhaust system with chrome-plated tailpipe trim. Inside, it gets sports seats with contrasting topstitching, a multifunction leather steering wheel with perforated grip area and a wave-look trim element.

The AMG Line is available from €2,558 (standard the for CLA 250 Sport) and brings a more dynamic exterior with AMG body styling, lowered sports suspension, 18-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels and a two-pipe exhaust system with chrome-plated tailpipe trim. This is a lot better looking than the standard CLA, IMO.

I love shooting brakes. Unfortunately Lexus would never attempt this (likely because it would not produce any volume). I'm still hoping for another SportCross though even if it is a pipe dream.

My main complaint with the CLA was the cheap looking doors panels if you didn't get the leather package. Glad MB fixed this in 2015. They actually did a number of improvements for a car only in its second year. Changed the radio/dash buttons and also upgraded the nav software to reflect the new COMAND

And with those upgrades, so much for that $29,XXX touting. Base price via mbusa.com is now $31,500.

I don't blame them though. Remember when the CT launched, it too was touted to be $29,XXX.

Give me upgraded materials any day

True, I Too think its worth it. And I am not scared about MB's MSRP. I know we were all freaked out by the 40K starting price of the C class but they were giving those away during the winter event 15+% off

The Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake completes the CLA range and continues the German brand's assault on the small car segment. We've driven it overseas at the international launch and we're looking forward to testing it on local roads later in the year.

Default Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake OrangeArt Edition massive gallery released

Click here to view more photos

Costs €65,539

Following last year’s preview, Mercedes-Benz has released full details and an extensive gallery with the CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake OrangeArt Edition.

It's a long name for Daimler’s smallest Shooting Brake in fully fledged AMG specification which will set you back €65,539. As the name implies, the special edition CLA SB gets orange accents noticeable on the front grille, bi-xenon headlights side mirrors, rear diffuser and on the multi-spoke matte black wheels. Inside the cabin it boasts leather/DINAMICA microfiber sport seats, ARTICO-wrapped dashboard, orange contrast stitching along with "AMG OrangeArt EDITION" badging.

There aren't any mechanical changes so this CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake continues to pack a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine developing 360 HP (265 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm). Power is channeled to a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system through a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT gearbox which enables the model run the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 4.7 seconds on its way to an electronically-capped top speed of 155 mph (150 km/h).
