Entry-level Jaguar X-Type successor due in 2015, crossover a year later

Jaguar's future product plans keep on slipping, slipping, slipping onto the internet, and the latest on it's entry-level luxury challenger is a 2015 due date. According to Automobile magazine, "most significant game-changer from Coventry" will be arriving on the same PLA platform that supports the Jaguar XJ and 2013 Range Rover. Kacher says the small sedan has already got the green light as codename X760, and will bow first as a four-door sedan, then as a crossover a year later.

This puts a date to a recent Autocar report that a small sedan and crossover were in the works. We've been getting reports of and concepts for a successor to the X-Type ever since Tata bought Jaguar – like the Bertone B99 concept last year, and this enthusiast concept more recently – since everyone knows it's what has to happen for "a new Jaguar" to succeed. We're looking forward to seeing what the English maker comes up with; if it remains true to form, it could be one of the few luxury competitors whose distinct model each look, well, truly distinct.

Love seeing the expansion of the Jag line-up! They also have my love now because of their shared passion for sticks (wait that came out wrong )

Just looking forward to a 3-Series competitor with the new supercharged V6. Leave the CUV for Land Rover

Hopefully they now learned their lesson from the failure that was the X-type........when designing a proper C-segment premium vehicle.

I'd assume so, because now they don't have a parent company forcing them to share a platform share with a non-luxury model. Ford actually did a lot of favors for Jag, but the X-type was not one of them.

Agreed. Ford kept Jag afloat. The X-Type shared many Mondeo components, and not enough attributes to make it anything special

The S-Type shared more with Fords than the X-type did, but I agree, the X was a joke.

I can thank Ford for my X350... A 2006 XJ8 which at 83k miles has been just about faultless. I'm replacing my GS350 with another Jaguar... I bought the GS becaused I figured that while its nowhere as nice to drive or pretty as the XJ it would at least be reliable and worry free. Turns out the opposite has been the case!

Glad to hear your XJ8 has had no gremlins. Always loved the classic XJ body
