^ had it started like this (spindle exterior and the interior is more refined than when initially released) and agreed with a lower MSRP I do think they would have sold more that volume would make it more viable here. Add in the fact that despite it's luxury/econo image you could load the HS up with tech you can't get on some higher end Lexus's. Offering a Plug-In EV version could also make it more desirable

I wonder if and when Japan gets a 2nd gen HS; if Toyota would release it in the US?

sure... CTh Sedan?

Could happen... and will likely be well designed from the start... or it could be EU/Asia only... who knows.

With lessons from the first gen and knowing how the latest Lexus vehicles are, I'm sure the 2nd gen would be a great vehicle and versatile too if they added a PHEV variant. I don't know if they'd use the HS moniker here again though. As spwolf mentions rumor has it a CT sedan could come next generation so anything is possible.

Secretly I've wanted the IS, GS and LS to be the core sedan line-up and I wouldn't mind the HSh back as a hybrid sedan and making the ES electric. ESe

Completely the case. The molded gap between the hood and grille on the ES is bloated and ungainly. The above pic is a clean look for a similar front.

As far as the HS, it was simply overpriced for it's size and power output. The CT's specs and pricepoint make far more sense. However, there's no reason a similarly priced HS would work just as well as the CT. In fact, I think it would work even better, with the U.S.'s liking of sedans over hatches. If you are going to do a hatch, it has to be a sporty hot hatch like the VW Gulf/GTI. Lexus skipped over that important aspect.

The CR-V is the wife's vehicle and was her choice.
I like it because it serves a purpose when I need cargo room like it just did recently when buying some bags of top soil, mulch, fertilizer etc.
Also used other times for it's cargo room.
Good in snow for her in winter.

Oh and I think it looks ok in white pearl exterior and black interior in the EX-L w/Nav model.
Yes better than the RAV4 to us.Rides and handles better too.

The first HS look was ugly and expensive.
This new design is just a more modern ugly and would be close or at to the ES300h cost.
The purple stitching and very light wood doesn't work for me either.

Like most Honda's very competent sure, and dependable so a safe choice. Never been a fan of the road noise or seats though.

So maybe a NX in her future?

2009-2010 was kind of a lazy year for Lexus interior wise. The HS shares a lot of design cues with the RX, from the lifeless interior door panels, to a "weird' looking dash. Also the lower dash plastics are super cheap looking (the cup holder areas). However, the RX was able to survive based on past merits and value proposition. It also had a good looking exterior. The HS sadly did not have the same fate. Spindle grill on the HS is a huge improvement but I wouldn't have them bring it back. It makes no sense with the CT and ES hybrid.

Noise is less in this generation than the '11 we had.
Never had an issue with the seats though some people do.
H, we're actually thinking about an NX but at this point I'm not not a fan.
However that can change when seeing one up close.

Default New Lexus HS 250 Special Edition Now Available in Japan

The Japan-only Lexus HS 250h will receive its second special edition of the year with this new Harmonious Leather Interior in Spindle Red:

Any exterior color can be chosen (including Atomic Silver), and an exclusive Starlight Black option is available with the package. The HS 250h Harmonious Leather Interior II will launch in November and retail for 4.63 million yen.

North American sales of the HS 250h were discontinued in 2012. The model is now only available in Japan.

(The red leather and Ash wood trim are a contrasting combination, but its boldness reminds me of the L-Select LS customization program that’s also only available in Japan.)
